I ate at Caifan many years ago, & I seem to recall it was a small joint with a few tables & a very authentic menu. The tacos were so delicious. So, I thought maybe they renovated & was excited to give it another try. Based on what I experienced, I'm not sure they are affiliated at all. Let's start with the good: 1) the drinks were delicious. 2) the servers were very kind & attentive 3) our jalapeno & pork belly appetizers were yummy. The not-so-good: 1) For a place that specializes in tacos, & considering there are a small number on the menu, I expected them to have more complexity & flavour. Were it just that, I would probably have given four stars. But all of our tacos were really salty! Everyone in our dinner party said the same thing.Voir plus

I've been to Caifan twice now & will definitely be returning. No question that these are the best tacos I've personally ever had in Montreal. Everything is made fresh & the meat in the tacos is so juicy. If you get anything here, you must try to Arrachera steak tacos - they will blow your mind. Service is great, dishes are a little pricy but everything is these days so I don't mind it as much when the quality of food is so great! Appetizer: - Torito de Chorizo: 10/10. A must try! Tacos: - Arrachera: 1000/10! If you taste any tacos here let it be these ones. The most juicy & flavourful tacos I've ever had. - Al Pastor: 10/10. Amazing, so well seasoned & authentic! Al Pastor tacos are my favourite ever & these were the best I've had. Quesadillas: - Gobernador: 7/10. Definitely more stewy than I thought it'd be but still really tasty. The chunks of shrimp were large & they did not skimp out on that. Desserts: - El Tropical: 7/10. Kind of like a key lime cannoli. It was tasty but I much preferred the below dessert on my second visit! - El Lokito: 9/10. Small but delicious & such unique flavours. I'm not a white chocolate fan but I loved everything about this.Voir plus
The taste of the food is OK, however the portions are not enough as well as the prices high. Missing authentic mexican experience. Service is super bad, very slow, we had to wait for the waiters to come more than 35min. I will not recommend this place.Voir plus

What a terrific experience! The vibe of this restaurant is so great, their bar is beautiful, the food is DELICIOUS & super authentic (they have so much more than just tacos on the menu - try some other typical Mexican dishes!) & the service -- wow! The team is all so friendly, & they are clearly being managed with lots of love & care. Portions could be a tinyyy bit bigger for the price, but won't clock them for it. Hope to see Caifan remain as a staple on St. Denis for many years to come!Voir plus
If you are looking for authentic Mexican cuisine look no further. Coming to Montreal from California , it has been a long difficult search for something even remotely close to the amazing Mexican cuisine. Caifan delivers! The bartender Johnny is knowledgeable & his cocktails take you to another place! The chef & Arturo the bar manager took it above & beyond with suggestions & telling us about brunch that is designed by an all female staff (love that!) please give this place a try. The service was exceptional; the staff was friendly, attentive, & knowledgeable about the menu, making excellent recommendations. As for the food, the quality was outstanding. Each dish showcased fresh ingredients & bold flavors, staying true to authentic Mexican cuisine. From classic tacos to sizzling fajitas, every bite was a burst of deliciousness. The variety of cocktails was impressive. The bar offered an extensive selection of margaritas, each uniquely crafted & bursting with flavors. I'm Latino to begin with. Food wasn't that bad but too expansive for the portions. I've been to cheaper, more tasty, & bigger portions per order places in Montreal. Now, where they really lost me was on the service!! It was horrible!! I asked for extra limes more than once to different waiters & never got it. The waiter wasn't properly informed about their own menu. There's an option where you can add extra tacos for an extra fee. We asked for it & she said it was too late. &!!!!! They had no agua de horchata like!!!! The place ain't authentic at all. Almost forget, they charge you for a tiny sauce which in any other Mexican restaurant is free & the waitress said it was included!!!!!! I'll go make my own tacos !Voir plus

A nice quiet place that's great to have some food. The food was really nice, very authentic. Generally we had a great experience.
The markup on wine is a bit much (3x + ). It would be nice to have some wines in the 30-40 region.
