Notre soiree fut parfaite !
Just found this gem. Was looking for a place to smoke my cigars since Stogies was temporarily closed on that night. They have a nice cozy cigar lounge upstairs. Well ventilated. My next visit will be, supper & then finish the night with a couple of cigars & a few glasses of scotch.
I was at the cigar lounge , super classy & nice elegant environment, the place is cozy & clean , tv available & confortable chairs , small but good selection of Cuban cigars . Not bad price , feels good to have a place like this downtown . I didn't try the food , just the cigar lounge but I'll definitely be back for the food also :) thanks for a great start of my day
I went to Chez Alexandre for dinner & also revisited the hidden cigar lounge on the second floor, one of Montreal's best kept secrets if you're into cigars. It's been a while since I'd been, & while the space is a bit aged, it has a lot of character & history. You can bring your own cigar, & it's usually quiet during the week, which makes it a great spot to unwind. I highly recommend ordering an Americano with a shot of Baileys on the side, plus two sugar cubes. It's a simple pleasure that fits the vibe perfectly.
The food downstairs was average, but the service was good. & don't miss the photo wall on the main floor. It's packed with Montreal history & old-school charm. Fun fact for those who remember, the club next door used to be the iconic Funky Town. Also worth mentioning, this is one of the few places I know that has Peroni on tap.
If you're driving, ask about the free parking deal when you make your reservation. They offer parking in a nearby building if you're dining in. Definitely a unique spot in Montreal worth checking out.
It was quite hot outside so we chose to sit inside. We did smell a bit of cigar smoke when we walked in. The restaurant does have a French brasserie & bistro feel. We ordered beef cheek with vegetables & lobster pasta. The beef cheek was flavorful & tender. Lobster pasta was tasty. Overall, I enjoyed the food even though it was a bit pricey.

I recently visited Chez Alexandre & had a great experience overall. The waitress & the service were amazing. However, my evening took a negative turn when the manager, who was working that Thursday night, was extremely rude & dismissive. He ignored my requests & even stated that he didn't have time to assist me, when the place is not even packed. Considering Im there once a week,, the least he could do was listen to my simple request for a lighter for the cigar I bought at the restaurant. While everything else was exceptional, this specific manager's behavior was unacceptable & should be addressed.
It's been 25 years since the last visit to this place. My wife & I went after the game. Atmosphere is nice, calm & peaceful. Decor is the old traditional Montreal feel (we enjoy it). If you do not like cigar smoke or have breathing issues... you may have to reassess, as they have a cigar bar upstairs. We have low expectations & gauge our experiences objectively, with the hopes this will improve the operations & thus improve the experience of future customers. I was going to order wings, but changed my mind. The wings are precoated without option. Normally a naked wing with option of sauce on side or tossed. We ordered 6 oysters, came on frozen plate ice👍 & I asked for lemon & hot sauce, which the grabbed🙏. Most disappointing was the charcuterie board. Do not order! $27.00 for what you see here. A double rum cost $28.22 Hendricks $16.00 We feel that the cost, didn't meet the experience. We unfortunately won't be back the next time we visit. Much better experiences for the value around Montreal.
We've been here twice: 2007 & 2023, & have had an amazing experience both times. The risotto, duck confit, & steak frites are exceptional, & service was lovely. We also enjoyed the cigar lounge after dinner. If you're looking for an authentic French dining experience, this is it!
Lovely & comprehensive experience, delivered with charm & professionalism; cocktails, wine, meal & cigars upstairs (we came for the cigars). Arrived early & got brilliant attention. Beef tartare & fish were excellent. Prices are reasonable. & an extraordinary surprise Canadian history immersion on the wall.
