Review Summary

Café de'Mercanti is described as a warm, unpretentious neighborhood hub with a cozy living-room vibe where the coffee, especially the espresso, is consistently praised as rich, smooth, and authentically Italian, and pastries like cannoli and pistachio croissants are highlighted as a treat. Reviewers frequently note friendly, efficient service and a welcoming atmosphere, often with ample seating and a casual terrace for outdoor chats, and a few reviews mention the original Star Trek playing on TV. Several comments place it among Montreal’s best coffee spots, with some naming it the top choice in NDG and Monkland Village, and the cafe is appreciated for opening early and inviting quick visits or longer stays. While crowds and noise can be a downside during peak times, most feel the quality and atmosphere justify the bustle, and prices are seen as fair for a personalized experience. Some critiques mention a lack of visible food or occasional air conditioning complaints that affect comfort, and a minority advise against going when in a hurry, yet overall the place is viewed as worth a visit for coffee purists and casual patrons alike. No wifi is noted by some reviewers, making it a spot to linger and chat rather than work.

Good coffee, stress-free vibes

Not Friendly & Bad Coffee:

The'tall, young' Barista did not know how to make a proper Flat White (must be made with proper ratio of espresso to microfoam) & instead mainly like a cup of'warm milk.' Perhaps because he was too focused on chatting it up with his colleague on the topic of hockey stats (no issues with that, so long as you can also focus & make a proper coffee for the customer).

The'older' fellow who took the order at the cash was rude & presented a classic'arrogant vibe.' No'good morning' or a even hello to the customer?

Quite rare to experience both arrogant & unhospitable attitude...& bad coffee but they nailesd it!

Looking for the perfect espresso in Montreal? Café de' Mercanti on Monkland Ave is a true gem that brings a slice of Italy right to NDG! 🇮🇹☕?

From the moment you walk in, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee hits you, & you know you're in for something special. Their espresso is hands-down one of the best in the city-rich, smooth, & authentically Italian, just like in Rome. Whether you're a coffee purist or love a creamy cappuccino, you'll find your new favorite here.

The vibe is cozy & welcoming, with friendly staff who make you feel like a regular even on your first visit. There's plenty of seating inside & a cute garden terrace for sunny days-perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment with a book. Don't miss their pastries & fresh cannoli, piped to order & absolutely delicious.

Café de' Mercanti is more than just a coffee shop-it's a neighborhood hub with a real community feel. If you're in NDG, do yourself a favor & stop by for a true Italian coffee experience. Highly recommended!

This place feels like my own little secret café-like I discovered it myself. But truth is, they've been around for 13 years.

Came in to meet a friend. First time here. The vibes? Chill, unpretentious, & welcoming. Feels like a cozy living room or your best friend's kitchen.

You're greeted by the rich aroma of fresh-ground coffee, the soft murmur of conversation, & a counter full of homemade cookies & pastries-some familiar, all tempting.

Prices are fair for a personalized experience. $3 for an Earl Grey tea with steamed milk, served in a glass if you're staying in. $4 for a smooth Americano.

Behind the espresso machine, a cool-looking gent with salt-&-pepper hair. At the counter, a friendly woman who welcomed me when she heard it was my first visit.

The decor? Purposefully unfinished-or maybe just always evolving. My wife asked if it was under construction. I said, Yes, like our busy lives-always in progress.

Long story short, it's now on my go-to list-for coffee, good company, or just sitting alone, writing Google reviews.

Café de' Mercanti is a true gem! The cozy ambiance, authentic Italian vibes, & perfect lattes make it a must-visit spot. Their cappuccinos & ricotta pistachio donuts are simply unforgettable. Whether you're here for coffee, pastries, or their delicious fluffy pizzas, everything is top-notch. Highly recommended for a delightful experience!

My favourite coffee place in NDG! Their coffee is smooth & flavourful & when combined with a nutty milk or regular milk it becomes even tastier (at least in my opinion). The staff is lovely & they are always nice & welcoming. They offer croissants, sandwiches & cookies. There's a nice indoor vibe. The outdoor sitting area is at a street corner so you get plenty of sun in the morning & have some shade in the afternoon
