Reviewers describe Chai Yo as a cozy, welcoming vegan Thai spot with bold, flavorful dishes built around vegan duck, seitan and dumplings, including standout items like vegan duck soup, Pad See Ew, Panang and green curries, and fresh sides such as papaya salad; desserts and drinks like Thai iced tea are well received. The service is repeatedly praised for being friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is noted as inviting and intimate. Many reviewers view value as good, with lunch deals and generous portions for some items, though a few comment that portions can feel small for the price and a couple mention having had better experiences elsewhere; overall the place is seen as a must visit with plans to return.
unbelievably good vegan food. I got the panang duck & the nam kao & both were phenomenal. located right on a verdant park, it's got outdoor seating for beautiful days. This was the most flavorful meal I've had in ages. You can taste the fresh ingredients (makrut lime leaves, etc). If you're a vegan visiting montreal, don't miss this spot!

I have tried many vegan places in Montreal but none have compared to Chai-Yo. I had a beautiful lunch today it was flavourful, warm, perfectly seasoned & so original! Lunch time atmosphere was quiet but the playlist was on point! Will definitely be coming back here to enjoy dinner service soon. Thanks so much, keep doing what you are doing!!! Pictured is our very empty plates :)
Fantastic food, good prices, friendly staff. I had dumplings with peanut sauce as an entree & for main dish I had the panang curry with crispy seitan & they were both delicious. My only negative comment concerns the pandan cake I had for dessert, which was a bit dry & the pandan taste was very faint.
This is hands down my favorite restaurant in town-probably the most authentic vegetarian Thai food I've found. Every dish strikes that perfect balance of bold yet fresh flavours-vibrant, memorable, & absolutely delicious. The papaya salad, Nam Kao, Guay-Teow Ped, & Kao Kra Pao are standouts & truly exceptional.
My only small note: the Nam Kao could use a bit more lettuce for wrapping, or slightly larger outer romaine leaves. Sometimes it's served with the inner romaine heart leaves, which don't work as well.
Still dreaming about the vegan duck & curry. Sooooo amazing. Pad see ew for lunch was a great deal for the price & also super yummy. Great service!! Thai ice tea very good too.
