This place used to be amazing, the type of place you would want to gate keep. However, my last experience was very disappointing, the main issue was our server. She did not use a pen & a paper to note my order with my friends (we are three in total). Each time we order, whether drinks or food, the server would come back at least 3-4 times for each step of the service just to verify if she took the proper order.
1. My friend A ordered a matcha. She ordered 2 because she thought that my friend B wanted to order one of her suggestions.
2. My friend A & I ordered an appetizer to share. The server never ordered it. Finally we received our main meals, then that's the only moment when the server realized we never received our appetizer. It is notable that her excuse was:'The kitchen's receipts are currently not functioning, so I must write everything for them to do the orders. I forgot to write & send the appetizer.'
3. I said I was thinking of ordering something savoury as main. She suggested the chicken with a waffle. I ended up choosing the halloumi, but I received her suggestion instead.
4. It is important to also note that we were the first & only customers at that moment. It took at least 5-10 minutes for me to receive my cereal latte, which was the first order made, nothing else.
5. When we were about to pay, there were 3 bills in total. The server forgot to take off the appetizer we never received. When she took it off my bill, she never gave me the corrected copy. Instead, she gave me the old one, & simply applied my new balance in the payment terminal, as she said:'I remember the amount by heart.'
All of these back to back issues could have been minimized if the server had a pen & a paper in the first place. It was upsetting when it happened way too much. The only reason why we even tipped 15% was because the server seemed nice, & it's a restaurant I used to enjoy visiting. I hope such calamity wouldn't happen again, specially when there's only one table in the restaurant.View more
Was quite disappointed :( Ordered the matcha pancakes but they didn't have the white chocolate sauce to go with it & didn't tell me until the pancakes came out with another sauce. I asked for maple syrup instead as I didn't like substitute. They were slow to bring the food but then many times asked to clear the plates/glasses while we still had food or drink left.View more
The food is not bad, but not great either. A friend & I had the chicken waffle & fatteh. We had also ordered a flat white & a matcha latte which only arrived while we were already halfway through our meal. It's a shame since the place & vibe is nice.View more
Good but nothing amazing. Matcha pancake was good but labneh dish had barely any pita to accompany the dips. Practical to be able to make reservations since so many brunch places don't take any.View more
went this morning with a group of 5 people. the menu has DRASTICALLY changed. there are only around 9 ish items on the menu (individual) & 4 that are meant to share. the portions are ridiculously small & expensive for what you get. i.e 19$ for thé Crème brûlée french toast (you get ONE slide of toast) & the 16$ Turkish eggs. The waitress advised to get the extra smoked salmon (+5$) since the portion was small for the Turkish eggs, which turned out to be a waste. I received 4 mini slices (no more than 2cm x 3cm) added to my meal. crazy. 2 stars only for the matcha. that was pretty decent. not coming back though.View more
We had a reservation at Barley Brunch for 3pm, but arrived about half an hour early. The hostess greeted us warmly-super friendly & welcoming-& let us know our table was already ready, which was a nice surprise.
Barley was on my list of top 5 must-try brunch spots in Montreal, based on Instagram recommendations. Overall, the food was decent. The chicken & waffles had potential, but the sauce was a little overpowering for our taste. The salad was okay-not particularly memorable-but the star of the show was definitely the matcha pancake. That did not disappoint. Highly recommend trying it if you go!
We also ordered some teas, & one person in our group who can't have milk was a bit disappointed to find out they only offered milk & not cream as an alternative. It's a small detail, but worth noting.
All in all, the service was fantastic, the vibe was great, & the matcha pancake alone makes it worth a visit.View more
This place is brunch perfection! The vibe is cozy & welcoming, the staff is friendly, & the food? Unreal. I had the pancakes au matcha it was so goooooood. The coffee was spot-on. Quick service, gorgeous plates, & a menu that begs for repeat visits. Five stars-go treat yourself!View more
We walked in with birthday balloons, & right off the bat, Youssef was so accommodating - suggesting where we can put them for the birthday girl. We felt right at ease, with his kindness & banter. Once the birthday girl arrived, he offered her a birthday drink. It was very sweet & thoughtful. We ordered our food & drinks & everything was absolutely amazing. I had the fried chicken waffles, while the rest had the fried halloumi dish & the avocado toast. The coffee was also so delicious. Afterwards, Youssef brought over a taste of their caramel-hazel nut pancakes, & the matcha pancakes. It was such a wonderful treat. It was so wonderful feeling their hospitality & their attention to detail, & Youssef just wanted us to have a great time. He also gave us a tour of their speakeasy - we can't wait to come back!! We had the best experience, highly recommend!!View more
Superbe expérience. Superb experience. Great menu Bon menu Great latte, take it with cereals Bon late, prenez le avec cereales. Matcha is great too Le matcha est bon aussi.View more
Halloumi plate was great! Matcha pancakes are a bit salty, & the taste of matcha is really subtle, but it isn't too sweet, which is good. The portion for the pancakes is really big, it gets a bit boring so in my opinion it is best shared. Chai latte has ginger, which feels great to have in winter. It's sprinkled with cinnamon on top. We reserved for 3 people at 9:45am on a cold December 23rd, Monday, but there was no need to.View more
Honestly, food is amazing & been going to Barleys for awhile already & always recommend to friends & family! However, felt really disappointed today as I ordered because not only the price got higher (which is understandable) but the portion shrunk. The Matcha Pancake we ordered is literally almost half the portion of what it used to :( & my croissant sandwich was half the size of my hand... Really want to keep coming here but don't think I'll be going that much anymore :/ felt a bit sad after leaving the store :(View more

View more
The matcha pancakes are buttery & fluffy an absolute delight! I even recommend it for people who aren't fans of white chocolate, the combo is truly a hit!View more
The matcha pancakes that I got was pretty good, I only came here for that because I saw a TikTok on it. I would get it again if I come back to Montreal since I'm not from there. But my friend got the chicken & waffles & it was ok, not the best. The chicken was too crispy that it was kinda hard to eat & the waffles was too fluffy that it was hard to swallow. Service was questionable, as when we walked in, they said there was a group of 13 about to come & denied us a table without reservation. After like 3 minutes, they came back outside because we were still there & said they had 2 tables open for 2. We went in & there were many tables open.View more
My girlfriend & I decided to go here for brunch. We both love the matcha pancakes & have had it for takeout loads of times, so we decided to sit in this time around. Unfortunately, we had a pretty bad experience & don't know if we'll be back anytime soon. My meal was slightly cold, which didn't really bother me at first. But after asking for our check, we ended up waiting another half hour or so - the two waitress we asked honestly couldn't care less about us. This was a shame as we enjoy their food. Bummer.View more
Hands down one of the best meals I've had in a long time ♥️. The matcha pancakes & the halloumi platter were delicious, beautifully presented, & perfectly balanced!! The service was also just lovely & I'm so glad we could have real Lebanese food!View more
The matcha pancakes... eh, I wasn't too crazy about it. They were ALRIGHT taste wise (maybe i expected more of a sweet flavor). I'm glad i got a good portion. However, the bar table was field of white dusts 🥲 I'd recommend to be careful about it, especially with the glasses absorbing dusts Other than that, pretty looking restaurant. & thank you to Youssef for serving me :)View more
Amazing brunch spot. Matcha pancakes must try. Always busy but always clean.View more
matcha pancakes at brunch were heavenly 😍😍😍 we had the moroccan dish also which was very tasty definitely i'll go againView more
The service was amazing. I have tasted many matcha pancakes but by far Barley's is the best one. I also tried the halloumi plate (big cheese fan) that was also delicious. It was a reasonable price for everything i got. Very cute place.View more
Went to Barley for brunch with friends & had an amazing time! We ordered a few things to share. The food was great , the matcha pancakes & the central park toast were my fav!! The matcha latte with lavender syrup was also yummy. 🍵 & the the waitress was super attentive & friendly. Definitely going back :)View more
I was super excited to try this cereal bar. It is close to Lionel groulx metro. The place it self had a row of bar seats in different areas, booths & tables with seating available. The menu did have a lot of options to choose from & was especially accomadting for gluten free, vegan & non-lactose options/substitutes. The items are a bit pricey & the non lactose substitutes being +$1.00 additional charge. The food itself wasn't mind blowing but decent. The house pancakes were average. They had a pretty dense texture although, I expected it to be fluffy. My friends matcha pancakes were less dense. There wasn't much people but the service could have been improved as we had to flag down our waiter to order.View more
The atmosphere, service & food are top notch. The coffee, dirty chai & matcha latte.. super good! Best barista in townView more
My friend really wanted to try this place & I was a bit skeptical because of its 3.9 rating but decided to give it a try anyway & actually enjoyed our experience! The matcha pancakes were delicious. I'm glad I ordered them in the "mini" version (not shown on the menu but you can ask for it) because they were super heavy & filling. The halloumi plate on the other hand was light & tasty. I enjoyed it. Cocktails were also delicious & I have nothing bad to say about the service as opposed to most reviews here. They were friendly & efficient & I was even there during peak hours on a Sunday.View more
Good service, we went around 12 in a rainy day, & it wash full, however we didn't have to wait much, just around 5 minutes, however they manage you serve as many people as possible that the tables end up being excessively close to each other. I tried the Matcha Pancakes & although looks very good, wasn't special at all & it was pricey for some pancakes without much fruits. The americano was alright.View more
Delicious breakfast! (Mini matcha pancakes). Everyone was very nice.View more
