Reviews depict Chez Claudette as a Montreal institution for authentic, generously portioned poutine at affordable prices, with a cozy retro diner vibe and friendly, efficient service that many visitors find welcoming. The menu is varied and features other Quebec staples like hot dogs and grilled cheese, and the poutines are often praised for hearty portions, squeaky cheese curds, and a flavorful gravy, with several readers calling it among the best poutine in the city. While most feedback is positive and highlights good value and consistency, some comments point to occasional service slowdowns, inconsistent experiences, and a few days when certain items did not hit the mark, including issues with fries or sauce. Overall, the place is described as a reliable, bustling spot where guests can enjoy generous portions, a classic ambiance, and a strong sense of authenticity that keeps people returning.
I've eaten at this restaurant since 2010. They have great poutines & breakfasts, this is usually what I go there for. In recent years they can get really busy during brunch hours, especially weekends in summer.
not my favourite poutine i've had here but not bad. i personally like my fries on the crispier side & found these to be incredibly soft, & the gravy itself wasn't as flavourful as i heard it'd be. maybe we just came on an off day? but the cheese curds were amazing though & quite squeaky! the waitress was lovely & we were able to get a table for 6 people pretty fast on a weekday too. overall probably wouldnt come back specifically for the poutine, but perhaps for the other items!

The poutine was good the fries were crispy the cheese curds were fresh just felt like the sauce was bland not a lot of flavor from that side but overall decent

I had a fantastic experience here; not only was my poutine one of the most flavourful of the 4 I've had in the past 48hrs, it was the service that took this over the top. From the moment we walked in to the time we left, we were greeted & treated as genuine guests. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat. It's places like this that deserve all the money & attention. Save your time & money from those instagram facades & just come here & enjoy some good quality food
I went here after reading lots of back & forth on Reddit about where the best poutine can be found in Montreal. This was the only place I tried, but it was so good!
If you are here for the poutine & haven't tried it many times, I strongly suggest branching out & trying something non-traditional. We ordered the traditional poutine & the Marilyn & thought the Marilyn was much better (though both were good).
This is like the French Canadian Waffle House - I mean that entirely complimentary. Check it out!
