Barranco is a modern Peruvian cuisine restaurant located in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal on Saint-Denis Street. It offers authentic flavors thanks to several products imported directly from Peru.
Barranco MTL gets high marks for fresh, flavorful Peruvian cuisine, with standout ceviche, octopus, lomo saltado, and arroz con mariscos, plus creative cocktails and indulgent desserts. The atmosphere is lively, colorful, and welcoming, making it a great spot for celebrations, casual nights out, or terrace brunch, with a warm, attentive service that often makes guests feel well cared for. The menu blends Peruvian street food with refined touches, and portions are generous, though a few notes mention busier times can bring slower service and some noise. Drinks are a highlight, from authentic pisco sours to inventive mocktails, and the overall experience is described as memorable and worth returning for. Reservations are recommended to avoid waiting, and the team is consistently praised for knowledge of the menu and thoughtful recommendations. It’s frequently described as authentic, vibrant, and delicious, with many guests feeling transported to Lima by the flavors, ambiance, and friendly staff. Barranco MTL stands out as a top pick for those seeking high-quality Peruvian cuisine in Montreal, with a lively vibe that invites sharing and good times.
I first visited this restaurant last week & did not have a positive experience. The manager Felix invited me & a guest for a second try & we had a wonderful experience. I had the lomo saltado & my friend had the salchipapa asada. Both dishes were bursting with flavour & prove why Peruvian cuisine is one of the best. The floor manager took the time to explain to us the cooking & ingredients, it's clear that the staff are well trained on the menu. She was kind enough to offer us a dessert & we chose las ruinas. Again a unique dessert with balanced sweetness & crunchiness. Happy to try this restaurant again & will gladly visit to try the other dishes. Quality establishment, well managed & a special menu.
The best Peruvian food I've tried in Canada in 7 years here. I tried the ceviche, lomo saltado & causa & it was all delicious & very fresh. Thank you for making justice to our cuisine & keeping it true to our tradition.
Awesome experience. Servers were super nice. They do that dancy/loud music thing that a lot restaurants do to make it "fun". The portions are huge! We were like "Did we accidentally sign up for an eating contest?"
It was our first time at Barranco & we were so impressed. The service was amazing; the waiter was pleasant, attentive & we felt taken care of throughout the entire night. The food was amazing! Everything from the appetizers to the desserts was flavorful, delicious & well prepared. The portions are quite generous as well. Will definitely be back & highly recommend.
Food was fantastic, as well as cocktails, but there are two things that could be worked on: Mtlatable menu was nowhere to be found, despite the event still running & being advertised, & also the service was having not the best day - it took a while to get to order drinks, even more to order food. Maybe they were understaffed last night, hopefully next time it won't take almost an hour to get a drink
I am not sure if our experience was unique. The menu is only online so we needed to use the QR code on the table to look at the menu. It took us a few minutes to figure out what we wanted. After only being there for 10 minutes the hostess came up to warn us our reservation was only for 2 hours so we needed to move along. The food came very promptly & appeared fresh but not particularly inspired. The Solterito was the best in that its ingredients were the most unique & interesting but still lacked a strong flavor to define it as uniquely from Peru. It was rather bland. I did not taste any coriander which was the one spice listed in the menu. The music was loud with lots of Salsa & Regatone. My impression was there was more emphasis made to making this a hip destination rather than a worthwhile dining experience. We were gone after a little more than an hou
