Very disappointing experience. The photos & menu are misleading. The actual place looks nothing like what's advertised. Cleanliness & sanitation also did not seem well maintained.
I tried speaking Tagalog while ordering but the staff couldn't communicate in the language, which surprised me given how the place presents itself. The service also felt rude & not very welcoming, I think they also don't know what they are selling.
On top of that, the menu was inaccurate because several Filipino dishes shown or advertised were not actually available. Overall, the experience really did not meet expectations we wasted our 3hrs travel time to visit this place because we thought it's really worth to try. I was honestly surprised to see so many positive reviews because our experience was very different from what I expected after reading them.
Good, thought missing some veggie in the dishes. I enjoyed the food though I'm not sure enough to go out of my way to go back. The meat was delicious. The lechon baboy had too much rice for the meat if I recall right. & the bulalo was good, meat was good though. Tender.
I finally visited Buboy, a Filipino restaurant that gives a twist to classic Filipino dishes. I ordered the crispy kare-kare & crab rangoon. The presentation was not as appetizing as what I saw on their IG, but the taste made up for it. It was really good. When they say crispy, it is truly crispy. The crab rangoon was a standout & something I would order again.
Also, shoutout to the staff who served my food. She was very nice & welcoming. I felt a bit guilty for not smiling back when she smiled at me. Great service overall.
We appreciated the attentive service & professionalism of your staff during our recent visit to Montreal.
We're puzzled that the online reviews don't accurately reflect the restaurant's actual location, which is within a small corner space of a larger building.
Unfortunately, the food we tried didn't live up to the standards suggested by the reviews. Although the Filipino dishes did have an authentic taste, our overall experience was marred by concerns over sanitation & the ambiance of the premises.
We hope you can use this feedback to improve & align the experience with your online presence. 😩😑🫣
We tried the Kamayan Christmas dinner special-a collaboration with Dobe & Andy-& wow. If you're a meat lover, this will absolutely blow your socks off. The spread was loaded with BBQ pork, crispy pork, chicken, duck skewers, veggies, cream cheese & crab dumplings, plus a generous portion of fried rice packed with even more meat.
Reservations are required since it's a group-style meal, & it's well worth planning ahead. Other standouts for us were the coconut soup with crispy pork & the bone broth-both comforting & deeply flavorful.
Buboy is truly a rare gem in Montreal. Huge thanks to Chef Eric for consistently offering such unique, delicious dishes at prices that remain accessible.
Food looked awesome, but taste was off, bland & not working together.
Was very disappointed & still confused by the dishes I received.
Maybe it was bad luck…
Price was decent
Service was cold
This cozy little restaurant is tucked away on a corner, but don't let that fool you! It serves up some of the most delicious Filipino dishes that will have you return for more. Every bite is simply mouth-watering! The friendly gentlemen who served us were quick & polite, improving our experience. A big shoutout to them!
Buboy is a really tasty, homey, local restaurant joint with a twist on staple Filipino dishes. We had oxtail karekare, loco-gang, & longsilog. The portions are great, rice-heavy as what your Filipino mom will put on your plate. We had calamansi juice as well, which is always a refreshing drink to enjoy
I absolutely love this restaurant, the food & staff. They're always super friendly & go out of their way with recs & service. My sole complaint is that they're often out of certain dishes & preferring not to eat red meat or pork, it can be a bit tricky as most dishes contain the latter. I have tried their Miki Noodle soup (fav), the OG Bulalo & shrimp Palabok. All were fantastic! (Dont worry about the picture, the rangoons come in 5 but I couldn't help myself from eating one first lol)
Buboy is my favorite Filipino restaurant here in Montréal. They offer the best-tasting dishes paired with the most amazing staff. Shoutout to Chef Eric for always thinking of ways on how to innovate Filipino flavors through his unique dishes, & for placing Filipino cuisine in the MTL food map. Pro-tip: Ask for their homemade ice cream. I don't think it's posted in the menu, but it's definitely worth the try.
