CHAI-YO is widely celebrated as a phenomenal vegan destination in Montreal, consistently impressing guests with its authentic, flavorful, and creatively prepared Thai cuisine. Many diners highlight the crispy seitan duck, peanut dumplings, and flavorful curries as standout dishes that satisfy both vegans and non-vegans alike. Beyond the exceptional food, the restaurant is frequently praised for its welcoming and attentive service, reasonable pricing, and relaxing, intimate atmosphere. Whether visiting for a quick lunch combo or a complete dining experience, visitors often express their delight at the balanced, fresh ingredients and the overall culinary care evident in every dish, making it a highly recommended must-visit spot.
Absolutely phenomenal experience here- me & my partner were so blown away. Staff was highly attentive & the food was excellent- the entire meal was delicious but the dumplings (& that peanut sauce especially) were out of this world. By far my favourite meal in Montreal!
Just wow. I love Thai food & this spot was one of the best I've ever had. I got the crispy Brussel sprouts & panang curry. The sauces on both were deeply flavorful & the crispy'duck' (seitan) was so satisfying. I'll be thinking about this meal for a long time.
The courtyard is super cute, but the inside doesn't have AC, so be prepared if it's a hot day.
Our server was kind, prompt, & very helpful when we were choosing our dishes.
This is a must try spot in Montreal if you are vegan. Actually, it's a must try spot in general!
So yummy I went twice! I got the combo #4 lunch special which came with delicious peanut dumplings, Thai iced tea & the pepper duck sandwich. The flavors felt so fresh & the food was filling. Emily was also very attentive & helpful!
My second visit, I ordered the papaya salad & the ped panang duck curry. The papaya salad was refreshing, spicy & the crispy chicken on top was delicious dipped in the vinegar sauce.
The Panang was equally delicious, well balanced flavors & textures from the duck. As a Thai food aficionado, I was impressed! (Don't forget to ask for the chili sauce quartet! :D )
The food is absolutely amazing! The first time my husband & I went there, it became our new favorite restaurant & it has been ever since.
Amazing authentic Thai food, all vegan.
The crispy vegan duck panang (red curry) is soooo good! The dumplings are amazing as well. The peanut sauce they serve it with is the best we ever had. The spring rolls are delicious as well. These are our favorite dishes that we always order.
Highly recommend this restaurant!
Fantastic food, good prices, friendly staff. I had dumplings with peanut sauce as an entree & for main dish I had the panang curry with crispy seitan & they were both delicious. My only negative comment concerns the pandan cake I had for dessert, which was a bit dry & the pandan taste was very faint.
The reviews did not lie! We were so excited to try Chai Yo, & our expectations were blown out of the water. The peanut sauce on the dumplings was one-of-a-kind & their vegan duck was magical. The place itself was beautiful-one of the walls was covered in childrens' illustrations & it brought out the family feel in a special way. Our server was also very kind & attentive. Looking forward to coming back (& also trying ChuChai)!
INSANEEEE Thai Food. Every dish was packed with flavor & I was blown away by the texture & flavor of the duck. The peanut sauce in the dumplings was so good, we were scraping the sides to finish it. Would HIGHLY recommend. Dare I say, the best Thai Food I've ever had (aside from Thailand).
It's nice to see thai restaurants that offer authentic food. We started the meal with fried imperial rolls & peanut butter dumplings which were both so delicious. We shared two mains; Ped yang Panang (vegan duck seitan Curry) & Kao Man Gou (steamed tofu with spicy sauce & ginger rice). Both were good but I love my curries so the sietan curry had me. We also got a Kao man gai soup which was a little bland but other than that great food experience.
My partner & I have been ordering from this place many times already, & everything we've both tasted from Chai-Yo has been absolutely delicious.
The dishes are cooked to perfection, they're flavor bombs, with a great balance of textures as well, plus there are some truly spicy options on the menu! I love the heat in these dishes but it can be a bit much if you're not usually into spicy foods.
I especially like the flavours of Tao-hu Sam Rod (crispy tofu in three-flavoured tamarind sauce), Kao Kra Pao (stir-fried TVP with basil & chili) & Khiao Wan Tao-hu (green curry with eggplants), though everything else I've tried so far was equally amazing.
The portions are generous, the dishes always taste very fresh, & everything is vegan to boot.
Highly recommended :)
The food was amazing! We had a noodle soup with vegan crispy duck, a banh mi & the dumplings with peanut sauce. The soup was huge & so tasty! The sandwich with the vegan pate & ham was also soooo delicious! The staff was so friendly & attentive; very nice place!
