The design here is one of the best parts. The staff are also great. Looking around, the place seems like a spot for older crowds. Or where you take your parents if in town. Or for a fancy cocktail date, maybe. I came for just a coffee & they didn't have plant based milks for a latte. Luckily they had decaf.
Serving staff was excellent. Food was good. Owner was rude & arrogant even though we were 15 people & my family had a relationship with him that goes back a long way.
Chez Alexandre is a Montreal institution...I was with a group of about 15 people, & the attention, service, & food was phenomenal...the wine was really great as well.
Nice place for a drink, but I'd skip the food. Far too expensive for what you get, we were disappointed. Our waiter was not very attentive to the table. Thzt said, the place has a nice atmosphere.
The burger we had was fine but not remarkable. This is a typical average French brasserie like you can also find in Paris. Felt a bit like everyone was runining on automatic, lacking passion.
It's an old restaurant, so the dishes & cutlery are a bit old. The server was friendly, & the food was good in taste & quantity for the price. However, the tables & other equipment were very old, so I wouldn't go there if I were inviting business guests. It's just good for a casual meal with friends.

That pasta w lobster i am attaching the photo of was beyond perfect ! 💯 yes! It is as yummy as it seems ! Also the service & the atmosphere was very nice ! If you are around downtown Montreal its definitely a must-see.
Amazing experience, possibly the best food I had in Montreal, as well as the best service! Their escargo is better than the ones I had in France!! Also recommend the corn soup & lobster spagetti! 5 stars!
Had a very nice lunch there on Thursday. Was greeted by the owner. He was very nice & explained the menu & the specials. I ordered the Lobster Mayonnaise, it was not bad, it was something I never had before so I cannot compare it to anything else. The fries were really good. I would go back next time when in Montreal. Thanks!

Starving but not willing to pay $$$$, we didn't eat at the Cafe next door because it was pricey as sin to then just to sit at Alexandre & pay ridiculous for a boring roast beef sandwich & fries. Also ordered steak frites, & a bland les pates au homard (lobster w/ pasta). Out of the 3, only the steak was worth it; the hostess ended up ALSO being the waitress, who never provided her name & though she was sweet, she forgot to give us our'leftovers' & we had to remind her upon leaving. We sat al fresco & for a fam of 4 on 2 small round tables & chairs that couldn't move on the carpeted area.
