If you're a food lover in Montreal's West Island, missing out on Bernie's Pizza Martini Bar would be a culinary crime. This gem of a spot marries cozy, upscale vibes with a menu that delivers both creativity & comfort in every bite. Whether you're a regular or a first-time guest, Bernie's guarantees a memorable dining experience, one that leaves your taste buds dancing & your heart fullest.
Take one look at this pizza & you'll understand why it steals the show. Perfectly cooked with a golden, crispy crust, this half-&-half masterpiece showcases the kitchen's range. One side is generously topped with mini pepperoni, pepperocini peppers & Mike's hot honey, bringing a perfect balance of spice & tang that complements the melty, rich mozzarella. The other half? A mushroom lover's dream. Earthy, caramelized mushrooms blanket the cheesy surface, adding deep umami flavor that pairs wonderfully with the subtle sharpness of the cheese & truffle flavours. It's a pizza that caters to every craving & executes both halves to perfection.
If you're looking for something hearty & soul-warming, Bernie's meatball dish is simply divine. These aren't your average meatballs they're tender, juicy, & bursting with flavor, served in a robust tomato sauce that's clearly been simmered to perfection. You can taste the love & old-school Italian influence in every bite. It's the kind of dish that transports you straight to Nonna's Sunday dinner table with a little bit of a twist due to the cinnamon notes you get as well.
Even a Caesar salad gets the star treatment at Bernie's. Crisp romaine is tossed in a creamy, tangy house-made dressing that hits all the right notes garlicky, savory, with a hint of lemon. Topped with fresh parmesan shavings & crispy croutons, it's a refreshingly bold starter that could easily stand alone as a light, satisfying meal.View more
Our first visit to Bernie's was a resounding success. Literally the best calamari I've ever had, delicious pizza & exquisite & inventive martinis. Our server was super friendly & attentive. We'll definitely be back again soon.View more
Disappointed & disgusted with Bernie's Pizza Martini Bar July 5, 2025
Four us went here to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We chose 4 different pizzas so we could try a few different ones. To our shock, all the pizzas were burnt! Not just the outer crust but the bottoms of the pizzas as well. We called over our server, showed her the worst charred pizza & asked for a replacement. About 15 minutes later, the replacement arrived & it was burnt also. At this point we were fed up, asked for our bill & left, vowing to never return. Aside from the burnt pizzas (5 in all) the noise level is ridiculously loud & the tables are very tightly crammed in together. I gave 2 stars because they play great music & the decor is cute. Also, the Caesar salad was good as were the beef sliders & fries. You can see my full review with photos on West Island Honest Reviews & Breaking Bread West Island.View more
Food: The Signature Ceasar was delicious & Bernies Beef Sliders were juicy & flavourful. The fries gave off serious McDonald's vibes (in a good way!) But the real MVP was the Cheesy Garlic Rolls. Absolutely to die for! We were too full so we didn't get to try the pizza.
Atmosphere: The decor was super cozy. However, the space was extremely cramped. Tables were so close together it felt like I was sharing dinner with the next party. The music was too loud, making conversation a bit of a challenge. On top of that, I felt a bit rushed, which detracted from what could have been a more relaxing dining experience.View more
We had high hopes for Bernie's, & while the experience was decent overall, a few things held it back.
It was raining when we arrived & we had reserved a table on the terrace. Unfortunately, the host didn't make much of an effort to accommodate us inside & initially tried to seat us outdoors despite the weather, which left a bad first impression.
That said, the decor is great - cozy, stylish, & very welcoming. The ambiance was definitely a strong point.
The food was hit or miss. The sliders were quite tasty, but the pizza was on the dry side. For dessert, the chocolate cake was clearly store-bought - I've seen & tasted the exact same one at Costco. Overall, the menu could use more variety & freshness.
What really stood out, though, was our bartender/server. He was incredibly attentive & made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening.
A nice spot with potential, but a few key things need improvement to make it truly memorable.View more
Gluten free be forewarned: box does not indicate size of pizza.
After ordering a gluten free Hot Pep pizza & a Cesar salad for pickup, we were impressed by the size of the box upon receiving it.
Once we arrived home & opened the box we were surprised & disappointed to say the least. I understand that gluten free crust is normally smaller due to it being harder to make & needs to be frozen, but the misleading box size left a sour taste in our mouths… pun intended.
Charging extra for gluten free is also standard across restaurants but I can't help but feel overcharged a bit when the pizza was close to $45 for what it was. Especially since you're saving a substantial amount of produce just from how small it is.
If we are to put that behind us & focus solely on flavour, it was good, but nothing to write home about. The sauce was nice, on the sweeter side, & the cheese was normal. The pepperoni were not cooked through enough to where they made the'cup'. The peperoncino & hot honey were very sparse for a Hot Pep pizza.
It was not bad by any means, we were just hoping for more.
The Cesar salad was lacklustre, completely average iceberg lettuce & dressing. Nothing special about it to make it their own. Once again, fine but nothing to write home about.
One extreme positive was the service & atmosphere, I don't want this review to sound like a bash, we just had an underwhelming experience regarding the food. It doesn't mean the place is bad.
The hostess & owner (Bernie's son) are very nice & bring a positive energy to the place, & the design of the restaurant is very inviting & lovely. I would strongly recommend it to dine in!
To conclude, I would say give it a go, but don't expect to be blown away with the order we got. Maybe if I got a non gluten free pizza it would be life changing!View more
Bernie's Pizza Martini Bar was fantastic! The pizza, calamari, & Caesar salad were all amazing - fresh, flavorful, & clearly made with care. The martinis were also perfect, expertly mixed & a great complement to the meal.
The only downside was that the appetizers & main meal came out nearly at the same time, which made the table crowded & the meal feel rushed. It would be much better if the courses were staggered to allow guests to properly enjoy each dish.
Overall, a great spot that I would definitely visit again!View more
Had a great experience at Bernie's! The food was delicious, & the drinks were both tasty & well-priced. Our server, James, was attentive & professional, making the whole evening smooth & enjoyable. The ambience, decor, & music all added to the great vibes-especially impressive for the West Island. Definitely worth a visit!View more
Went to Bernie's Pizza Martini bar for my birthday. The vibe is amazing, super cozy but still has that cool lively energy. The service was on point, everyone was friendly.
The food was unreal. The Caesar salad was creamy & rich, exactly how it should be. The pizza was insane, like every bite was better than the last. & the hot honey dipping sauce goes with literally everything.
It's been a long time I havent enjoyed a martini the way I did at Bernie's. The glasses are so CUTE. I had the passion fruit martini & it surpassed my expectations. Dessert was also great im still craving the chocolate cookie dessert…
If you're looking for a solid spot in the West Island you have to try Bernie's.View more
We really enjoyed our experience here!! Atmosphere was very fun, delicious drinks & pizza. We got the Caesar salad, Bernies All Dressed & Hot Pep pizzas & the cookie for dessert. Everything was amazing! The portions are quite big so 2 pizzas & an appetizer was more than enough for 4 people. Overall, I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting try this place out.View more
Bernies was a vibe! I loved the pizza & drinks! The service was amazing as well , considering that it was packed in the restaurant. The food & drinks came out in great time. I cant wait to be back in the summeView more
Finally tried Bernie's pizza. It was pretty good not knock my socks off good but pretty good. Pretty decent toppings to dough ratio & the flavours are pretty good as well. I think their pizzas are mostly the same size you'll get about a 12 inch & I think they're all thin crust, the martinis are good as well not exceptional. Bernie is the vibe though decoration is super pretty. The music is good as well. Playing old-school movies on the TV. It's a fun place, the service is really quick so if you do go & you have that two hour cap you won't have to worry about them being slow & the servers were really nice. Be aware that it's a very small restaurant so the tables are very close together, but if you don't mind that then you'll have a great time. All in all it's a cool new spot in the West Island.View more
Is there a better combination than delicious pizza, the perfect extra dirty martini, & oldies playing in the background? I don't think so! What a wonderful first experience at Bernies, & I know it won't be my last 😍View more
