Would be one star if not for their brunch, which can be quite nice.
First time eating dinner here & wow, what a let down. The prices are outrageous, you can eat at some of the finest restaurants in Montreal for less.
The food was tasty, but was hard to enjoy given the poor service leading up to it. The restaurant was not even busy, but our cocktails took an hour to reach the table. The drinks we ordered with our food came when we were already done eating both courses.
I can't remember the last time a higher end restaurant charged for bread ($10), so you can imagine the disappointment when the bread was stale & unappetizing.
Overall, easily the top 3 worst Montreal restaurant experiences I've had in the last few years.View more
I visited Bar George about a week ago for our first dinner celebrating a dear friend's bachelorette weekend. The entire experience was amazing, & our server David was a dream! He took or drink & food orders seamlessly (for a party of 10) & was so attentive & knowledgeable. He truly made our dinner perfect. Highly recommend this place for a celebration dinner.View more
Firstly, it's a beautiful setting in an old mansion. We were greeted by a friendly hostess & seated promptly for our reservation. From here, things went downhill as we were ignored by waiter, Maxime, for 15-20 minutes, only for a brusque greeting of'do you want a drink' no apology for the delay. This ruined the experience out of the gate, & left us with little desire to spend additional time or money at this establishment.
The cocktail we ordered arrived with a good amount of foam spilled over the glass & down the side, leaving it a sticky mess.
In the amount of time it took to be served, receive our food, & be ignored by our waiter, I was able to write this entire review… Despite Maxime, being a blight on the entire evening, all other staff we dealt with were lovely, & the entrees (Beef Wellington & the Rigatoni) were flavorful & well prepared.View more
Good drinks, friendly staff, this is an old mansion beautifully restored.View more
I had an amazing dining experience! The food was exceptional; especially the Beef Wellington, which was perfectly cooked & full of flavor. Service was impressively fast, & our waiter Zachery was an absolute delight. He recommended the perfect dessert & was incredibly accommodating with my non-alcoholic drink requests. His friendly & attentive service really elevated the experience. Highly recommend this place, trust me, you won't be disappointed!View more
I mostly eat vegetarian, sometimes a little bit of chicken, so the food for me was somewhat limited. But I really enjoyed the vibe & the drinks. Would recommend Bar George to almost everyone. It's a pretty historic place & is a good time.View more
Absolutely wonderful restaurant & bar, especially if you like jazz. They serve delicious food & drinks, provide a lovely atmosphere with a beautiful interior, have very friendly staff & they play great music. Eating in the bar area to the lovely tunes of jazz classics accompanied by a tasty cocktail knocks this one out of the park. I ate lunch at Bar George right after peak lunch time so there was just the right amount of people there; not too few to make you feel alone but not to many to make it feel crowded, this amount of people is just right for a restaurant like this.View more
Beautiful carved wood walls & ceiling. Vibes are super cool BUT I would totally remodel the area in the back. If you know you know what area. The walls have a bland color & compared to the rest of the bar it doesn't really match with the rest… I would add a nice wallpaper like they have in the front lobby & more vintage lamps to keep the vibes similar.
Drinks are perfect, food is good!View more
Love this place. Great for business meetings over supper & drinks.
Closed a lot of business deals here.View more
2025: the Calabria & No time to die tasted suspiciously similar. The peargroni was smooth. Enjoyed the oysters.
June 2024: Isac's only fans was a great cocktail. Also enjoyed the coco-groni. Friendly helpful service.
2022 - Fourth time: came here for drinks. Friendly service. The espresso cocktail was great. The one with the Chambord was tasty. George's Shiva was all alcohol & not much flavour. Music was good but maybe too loud for a place with no dance floor.
Previous times: Great food & drinks. Intricate decor. Attentive service.View more
The ambience was very good, but the drink was not worth the cost.View more
Checked out the Bar George for dinner last night. The atmosphere & restaurant itself was really classy & nice. Not too noisy for being busy.
I would say for this price range of a restaurant the food was just okay. We had the beef wellington & the fillet mignon as mains. Steak was cooked perfectly but both dishes were slightly underwhelming in terms of taste. Presentation was good.
The service was also very slow due to how busy it was. We didn't get our first drinks until after the first starter showed up. As for drinks, I had the deluxe old fashioned & it was also not the best for such an expensive cocktail. A standard old fashioned would have been more enjoyable.
All in all, for the price range, there are much better restaurants in Montreal for both food & cocktails. If I was going to return it would just be for a drink at the bar.View more
Cute date spot for breakfast, dinner or drinks. Gorgeous rooms & friendly staff. As someone with celiac, the options are limited but the choices are still delicious & well portioned. Cross contamination is a risk but the server took the time to validate what could be done with the proper precautions.View more
Came here with a friend Saturday afternoon. Love it, food & drink are both good, not so many people, a great spot hanging out with friends.View more
Nice little hidden bar inside a luxury hotel, but with such an authentic charm you cannot miss paying a visit. Perfect for those freezing winter days, with perfect wood all over makes the perfect ambiance to be cozy & enjoy some drinks. I had a Bloody Caesar which was spicy, & flavorful & some oysters, which were local & fresh. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable & efficient. Perfect place for a shopping break!View more
We went in for late night cocktails. Service, drinks, & atmosphere were fabulous. Would definitely recommend.View more
The food & vibes were so so so good. The drinks were delicious. Go here knowing your getting a whole experience & take your time. We were a bit rushed only because we we were seeing a show after so it was our own fault but we'd totally go back & chill. We also got the caviar & that was absolutely delicious, creamy subtle & the staff was knowledgeable in letting us know how we should eat it. The service was amazing our sever was so friendly & understanding & helpful on letting us know about the menu. If you want fancy & vibey come here you will not regret it.View more
Got drinks. Service is meh. It's such a shame that they have such a great historical building & the original interiors feel like opulence, but the service & upkeep of the space is a huge letdown. The lounge section of the bar is not worth it. Same price for drinks but zero ambiance. Decor, seating arrangements & lighting feels cheap & easy; worlds away from the main room.View more
Thank you Jack for the great service & drinks reco !View more
Just had drinks & dessert but fun watching the crowd, bartenders friendly, the dessert was over the topView more
Very Nice place in Montreal. I prefered the bar area over the restaurant area. The Cocktails were good. I haven't been impressed by the food though. Might be because I took the tartare but didn't make me want to order more. My friend ordered something else & was happy with his choice. Service was nice! I recommend for a drink, in the bar section.View more
Drinks cost alot because they put alot of alcohol in there!View more
Went on here for the last night of my vacation, & I couldn't have picked a better spot. The bar is gorgeously constructed, the staff competent & kind, & the food & drinks were absolutely delicious. If I don't come back one day it's because I'm dead.View more
Bar George is a busy spot, even at 5pm on a very rainy Wednesday. Putting your name at the host stand & waiting in line is also somewhat convoluted as they assumed since I was speaking in English, my first language wasn't french & I could not understand the regulars that kept getting admitted no reservation before us, because they know somebody. Additionally, sitting at the bar, the drinks were great, but there were items missing from the list & that's always a faux-pas for me when you don't offer your full menu. The bar itself is gorgeous though, & the vibe is fantastic.View more
Great spot to grab a drink! Beautiful bar & buildingView more
The interior decor was well-crafted woodworking. Started at the bar & got good service as the bartender worked with the hostess to ensure a smooth move to the dining room-rolled the drinks into a single check. The ambiance in the dining room was even nicer. Such a soothing, quiet evening with my wife. The burrata & halibut were top-notch. Portions are only moderately-sized so our usual strategy of splitting an appetizer & an entree left me still a little hungry so I ordered some dessert named after a mountain in Switzerland that they set on fire before I got a chance to eat it. It was also delicious, but my wife only took one bite because she wanted to watch her figure. Unfortunately, it rained on our walk back to the hotel & my wife's hair got messed up, or so she claims. I didn't notice any difference in her hair.View more
Thursday night in August. Impressive entrance the crafts people who made this building would be famous today it is that gorgeous. Attached hotels seems like it might be cool. But as for our dinner: it was merely fine. I'm putting photographs of what we ate. Lost the one of the beef Wellington, which my partner said was really good. Our server had far too many tables for one individual to adequately help. Well, I had to return my club soda for being flat after waiting 10 minutes to get a drink, it was a little frustrating. The lime was so dry & had literally no juice. He mentioned that the green beans were not delicious & he offered to take it off the bill, which I didn't expect so that was very nice. It probably saved his tip! All in all worth it to visit for a drink. Not the culinary adventure we enjoy.View more
