Burgundy Lion operates as a traditional British pub experience that focuses on authentic comfort food staples and a comprehensive selection of whiskies. The menu centers on classic fare such as crispy beer battered fish and chips served alongside minted mushy peas and tartare sauce. Hearty pies and savory pub snacks define the culinary approach by prioritizing rich flavors and consistent preparation techniques. The interior reflects the aesthetic of a classic London tavern with dark wood accents and leather booths. Patrons find an environment dedicated to the appreciation of malt beverages and imported ales in a focused setting. This establishment maintains a commitment to the fundamental principles of British pub culture by emphasizing quality ingredients and substantial portions. Every element of the service aligns with the traditions of a standard public house.
Burgundy Lion is widely celebrated as a premier English-style pub in Montreal, cherished for its warm, authentic atmosphere, stunning three-story wood and leather decor, and vibrant social energy during sporting events. Guests frequently praise the extensive and world-class collection of whiskies, alongside a menu of comforting British classics like fish and chips, bangers and mash, and delicious sticky toffee pudding. The establishment is frequently highlighted for its exceptional staff who provide friendly, efficient service, often going the extra mile to ensure a memorable experience, whether for a lively weekend brunch, a sophisticated afternoon tea in the glass-ceilinged greenhouse, or a casual pint. Many patrons view the restaurant as a true community staple, noting that its welcoming vibe and consistently high-quality food and drink make it a go-to destination for gatherings and celebrations.
Had a fantastic night here, the braised beef was delicious & the cocktails were spot on (maple old fashioned & French blonde). Unfortunately a bit loud but to be expected on a Friday night. Service was excellent, the waitress knew what celiac meant, knew the gluten-free items & doubled checked for me with the chef. Highly recommend!
We came yesterday for the trivia night & a taste of home. First of all just wanted to say how brilliant the servers were- getting us a table at the last minute & being very personable.
A few notes for the english;
Though described as a pub, its definitely more a restaurant- make a booking!
& don't be a purist- we got served a cider in a guiness glass, so we had a good laugh.
On the food- the sticky toffee desser was excellent, though my minestrone was quite watery & my sisters fish was described as large fish fingers rather than a traditional fish & chips.
Overall, a great experience, would recommend.

Atmosphere was really nice for a night out. Staff was really pleasant & gave us free dessert for a birthday. Ordered the burger & it lacked colour & was gray in the middle. The Croque Madame was very goood highly recommend! For downtown Montreal, it's nice & reasonably priced. Verity of options ! Great place for a girls night out with friends ! Placed filled up pretty quick, so reservation is highly recommended!
Fantastic experience at Burgundy Lion! The fish & chips were absolutely spot on crispy batter, flaky fish, & perfect chips. What really made the visit stand out, though, was our waitress. She was super fast, incredibly friendly, & didn't miss a beat. Easily one of the best English pub experiences I've had in a while. Highly recommended!!
I recently had a wonderful afternoon tea experience at Burgundy Lion. If you are looking for a relaxing spot to chat & enjoy some great treats, this is a fantastic choice.
The Atmosphere
We sat on the second floor, which is beautifully decorated like a greenhouse. With the glass roof & plenty of lush green leaves, the vibe was perfect for a long catch-up with friends. It felt bright, airy, & very cozy.
The Food & Drink
• Tea Service: Each person gets their own pot of tea, & the best part is that refills are free! The tea quality was excellent.
• Three-Tiered Tray: The presentation was lovely. We received three trays of pastries including:
• Top Tier: Macarons, canelés, & bite-sized chocolate treats.
• Middle Tier: Warm scones served with cream, jam, & butter.
• Bottom Tier: A variety of fresh finger sandwiches on different types of bread.
• Taste: Everything was very delicious & tasted fresh.
Value
The price was $60 per person, which included tax & required no extra tips. Given the quality of the food, the unlimited tea, & the beautiful setting, it felt like a very fair price for the experience.
Final Verdict: Highly recommend for anyone looking for a high-quality afternoon tea with a unique greenhouse atmosphere!
Nous y sommes allés pour regarder un match de LDC comme nous étions en vacances à Montréal & hors de question de rater un match! Bonne ambiance, le personnel est sympathique & accueillant. De plus, nous avons très bien mangé. Je recommande!
A British style pub in the heart of Montreal's Little Burgundy neighborhood, with a various assortment of whiskeys & beers along with classic British dishes such as bangers & mash & a classic British Fish & Chips I highly recommend this place you won't be disappointed.
