Coming from Ontario my husband & I searched for pinoy restaurants. Happy to find a 20 min walk fr our hotel. The place is dismal but we're thinking give it a chance .it's about filipino hospitality like smile, acknowledging ,& welcoming atmosphere.
Came in the guy behind the counter just looked at us/gave us a stare & NEVER EVER gave us a sense of hey we're happy that you came & happy to cook good food for you. We felt wow, that's one miserable staff. To us its about first impression the feel of filipino pride, this one did not deliver. We ended up leaving & very disappointed.

Buboy restaurant, treat everyone with good intention. You never know who are the people you ALMOST had as a customer.

Little counter restaurant serving hard to find filipino food. It's a small operation so service can be slow but the ambiance is nice. I had the bulalo, it was alright. I'll have to try more of the menu.

Went to Montreal for a few day & stumbled on this little hidden gem. Pretty random location inside a small building in Chinatown, but it was so good we came back for a second meal. Modern twists on Filipino classics. I was literally dreaming of their spicy beef short rib sinigang. The miki & pancit are a must with lechón. My only regret is not having enough days to come back & try the rest of the menu. We ate at Toque & Joe Beef & I think this was my favorite meal of the three. So good!

I am a Filipino & tried to help & support local business. I bought this as take home. I was disappointed the I only got 1/4 filled . This is only a small snack for a child. As you can see you can count the noodles you have served me.
The thought that the hype was good food is only ok. I tried to let you know on your Insta but got no response Sorry but not coming back to you.

I visited twice on the same Montreal trip, which I think says something. Either about Buboy's potential, or my own optimism. Possibly both.

First visit, I ordered the bulalo. At Buboy they serve it with noodles, which is their prerogative. I asked for rice on the side because I'm Filipino, & also the grandchild of a rice farmer, so this is something I take personally. The rice was dry enough that not even the bulalo broth could rescue it, which is a sentence I genuinely did not expect to write about a Filipino restaurant. The beef in the bulalo was also quite lean, which made me reconsider whether the noodles would have even helped. The broth itself was decent. I could see the vision. I just couldn't fully live in it.

The music situation: the staff were changing songs constantly, which is a pet peeve of mine both as a customer & as someone who has worked in food service.'Folded' by Kehlani came on. They changed it immediately. I am not over this.

Second visit, different friend, different order. I got the tinapa fried rice, which was genuinely good. I also paid extra for an additional egg, somewhere in the $2-3 range, & received half an egg. So I paid to complete the egg that came with the dish.

Buboy has real ideas. The menu has personality. Our friends who live in Montreal love it, & I wanted to love it too. I just think the execution stumbles on the things that should be the easiest to get right. Rice. Beef. The egg math (I know there's eggflation, but still.)

I'll probably try the ube crinkle cookie next time I'm in town. There will probably be a next time.

I finally visited Buboy, a Filipino restaurant that gives a twist to classic Filipino dishes. I ordered the crispy kare-kare & crab rangoon. The presentation was not as appetizing as what I saw on their IG, but the taste made up for it. It was really good. When they say crispy, it is truly crispy. The crab rangoon was a standout & something I would order again.

Also, shoutout to the staff who served my food. She was very nice & welcoming. I felt a bit guilty for not smiling back when she smiled at me. Great service overall.

A steaming Filipino bowl of Bulalo: rich, clear bone broth layered with deep beef flavor, tender shank falling off the bone, sweet corn, soft cabbage, & fresh noodles soaking it all in. Comforting, honest, & deeply satisfying.
Between sips & bites, we drifted through conversations about Montreal, travels across Asia, geopolitics, & cinema, the world feeling both vast & right there at the table. 🍲🌏

We appreciated the attentive service & professionalism of your staff during our recent visit to Montreal.

We're puzzled that the online reviews don't accurately reflect the restaurant's actual location, which is within a small corner space of a larger building.

Unfortunately, the food we tried didn't live up to the standards suggested by the reviews. Although the Filipino dishes did have an authentic taste, our overall experience was marred by concerns over sanitation & the ambiance of the premises.

We hope you can use this feedback to improve & align the experience with your online presence. 😩😑🫣

This cozy little restaurant is tucked away on a corner, but don't let that fool you! It serves up some of the most delicious Filipino dishes that will have you return for more. Every bite is simply mouth-watering! The friendly gentlemen who served us were quick & polite, improving our experience. A big shoutout to them!

Looking for some authentic Filipino food? Then you have to try Buboy!
It might not be the biggest or the fanciest spot, but trust me the food is absolutely delicious & the service is warm & welcoming.
Sometimes it's the simple places that deliver the best meals, & Buboy is definitely one of them. A true hidden gem worth checking out! ✨🍴

Staff are kind & super hospitable, especially for a hole in the wall type of restaurant. It was a busy busy day when we visited, but they still made everything work. As a Filipino, the food is less salty than what we're used to, which isn't entirely bad, since the Kare-Kare hit but I lowkey wished for that Shrimp Paste taste (Customers around me, however, really loved it!). Kinilaw was perfect & refeshing, my friend enjoyedit a lot. Crinkles were awesome, & the ube-leche flan was delightful (the ube was so soft like spongecake). The halo-halo was so packed & I was so touched as I already completely forgot the last time I had this dessert. Anyway, so cute, would come again for bread & pastries. Check them out

We went to visit Montréal & one of our travel plans was to eat filipino food as there are not many of them in the Province of New Brunswick, where we reside. This was the first one we tried & we tried two other filipino restaurants after. We made sure to add it again to our itinerary before we left the city. Both times we ate at the establishment, we were served with excellent service & a very tasty dish. The crispy pork skin in the Kare Kare was cooked to perfection. A must place to eat!

Saw this place on Social Media & decided to check it out with some friends & boy did we not regret it. Nice little Filipino restaurant that served what I'm told is authentic food & I believe it. I had the Pancit Canton which were stir fried noodles that were well seasoned & nicely spiced. I added Lechon for an extra 4$ & it added a nice meatyness & crunchiness that was complimented by the seasoning & texture of the noodles. Definitely worth coming here.

Buboy is a really tasty, homey, local restaurant joint with a twist on staple Filipino dishes. We had oxtail karekare, loco-gang, & longsilog. The portions are great, rice-heavy as what your Filipino mom will put on your plate. We had calamansi juice as well, which is always a refreshing drink to enjoy

Hard to find another good Filipino restaurant in Montreal with flavours close to home. The OG Bulalo hit the spot I was craving for.
