Bar Pamplemousse was a truly treasured part of our trip to Montreal. The meal, the drinks, & the ambiance were top tier, but the true highlight of this chapter in an our adventure was the service we received by Kaelie. They were outstanding as a server & provided a level of friendliness that I believe earns them the title of'honorary Maritimer' because it was like we were dining with an old friend.
For those wondering if you should visit here, the answer is a resounding yes. For those wondering what to get, there are no wrong options on these beautifully curated menus. For those with the power to incentivize Kaelie to stick around & keep making Bar Pamplemousse a staple of future journeys to the magnificent city of Montreal, this is your time to shine.
Pamplemousse Sunday night was a movie, Sam,Hugo, & Kaeliemade my night serendipitous. Fabrice & Tino we're lit too
I made a reservation for 3 (my husband, myself, & our 6-year-old) after driving in for the night for a show. On arrival we were turned away - this restaurant apparently doesn't serve anyone under 18. The manager tried to explain they are trying to create a'high-end experience' therefore they could not serve our child.
There were plenty of tables open inside & on the patio (which look deceivingly welcoming towards children). When I asked about ordering takeout for our child the manager deterred us by saying'it would take too long' & we should go to a food court down the street. As a person who frequents restaurants (both high end & casual) with my children & without, I have never been treated in this way, turned away, or have ever come across a policy like this.
We were told the policy was on the website & in the booking confirmation. it's actually not located on the homepage, & on OpenTable it's buried at the bottom of the page, easy to miss.
If this restaurant wants to stick by their'policy', put it clearly at the top of the booking process & the website homepage. This would avoid an awkward & frankly insulting conversation when people with children arrive. Or, remove this discriminating policy all together. Disappointing experience, & I won't be returning.
Good enough but not great. Portion sizes other than the burger was more tapas style. Not sure I would go back for any of the dishes. So many other better options in a foodie town like Montreal.
I have come here about 3-4 times a year for the last couple years when I am in town for work.
The cocktails. World class. Bites. World class. Service. World class.
I will never stop coming here.
Thank you so much. Every time I have come here I have left feeling like I received special treatment.
Leveled up Mediterranean food in relaxed, come as you are atmosphere. Don't skip dessert
Belle endroit pour prendre un verre. Bon service, drinks délicieux.
Had a nice evening with some friends on the terrace. I understand it was a busy Thursday evening, but I must say, the service was a little slow. Maybe having 1 extra waiter would have been perfect. However, waiters were courteous & warm.
As for the food, I had the vegan falafel plate (4 falafels, hummus, pickled onions, pickle & a large piece of bread). Although it was good, it was quite expensive ($25) for what is actually being served.
Atmosphere/vibes were pretty good; lots of people (in a good way) & the terrace was great (& surprisingly not that loud for such a busy street).
As for the drinks, I had a few neat whiskies & although they were good, they were served in a short tumbler glass. Quick recommendation to the bar: please serve your neat whiskies in a Glencairn glass instead.
I would be open to returning to this place. I think with a few adjustments, I could really enjoy this place much more.
First time here , will def be back. Served by the great AMY, she was helpful & kind. Good was great & great atmosphere.
