I was recently in Montréal to record some new music &, before arriving, I had already scoped out Bar George as a possible dinner spot. On one of my morning walks - my favorite way to clear my head & find inspiration - I passed by the restaurant & was immediately struck by the stunning building it's housed in: the historic Le Mount Stephen Hotel. It blends old-world charm with modern elegance in the best way.
That evening, I returned for dinner with a friend, & from the moment we stepped in, the staff made us feel right at home. The menu was creative & inviting, the decor a bold & beautiful mix of British tradition with a distinctly Quebecois flair - & the food? Absolutely next-level. Every dish was a standout.
Bar George isn't just a meal; it's an experience - one I'd recommend to anyone visiting Montréal. First class all around.

Visited Bar George for lunch, drawn in by its elegant, chic atmosphere & appealingly simple menu. The interior is stunning richly decorated with that classic'old money' vibe that makes the whole experience feel elevated.
We sat at the bar & ordered the Hamburger & Butler Steak. While there was a bit of a wait, both dishes were absolutely worth it. Everything looked, smelled, & tasted fantastic. The burger was delicious, though the bun could've held up better-but that didn't take away from how much we enjoyed it.
Service was top-notch. Huge thanks to Jonathan at the bar for the complimentary espresso such a nice touch!

I visited Bar George about a week ago for our first dinner celebrating a dear friend's bachelorette weekend. The entire experience was amazing, & our server David was a dream! He took or drink & food orders seamlessly (for a party of 10) & was so attentive & knowledgeable. He truly made our dinner perfect. Highly recommend this place for a celebration dinner.View more

Bar George is one of those rare places… In all cities wherever I am in the world, I think of Bar George as the high bar. Can other places exceed it? With great difficulty. Most fall short. I mostly eat vegetarian, sometimes a little bit of chicken, so the food for me was somewhat limited. But I really enjoyed the vibe & the drinks. Would recommend Bar George to almost everyone. It's a pretty historic place & is a good time.View more

Absolutely wonderful restaurant & bar, especially if you like jazz. They serve delicious food & drinks, provide a lovely atmosphere with a beautiful interior, have very friendly staff & they play great music. Eating in the bar area to the lovely tunes of jazz classics accompanied by a tasty cocktail knocks this one out of the park. I ate lunch at Bar George right after peak lunch time so there was just the right amount of people there; not too few to make you feel alone but not to many to make it feel crowded, this amount of people is just right for a restaurant like this.View more

Beautiful carved wood walls & ceiling. Vibes are super cool BUT I would totally remodel the area in the back. If you know you know what area. The walls have a bland color & compared to the rest of the bar it doesn't really match with the rest… I would add a nice wallpaper like they have in the front lobby & more vintage lamps to keep the vibes similar.

During our Montréal trip, we went to Bar George for a date night. It's such a beautiful spot with stunning decor. When we walked through the front doors, even though we had a reservation, we still had to line up with everyone else. A lot of people were lining up for the bar section near the entrance, & there was also a wedding happening upstairs, which made things a bit busier than usual.
We were booked in the dining area, which is located in a second room past the bar. We had to wait a while before someone helped us, & the arrangement at the entrance felt a little chaotic. I can't say the initial experience standing in line was great. However, once we got seated, the dining room itself was absolutely beautiful.
The vibe at the entrance felt more like a lively bar or party scene, while the dining area was much more refined & relaxed - an interesting contrast.
Once at our table, the service was fantastic. Our host was very attentive & gave us great food recommendations. We started with the mussels, which were fresh & delicious. My husband ordered the risotto, but when our food arrived, he was mistakenly served the gnocchi. The staff quickly caught the error & brought him the risotto, which he fully enjoyed.
I had the beef Wellington dish, & it was perfect - not a huge portion, but just the right amount, rich & full of flavor. We ended the night with a yummy dessert, though I can't quite remember which one it was, but I remember thoroughly enjoying it.
One thing I have to add: our bill ended up being just under $500, which, to be honest, felt way too high for a casual evening out. Even though the food was good, I can't really justify spending that much, & it definitely took away a bit from the overall experience for me. I left feeling like it just wasn't quite worth that price.View more

Checked out the Bar George for dinner last night. The atmosphere & restaurant itself was really classy & nice. Not too noisy for being busy.
I would say for this price range of a restaurant the food was just okay. We had the beef wellington & the fillet mignon as mains. Steak was cooked perfectly but both dishes were slightly underwhelming in terms of taste. Presentation was good.
The service was also very slow due to how busy it was. We didn't get our first drinks until after the first starter showed up. As for drinks, I had the deluxe old fashioned & it was also not the best for such an expensive cocktail. A standard old fashioned would have been more enjoyable.
All in all, for the price range, there are much better restaurants in Montreal for both food & cocktails. If I was going to return it would just be for a drink at the bar.View more

Went to Bar George to try their famous brunch & to celebrate a friend's birthday. Although the table is too small for the big brunch plates, the waiter found a way to make it comfy & spacious enough to hold our coffee & side orders. Food is good, though its not what I expected for the price we pay. But the overall feel, the ambiance & the aesthetics of the place is already a plus factor in choosing this resto as an ultimate brunch place. I would recommend? J'ai totalement apprécié mon expérience. Premièrement des mon entrée dans le bar j'ai été surpris par la beauté architecturale intérieur. C'est vraiment beau de voir tous les détails dans le bois. Ensuite, le service est parfait, très belle équipe & tous le monde est professionnel. Ensuite, ouf le bouffe est succulente, j'ai choisi le steak Wellington qui était fantastique. Tout était gouteux & excellent. Nous avons terminé le souper au bar qui mérite d'être vu, encore une fois tout est beau, la musique est bonne & l'ambiance est parfaite. Si vous avez la chance d'aller au deuxième allez y sans hésiter.

Strong service experience from the reception & the efficient coat check.
The dining rooms are amazing; an architectural jewel. Sommelier is excellent with his recommendations. Service is prompt & efficient (thanks Kevin) with just some lag at the end.
The burrata & courge appetizer was deliciously creamy.
I was disappointed by the excessively salty lobster risotto & the lack of fluff in the puff pastry of the beef wellington with slightly chewy filet mignon.
We also had a chance to visit the adjacent hotel (thanks Zacharie!) & would highly recommend a stay here.
Older: Corporate event in the hotel. Cocktails were decent, but the presentation room was not as nice as the actual bar which looked amazing.View more

Nice little hidden bar inside a luxury hotel, but with such an authentic charm you cannot miss paying a visit. Perfect for those freezing winter days, with perfect wood all over makes the perfect ambiance to be cozy & enjoy some drinks. On a mis les pieds au Bar George récemment, & dès qu'on est entrés, on a senti qu'on était dans un endroit vraiment spécial. Du plancher au plafond, chaque détail du décor est pensé pour créer une atmosphère à la fois chic & chaleureuse. Les boiseries, les lustres & les touches de décoration ancienne donnent un cachet unique, presque royal, qui invite à s'installer & à profiter du moment. Côté ambiance, c'est magnifique, confortable & très accueillant. On se sent transportés dans une autre époque, sans pour autant perdre le côté convivial qu'on aime tant au Québec. Le service est au même niveau que le décor: impeccable. Le personnel est souriant, à l'écoute & prêt à faire de bonnes suggestions. On a d'ailleurs suivi la recommandation de notre serveuse pour un vin blanc qui s'est avéré délicieux. En accompagnement, on a commandé les "Devils on horseback", un plat surprenant mêlant bacon, amandes, prunes, foie fouetté & sauce Réforme. Honnêtement, c'était un pur régal! Entre l'ambiance feutrée, la grande classe des lieux & le service irréprochable, on peut dire que Bar George sait comment choyer ses clients. Got drinks. Service is meh. It's such a shame that they have such a great historical building & the original interiors feel like opulence, but the service & upkeep of the space is a huge letdown. The lounge section of the bar is not worth it. Same price for drinks but zero ambiance. Decor, seating arrangements & lighting feels cheap & easy; worlds away from the main room.View more

I have travelled to many places, I came to this place to try the beef Wellington, as I have tried the one at Hells Kitchen in Las Vegas & was curious about the one here at Bar George, people have told me it is better. The beef Wellington at Bar George was excellent & in my opinion much better in flavour, loved it. Had the Burger, was dry a little, truffle mashed was to watery for me, waiter was amazing & top notch. I gave four star because, they were short staff, as staff was sick, so took two hours for dinner & an app, nothing you can do, but when you are going spend minimum over $150 a person plus, they should let you now up front it will be a little slow for your food. This way if you have to make it somewhere else, you are prepared . Again, you most go & have the Beef Wellington, it is unreal & I hate when people leave bullshit reviews, this is hundred percent review, I will go again & have dinner hundred percent, only suggestion is , let your customers know if service is behind, doesn't take much, thank you for the great server ( Julien ) & the Beef Wellington.View more
