For a relaxing, romantic fine dining experience, definitely make reservations. Restaurant Bonaparte is truly a stand-out in Montreal restaurants in terms of food, atmosphere, & service & is in one of our favorite memories in Montreal. We were seated by the window which was lovely. The cocktail list had so many interesting & delicious sounding cocktails that it was hard to choose. Each came with a card with a painting of a partially clothed woman & description of the cocktail. I got the Ah! Camomille which had a lovely base of chamomile flavor with honey & floral flavors. It went well with the lobster.

Our waiter took excellent care of us. Even with two other tables with one larger group of four or five, our conversation could be easily heard.

We had such a lovely dinner & relaxing experience, my husband even ordered an after dinner coffee, which he never does. We will definitely return the next time we are in Montreal.View more

I was looking for a nice French restaurant in Montreal & found it with Bonaparte! C'était magnifique & très très délicieuse!! Georges did a great job telling us about the food & wine & greatly appreciated the service. Between the lobster bisque, fois gras, filet mignon, & paired wines from all over, the experience was exquisite.View more

Wow, what a classy beautiful & classy restaurant! The staff are friendly & excellent in their job. The service was impeccable. We had three course meal to celebrate my birthday. I started with the soup of the day, with sweet potato, squash & carrots. It was heartwarming. Then my main platter was lobster à la vanilla. The aroma was enchanting & the taste was out of the world. We finished the dinner a classic crème brûlée. So succulent. It's a high end restaurant therefore the price is super high. Overall worth it.View more

We had dinner at the Bonaparte restaurant & is was great. The maître D very cheerfully escorted us to our table. Our waitress Juliette(?) was excellent. I couldn't commend the wait staff more. They were all very attentive. The food was fabulous. I had the shrimp & scallop appetizer. My entree was the cod special & it was out of this world. My had lobster & loved it. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more,View more

Lovely food with strong drinks, classic décor & attentive wait staff. The filet mignon would've been better marinated, & the portions are on the smaller side. That said, the fricassée mushrooms were delicious, & the lobster with vanilla was amazing after salt had been addedView more

Overall, the food is very standard & quality or even maybe lower than regular restaurant & not worth the price. 1. Lobster bisque: standard soup. Not bad but not good. 2. Duck foie gras: the combination of the ingredient does not help to enhance the flavour. The duck foie gras instead of regular foie gras can tell you they try to cheap out. 3. Smoke salmon: random ingredient combination. Basically pieces of salmon with some vegetable. 4. Shrimp & scollop: wonderful shrimp taste, but a bit over cooked scollop. I think their plate is way hot for this dish. The seafood fish does not need this. 5. Rabbit conflict: prob one of the best one. Like the pastry texture. But again, same salad on the side. 6. Sober: like this part of the menu. Nevertheless, wish the sparking wine is actually a bit more fizz. It would bring up the taste more. 7. Lamb rack: horrible. The lamb quality is ordinary. The potato is not cooked thorough. All the vegetable have nothing to do with lamb flavour. The sauce is super thick, like syrup as shown in the last picture. 8. Filet mignon: initially ordered medium rare, but turns out to be medium to well done. We asked for the redone. The second piece is amazing. The best dish of the night. The meat is soft & tender, well balenced favor. Again, uncooked potato. 9. dessert: the dessert make me feel like this restaurant wants to give quantity than quality. Every single one taste like something u can get from random grocery shop. I couldn't finish any of the three. 10. Service: the waitress was nice. But I think the management was not good. We sit down for 10 mins without anyone coming up to us or offer water. 11. Taste menu: no creation at all. That's maybe the reason why their service do not even need to introduce or explain the dish ar all. It is my first time ever having a tasting menu & can visually see the simple combination of the ingredient which does not require explanation. 12. Nice location for the restaurant, I guess some fees goes to the location.View more

Bonaparte's location in the old port centre is part & parcel to the old-world charm. Inside, the restaurant is well-appointed & elegant. Music softly complimented the ambiance. Our food was most delicious: Lobster bisque & onion for starters; entrees included the Boeuf à la bourguignonne (Beef bourguignonne) & Suprême de volaille au brie du Québec fondant, crème de sauge (chicken with brie & sage) with Creme Brule & Napoleon for our desserts. The staff was appropriately attentive, proper, & friendly. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience!View more

Very nice dining experience for my family. The atmosphere & design of the restaurant were great. I really recommend the lobster salad & the roasted duck breast. The lobster was cooked to perfection paired with a delicious maple syrup dressing. The duck breast was cooked to a perfect doneness, was juicy, had a crispy skin, & was paired with a flavorful maple dressing. Our waitress Sheila was also very friendly, knowledgeable, & added to the experience.View more

It was a wonderful experience! No wonder it is the best restaurant in Montréal. I loved almost everything. Dress something nice, you will feel like a King/Queen. It took us about 1hr & 40mins to complete the tasting menu. First of all, the atmosphere was beautiful. The music, the walls, the tables, the menu, & the plating went very well together. The Christmas tree was beautifully decorated with dried cirtus. I had to take pictures up close. Servers were very professional & attentive. It was a busy night, but they all had a smile on their face & looked very happy working there. Clumsy me, I dropped the butter knife as soon as I got to my seat. I was so embarrassed, but the servers replaced it right away without us asking or getting their attention. Now, the food, we tried the tasting menu, & it was an awesome choice. My husband & I ordered different things & shared them. Salad & lobster bisque - both were great choices; Salmon was no doubt, Duck Foie Gras Crème Brûlée was not for my taste, but I was glad that I tried it; mushroom ravioli was so wonderful, rabbit confit was not my style but again, l loved that I tried it; pear sorbet cleansed my pallet well (but was too boozy for me); roasted duck was heavenly & was the highlight of my meal (got it medium) & lamb was also heavenly (medium as well); tea (gave me a whole pot, loved it) & coffee; cheese option was really great & Pastry was is the only plate I couldn't finish. We didn't take the wine pairing option. We ordered drinks separately. Overall we were very satisfied. Highly recommend to try.View more

This restaurant perfectly embodies the essence of Old Port: good looks, no substance. We got the tasting menu. The appetizers were interesting but nonetheless disappointing. For example the foie gras crème brûlée was an interesting concept, but didn't deliver. The savouriness did not pair well with the pear compote. The lobster bisque was thoroughly disappointing. It was grainy & lacked any flavor other than the stench of a fish market. There was little, if any, lobster in it. For a meal of this price, it's a slap in the face. The entrées were similarly lackluster... by the time they came. The lamb stew was decent, but the sauce had coagulated. It wasn't memorable, & not something I recommend spending money on. The poisson du jour was average, but the sides it came with were scarce & unimaginative. Finally the desserts were good, but nothing special. All in all, I cannot recommend spending money at this restaurant. You're far better off going somewhere outside of Old Port.View more

We had the tasting menu with wine pairings for $192 CA each. The meal was a major disappointment. The lobster bisque with ginger tasted like burned lobster carcass. My "filet" was gristly & tough. The accompanying wines were pedestrian at best; I can't imagine that any of the bottles (of which we had a small pour) cost more than $25.View more

We did the tasting menu, though I'd describe it more as a prix fixe menu. The food overall was good, but not supurb. The ginger lobster bisque did not have much lobster & I didn't taste any ginger. I also wasn't a huge fan that the seafood options were flavored with vanilla. But our waitress was great & had an awesome bowtie. The blueberry nonalcoholic drink was very tasty, sweet.View more

4.5/5 Great ambience & vibe. The avg age of guests there is high, meaning it's a consistent & authentic restaurant. The interior gives some French castle vibe. Love it. The service was good except that our server was covering half the tables there by himself. He was nice but too occupied with other guests. Food was great. Appetizers were better than the mains. Great seafood, foie gras, lobster salad & duck breast. Beef bourguignon & lamb shank was alright. P.s. their wine list was impressiveView more

Updated review: ambiance is good, staff is a bit less experienced than it used to be but did very well :)

Food took a nose dive since our last visit. We had the tasting menu & this was not our first time so our expectations were high. The lobster bisque lacked depths, salt & the twist you would expect from such a place. It tasted like lobster bouillon mainly. The Smoked Salmon & the scallops appetizers were amazing. The mushroom raviolis were dry & crunchy around the edges as if there were left outside under a heating lamp too long.
The mains were good. However my wife was disappointed by the size of the lobster serving. About one claw… I was expecting also expecting the desserts to be at the same level as last time but was let down. Dried out macarons are just not Ok for a place that charges 150$-200$ per person . If it was a regular restaurant maybe our expectations would be lower, but a place of this standing & price you expect impeccable food & service. Not to mention the fact that the neighbouring table returned their dessert & didn’t seem impressed.

Disappointed to be honest. It used to be a favourite.View more

What a disappointment. We came here to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary because they are "known for special occasions." To begin with, the food was quite flavorless & extremely overpriced. The onion soup had almost no flavor & tasted like they put some onions in broth. Their "specialty" lobster bisque wasn't much better. The mushroom ravioli was quite good. From there, the dishes were completely underwhelming, especially at $50 price points. Then came the theatrics. The manager decided it best to berate our waitress in front of the entire dining room & basically right next to our table. The entire night we saw them bringing sparklers with plates of desserts to every table, but absolutely nothing to celebrate the 50th anniversary (the manager wished them a happy 50th as we walked in, so it's not like he didn't know). When we mentioned it to our server, the staff brought out an embarrassment of a square of cheesecake that was thrown on our table after we had finished all of our food. The only saving grace was our server, Genevieve, who was absolutely wonderful. Upon leaving, we also noticed how dirty the lobby was with fully formed spider webs above the front desk. Eat here at your own risk.
