Cafe Aunja is truly one of the most unique & charming cafes in Montreal. From the moment you walk in, you feel transported into a warm, cozy space filled with Persian culture, beautiful details, & a relaxing atmosphere.
The drinks are exceptional especially the famous Persian Fog, which is unlike anything else in the city. The food is fresh, flavorful, & thoughtfully prepared, the saffron cake & lentil soup are absolute must tries.
The service is warm & welcoming, with a well organized system where you order at the counter & everything is brought to your table. Even when it gets busy, the team remains attentive & kind, making sure guests feel comfortable throughout their visit.
Overall, Cafe Aunja is not just a cafe it's an experience. A little piece of Persian warmth in the heart of Montreal.

Very cozy vibes! Loved the Persian Fog (heads up: it's definitely sweet!) & the cake was good too. I want to go back to try their savoury food!

Adorable & classic artistic Persain decorations & warm cozy vibes, full of young people, super popular on weekends, especially today I just went there. Service could be delayed due to high demand of customers, but staffs are very responsive & friendly. They are extremely calm & cool, genteelly showed the generosity when a customer accidentally broke a glass lamp next to the window. You can see this is the warmth from Persain people. Coffee & rice cake were fantastic, the rice cake was combined with rose water inside, very fresh. Lentil soup was not to my likings because there's a herb inside I didn't like much but it's freshly & well-made. Price is fair. What amazes me the most was their collection of meaningful books along the bar seats. I really enjoyed the vibes here. Last but not least, pray for Iran & Iranian people, for love & peace you all deserve.

Cozy place but low standards for food & service. We were served cold food (eggs, omlette). The falafel sandwich was dry (imagine felafel in thick barbari bread with a bit of mayo!). Tea was impossible to drink in the jars they served them in & tasted like hot water (because they are not properly brewed & leaves float on top). You pay for food & tip before you get food & service so they don't care when you tell them about your experience. One of the orders came with soup, but we were told after that they didn't have any & they just added more potatoes to the dish which already came with potatoes. Overall disappointing experience. My advice if you end up there is: order coffee & cake & go somewhere else for food, it's not worth it. Don't compromise on your standards.

Edit: Thank you for the reply. My review was not about misunderstanding your concept. I know what quick service means, & I know what tisanes & barbari bread are. The issue was the quality.

Many people think they created something new, but there is a reason no one eats falafel in thick barbari bread. You use it because it is the only bread you have, which is convenience, not ingenuity, & it makes the sandwich dry.

If a tea or tisane tastes like hot water with honey, it is not well prepared.

Requiring customers to tip before receiving food or service creates responsibility. If the service does not meet expectations, the simple solution is to apologize & offer a refund, or remove the pre tip option & let people tip at the end.

Regarding the soup, the problem was that you knew it was not available at the time of ordering. I asked for the soup of the day, & you serve only one soup, so the shortage was already known but not mentioned.

You may win awards for decor or menu photos, but the food quality did not match that level.

My review reflects the experience we had.

I visited this cafe on two occasions since it is considered a very popular cafe & eatery within walking distance of my hostel.

When you walk in, the atmosphere is both cozy & romantic with its moody lighting & vintage furniture.

I've tried their highly coveted Persian London fog & saffron cake & falafel sandwich. While the falafel was made fresh, the flavors were unfortunately lacking & dry that I finished more than half my beverage to help wash it down before finishing my sandwich. The saffron cake was sweet & 1-dimensional & the London fog tasted nothing more than sweetened milk.

One of the best cafes in Montreal! The food & drinks here are always amazing - the coucou, cake with rose water, & Persian fog are some of the best things I've ever had. The vibes are immaculate, it's a super cosy spot. The only issue is that it's always full (fair enough), so I wouldn't recommend it for studying or working.

My first time in Montreal didn't go exactly as planned-my girlfriend (she's from Toronto) & I (from Vermont) were hoping to spend most of our time exploring Old Montreal, but the weather had other ideas. So we pivoted, looking for a cozy café where we could stay warm, write, & enjoy good food, & that's how we found Café Aunja.

From the moment we walked in, it felt like something special. Our visit ended up being so memorable & romantic that we now think of it as'our' place.

The seating is abundant, & while the lighting leans dim, it's adjustable, which makes it ideal whether you're writing, chatting, or just people-watching with a cup in hand. The staff are warm & extremely welcoming, & as someone who's been a barista for 15 years, I can honestly say the drinks & food were made with real care. You can taste the pride in every detail-from presentation to flavor.

Café Aunja has Iranian roots, & it was my first time trying items like the Kereshmeh & Nargoun smoothies, both of which were bright, fruity, & refreshing. I also had a slice of their blueberry cake, which looked beautiful & tasted even better. On the more traditional side, I tried their moka latte, while my girlfriend went for their floral & herb-packed teas, which were as pretty as they were flavorful.

We ended up coming back two more times during our trip to write & relax, & I actually started my next novel there. She left equally inspired. Even if we stay in a different part of the city next time, we've already agreed: we're coming back to Café Aunja.

It's not just a café-it's a creative sanctuary, a cozy escape from the weather, & now, a cherished part of our story.

The rosemary cake was one of the best cakes I've ever had. The pastry was stupendous & spectacular. The vibes & warmth & coziness of the establishment were fantastic. The coffee was decent & the food was good with a nice variety of flavours that complemented each other. Also love the fantastic reads scattered all throughout the restaurant. I'd be back in a heartbeat for coffee & their desserts/pastries.

This is a hidden gem of Montreal. I tried their persian fog & rose tea & they were both delicious. I have never tasted such a rich flavour of saffron jn a drink or a cake before. The design & colour & ambiance of this place was so beautiful.

We ordered brunch through Uber Eats & the real star of the show was their saffron cake-unlike anything I've ever tasted! The cake was perfectly moist, with a delicate balance of sweetness & the distinct, luxurious flavor of saffron. Each bite felt like a little indulgence. It's clear that the ingredients are of the highest quality, & the attention to detail in every dish is evident. I can't recommend Café Aunja enough-if you're a fan of unique, flavorful desserts, the saffron cake is a must-try!
