Reviewers describe Chai Yo as a cozy, welcoming vegan Thai spot with bold, flavorful dishes built around vegan duck, seitan and dumplings, including standout items like vegan duck soup, Pad See Ew, Panang and green curries, and fresh sides such as papaya salad; desserts and drinks like Thai iced tea are well received. The service is repeatedly praised for being friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is noted as inviting and intimate. Many reviewers view value as good, with lunch deals and generous portions for some items, though a few comment that portions can feel small for the price and a couple mention having had better experiences elsewhere; overall the place is seen as a must visit with plans to return.
Fantastic food, good prices, friendly staff. I had dumplings with peanut sauce as an entree & for main dish I had the panang curry with crispy seitan & they were both delicious. My only negative comment concerns the pandan cake I had for dessert, which was a bit dry & the pandan taste was very faint.
Still dreaming about the vegan duck & curry. Sooooo amazing. Pad see ew for lunch was a great deal for the price & also super yummy. Great service!! Thai ice tea very good too.

Chez Chai-yo, tout est bon, tout est beau. Du café thai & jus d'hybicus pour boire. Delicieux Canard vegan croustillant. Le curry vert est super ! & les gâteaux de la soeur : over the top ! 5 étoiles! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I was very impressed with the food. Amazing vegan Thai restaurant. Everything was excellent. I really don't like the name'crispy duck' but don't let that animal name turn you off - it's basically crispy vegan seitan & I highly recommend you order anything with it. We had the soup with crispy duck & the red curry with crispy duck & they were amazing! The peanut butter dumplings were another favorite. They have the best vegan Thai iced tea! Most Thai iced teas are cloyingly sweet but this had the perfect level of sweetness- not very sweet & exactly how I like it. Next time we are in Montreal, we will definitely be coming back here. They also own another vegan Thai restaurant called chu chai which I haven't tried yet.
It's nice to see thai restaurants that offer authentic food. We started the meal with fried imperial rolls & peanut butter dumplings which were both so delicious. We shared two mains; Ped yang Panang (vegan duck seitan Curry) & Kao Man Gou (steamed tofu with spicy sauce & ginger rice). Both were good but I love my curries so the sietan curry had me. We also got a Kao man gai soup which was a little bland but other than that great food experience.
My partner & I have been ordering from this place many times already, & everything we've both tasted from Chai-Yo has been absolutely delicious.
The dishes are cooked to perfection, they're flavor bombs, with a great balance of textures as well, plus there are some truly spicy options on the menu! I love the heat in these dishes but it can be a bit much if you're not usually into spicy foods.
I especially like the flavours of Tao-hu Sam Rod (crispy tofu in three-flavoured tamarind sauce), Kao Kra Pao (stir-fried TVP with basil & chili) & Khiao Wan Tao-hu (green curry with eggplants), though everything else I've tried so far was equally amazing.
The portions are generous, the dishes always taste very fresh, & everything is vegan to boot.
Highly recommended :)
What a sweet find! We ate here on Boxing Day for dinner. The atmosphere was cozy & calm. We had Kiao Satay dumplings to start - peanutty & a little kick of spice. Our mains were Green Curry with tofu & eggplant (very fragrant & fresh!) Ped Yang Panang with rice & crispy duck (little spicy with rich flavour). Would eat there everyday if we could while visiting Montreal!

My favourites were both the green curry & the red curry with steam rice but everything here is delicious! The owner is very friendly & accommodating. One of the best vegan restaurants in Montreal!
Everything on this menu is phenomenal. I've tried most of the menu & there are literally no bad dishes. Special shout-out to the red-curry noodles, crispy rice, & mushroom wings. So happy to have another vegan Thai spot in Montreal (especially one where I can proudly take non-vegans & they're equally impressed).
Mango sticky rice is outstanding & reminded me of my trip in Thailand. I would come back just for that. With that said, the rest of the food was also very good. The brussel sprouts were very nice, although a little too salty. The green curry & vegan duck penang were good too. The waitress was very attentive & helpful! Small terasse to eat outside was a bonus.
I loved the iced tea! I ordered the red curry (NOM JEEN NAM YA), as well as the green curry (NOM JEEN KHIAO WAN TAO-HU). Both were delicious (& spicy 😋): I still can't decide which one I prefer. You'd have to try them yourself ;) Highly recommended.
Delicious food & great staff! We had the vegan duck sandwich, the spring rolls, the green curry noodles, the pad see ew, the pad Thai & the vegan duck noodle soup.
