Nice location. The beef wellington & the dessert were very good (the starter : octupuss carpaccio was disappointing). The cocktail at 30$ was excessively expensive. Overall a good experience, but too expensive for what it is.View more

Firstly, it's a beautiful setting in an old mansion. We were greeted by a friendly hostess & seated promptly for our reservation. From here, things went downhill as we were ignored by waiter, Maxime, for 15-20 minutes, only for a brusque greeting of'do you want a drink' no apology for the delay. This ruined the experience out of the gate, & left us with little desire to spend additional time or money at this establishment.

The cocktail we ordered arrived with a good amount of foam spilled over the glass & down the side, leaving it a sticky mess.

In the amount of time it took to be served, receive our food, & be ignored by our waiter, I was able to write this entire review… Despite Maxime, being a blight on the entire evening, all other staff we dealt with were lovely, & the entrees (Beef Wellington & the Rigatoni) were flavorful & well prepared.View more

I had an amazing dining experience! The food was exceptional; especially the Beef Wellington, which was perfectly cooked & full of flavor. Service was impressively fast, & our waiter Zachery was an absolute delight. He recommended the perfect dessert & was incredibly accommodating with my non-alcoholic drink requests. His friendly & attentive service really elevated the experience. Highly recommend this place, trust me, you won't be disappointed!View more

During our Montréal trip, we went to Bar George for a date night. It's such a beautiful spot with stunning decor. When we walked through the front doors, even though we had a reservation, we still had to line up with everyone else. A lot of people were lining up for the bar section near the entrance, & there was also a wedding happening upstairs, which made things a bit busier than usual.

We were booked in the dining area, which is located in a second room past the bar. We had to wait a while before someone helped us, & the arrangement at the entrance felt a little chaotic. I can't say the initial experience standing in line was great. However, once we got seated, the dining room itself was absolutely beautiful.

The vibe at the entrance felt more like a lively bar or party scene, while the dining area was much more refined & relaxed - an interesting contrast.

Once at our table, the service was fantastic. Our host was very attentive & gave us great food recommendations. We started with the mussels, which were fresh & delicious. My husband ordered the risotto, but when our food arrived, he was mistakenly served the gnocchi. The staff quickly caught the error & brought him the risotto, which he fully enjoyed.

I had the beef Wellington dish, & it was perfect - not a huge portion, but just the right amount, rich & full of flavor. We ended the night with a yummy dessert, though I can't quite remember which one it was, but I remember thoroughly enjoying it.

One thing I have to add: our bill ended up being just under $500, which, to be honest, felt way too high for a casual evening out. Even though the food was good, I can't really justify spending that much, & it definitely took away a bit from the overall experience for me. I left feeling like it just wasn't quite worth that price.View more

Checked out the Bar George for dinner last night. The atmosphere & restaurant itself was really classy & nice. Not too noisy for being busy.

I would say for this price range of a restaurant the food was just okay. We had the beef wellington & the fillet mignon as mains. Steak was cooked perfectly but both dishes were slightly underwhelming in terms of taste. Presentation was good.

The service was also very slow due to how busy it was. We didn't get our first drinks until after the first starter showed up. As for drinks, I had the deluxe old fashioned & it was also not the best for such an expensive cocktail. A standard old fashioned would have been more enjoyable.

All in all, for the price range, there are much better restaurants in Montreal for both food & cocktails. If I was going to return it would just be for a drink at the bar.View more

Strong service experience from the reception & the efficient coat check.

The dining rooms are amazing; an architectural jewel. Sommelier is excellent with his recommendations. Service is prompt & efficient (thanks Kevin) with just some lag at the end.

The burrata & courge appetizer was deliciously creamy.

I was disappointed by the excessively salty lobster risotto & the lack of fluff in the puff pastry of the beef wellington with slightly chewy filet mignon.

We also had a chance to visit the adjacent hotel (thanks Zacharie!) & would highly recommend a stay here.

Older: Corporate event in the hotel. Cocktails were decent, but the presentation room was not as nice as the actual bar which looked amazing.View more

I have travelled to many places, I came to this place to try the beef Wellington, as I have tried the one at Hells Kitchen in Las Vegas & was curious about the one here at Bar George, people have told me it is better. The beef Wellington at Bar George was excellent & in my opinion much better in flavour, loved it. Had the Burger, was dry a little, truffle mashed was to watery for me, waiter was amazing & top notch. I gave four star because, they were short staff, as staff was sick, so took two hours for dinner & an app, nothing you can do, but when you are going spend minimum over $150 a person plus, they should let you now up front it will be a little slow for your food. This way if you have to make it somewhere else, you are prepared . Again, you most go & have the Beef Wellington, it is unreal & I hate when people leave bullshit reviews, this is hundred percent review, I will go again & have dinner hundred percent, only suggestion is , let your customers know if service is behind, doesn't take much, thank you for the great server ( Julien ) & the Beef Wellington.View more

We arrived early & decided to enjoy the bar first. We received excellent service from a knowledgeable & personable bartender. Afterward, we moved to the dining area for dinner, equally pleased with the service & ambiance. The beef Wellington, snooki, & chicken dinners are highly recommended; you won't be disappointed. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. We highly recommend this establishment.View more

I went here for the first time to celebrate my birthday alone & was so impressed by the ambiance & the kind attentive service! BUT, I've NEVER had a beef bourguignon that DRY before. No joke almost choked & had to take sips of water after every bite of beef. Not only that but it was way too salty! I was expecting the food to be as immaculate as the atmosphere. When the waiter asked if I liked it I was too shy to say my actual opinion. I got a free birthday cake though that was very delicious just a bit too sweet for me at the end. But I really appreciated that for my birthday so thank you to the chefI also had the Burrata with heirloom tomatoes & that was very good. I will come back to try the beef wellington one day as I heard it can be very good.View more

UPDATE: came back a second time & am just as impressed! The pavlova was divine I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was (I had a beef tartare & pasta sauce). The service was excellent, going above & beyond to take into consideration my allergies & even sharing some tips on how to recreate the same meal at home. Would recommend in a heart beat!View more

Went for dinner with my husband & it was such an amazing experience. The place itself is breathtaking, with a detailed handcrafted interior design, wooden sculpted wall panels & elegant chandeliers. The service is excellent, our waiter was very attentive & offered impeccable service during the entire evening. The food is beautifully presented, & each dish we ordered was a great culinary experience. The beef wellington was like a piece of art with vibrant colors surrounding the beef slices. As for the dessert, we ordered the monochrome, & I can safely say that it was probably one of the best desserts I've ever had. Each little piece is a combination of several layers of biscuit, mousse & other ingredients that blend perfectly well together as well as with the delicious ice cream accompanying it. Highly recommend this place for fine dining, such an experience!View more

The architecture of this restaurant was beautiful. The customer service was also good. However, we did not leave feeling satisfied with food given the high price tag. The beet salad & the chocolate dessert were excellent. However, our mains, the Beef Wellington & Chicken Roulade did not live up to our expectations. The beef Wellington by itself was nothing special, & it relied on the fancy colourful sauces to add flavour. It was not worth the price. The Chicken Roulade was ok, but not worth the money.View more

Bar George is really fancy & the food is delicious & extremely rich. It is in a really cool hotel & the decor is exquisite. They have the best beef Wellington that I have ever had in my life because it is unique & has a lot of ingredients that I really appreciated, such as a ground up mushroom paste of some kind that was inside the pastry. They also have a fine selection of wine.View more

Thursday night in August. Impressive entrance the crafts people who made this building would be famous today it is that gorgeous. Attached hotels seems like it might be cool. But as for our dinner: it was merely fine. I'm putting photographs of what we ate. Lost the one of the beef Wellington, which my partner said was really good. Our server had far too many tables for one individual to adequately help. Well, I had to return my club soda for being flat after waiting 10 minutes to get a drink, it was a little frustrating. The lime was so dry & had literally no juice. He mentioned that the green beans were not delicious & he offered to take it off the bill, which I didn't expect so that was very nice. It probably saved his tip! All in all worth it to visit for a drink. Not the culinary adventure we enjoy.View more

I had the best beef Wellington of my life at Bar George this past week. I was in town for a few days from out west & I was conveniently located. The decor of the bar is great. & the bartender, I think he had a shaved head, he was a good guy to me. I liked him. I will go so far as to say this whole experience was one of the highlights of my trip to Montreal.View more

During my visit to Montreal for the Solar Eclipse, I had the chance to eat at Bar George, set in a historic building that feels like stepping back into the 19th century with its decor & vibe. The place has a warm & nostalgic feel, making it a really cool spot to dine. We ordered the Beef Wellington & the lobster risotto, both of which were standout dishes. The Beef Wellington was exceptional, perfectly cooked with flavorful mushrooms enveloped in the pastry, & served alongside sweet potato purée & peppercorn sauce. Although it was my first time trying Beef Wellington, it impressed me greatly & set a high standard. However, I discovered that my favorite cut of steak isn't typically used in Beef Wellington, so this might be my one & only experience with it-likely remaining unbeaten at the top of my list. The lobster risotto was equally remarkable. The risotto was perfectly cooked to a creamy consistency, neither too runny nor too stiff, which really allowed the flavors to shine. It was topped with four generous pieces of lobster claw meat, making each spoonful a luxurious treat. The lobster was fresh & cooked just right, providing a succulent contrast to the rich, creamy rice. The balance of flavors & textures made this dish a memorable part of our meal. The total came to almost 200 CAD (including tip), but given the quality of the food & the unique setting, it was totally worth it.View more

Excellent spot to indulge in contemporary British dishes within the charming setting of a historic building. Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant wasn't too busy, so we were able to get seated at the cozy couches near the fireplace. The interior beautifully preserved the classic ambiance of a century-old mansion, while the menu offered a modern take on British cuisine with a Québécois twist. Although there was a set course menu available, we chose to order from the regular à la carte selection, as it looked more appealing. Naturally, we began our meal with a half dozen of fresh Canadian oysters. Although similar to the briny oysters I'm used to in New England, these had a slightly creamier texture. The Hamachi Crudo followed, & these fatty hamachi slices were perfectly complemented by sweet & tangy toppings. However, our favorite from the starters was the Burrata & Sunchoke. The roasted sunchokes provided a delightful crispiness, complemented by the mild sweetness of butternut purée & the earthy tones of the greens, & each bite was rich & satisfying. For our entrées, we chose the Linguine Vongole, Beef Brochette, & the Mushroom Confit. The Vongole didn't have a prominent seafood aroma, but the parsley & chili-infused crusts added depth to the pasta. The Beef Brochette was somewhat plain in comparison, but the malt mayo & chips combo was quite addicting. The standout was undoubtedly the Mushroom Confit. This "cake" layered with three types of mushrooms delivered a masterful blend of umami, tanginess, & earthy flavors. The pickled Shimeji mushrooms, in particular, brought an exciting burst of flavor that enhanced the overall dish. Although the dishes we selected lacked "British" elements, we were pleased with our overall dining experience. I highly recommend visiting for lunch or brunch-you won't be disappointed.View more

Had an amazing night at Bar George. If you're from the South, say hi to the guy Jalen from Georgia at the front. Solid dude. Plan on dropping some cash & not regretting it. Our server Kevin was fantastic. He loves to talk about the menu like I love to hear about it. Couldn't ask for a better atmosphere. Every dish was right on point. Also, I'm batting 1,000 on being right about ordering fries at fancy restaurants. Cocktails, oysters, buratta with sunchokes, mushroom soup, fries, lobster risotto, Beef Wellington, Mont Blanc (nice light show), & intense chocolate.....every plate cleaned. Finish with an Irish coffee to be able to get out of there!View more
