Review Summary

Many reviews describe Amigo Restaurant as a cozy, unpretentious spot with quick, friendly service and generous portions. The salt and pepper pork chops are repeatedly singled out as a standout, along with other staples like salt and pepper shrimp and beef dishes. Prices are praised as affordable for the size of the servings, making it easy to feed a crowd or enjoy a hearty meal without breaking the bank. Ambience is noted as calm and family friendly, with some mentioning a fish tank and a homey feel rather than fancy decor. Some reviews flag inconsistencies, such as a General Tao that was less satisfying, occasional undercooked components, or changes in quality over time. A few readers report a confusing or unwanted tipping practice on takeout and some billing issues that warrant double checking. Overall, Amigo Restaurant is viewed as a hidden gem for affordable Chinese style fare, especially for those seeking large portions and reliable comfort food, with a preference to return for the pork chops and other favorites.

I've been here so many times over the last eight years, have brought my entire school class & most of my family & friends, just because it is such a gem of a restaurant. The plates are delicious & perfect for sharing, not expensive either. It's familiar faces & dishes, warm tea & unmatched flavours.
To the next time!

They are decently priced & their portions are huge! Loved their salt & pepper calamari & sesame beef. The service was good. It's a bit difficult to find the place if you aren't looking for it, I almost missed it but it's definitely a hidden gem! Close to the subway too. Will be coming back!

A hidden gem with the most cheap price you can find in 2024. It's about 10-14$, you won't find that anywhere anymore. &, it's so good. If you compare the mayo chicken shrimp with some other spot, it's different but good in its own way.

Friendly people & a wonderful spot for lunch! How do you beat 9.50 for a lunch special, with added spring roll & soup, in Montreal? As out of towners, we love finding gems like this place & will return when we're back in your city. Try the beef chow mein & won ton soup. You won't be disappointed!

Hidden Gem. It's lowkey, but great food & super affordable prices! I come here quite often, & I LOVE their signature salt & pepper pork chops ! It's casual atmosphere. Once we were a group of 7 & I paid less than 100$ for the shared meals & we were quite full at the end of the supper. That's crazy! 10/10 ✨️

Been here twice with different sizes of parties & both times were excellent. Both parties unanimously agreed that this is the best salt & pepper place in Montreal & we will be frequenting again. Serving portions were big & greatly priced. Both the lady & gentleman serving us both times were friendly & kind & gave us good recommendations. Gem of a place.

Felt like having quick Cantonese dinner, found this gem in Chinatown, after checking out the menu, we order young chow fried rice, the portion was good however the taste wasn't flavorful enough. Not salty enough & missing eggs & wok fire tasting (wok hay). Besides that only one waiter running the show, he was efficient & quick. Over all we ordered their two must order dishes, salt & pepper fried pork chops & chicken n shrimp with mayo sauce. Both dish was pretty decent, the portion to the pork chop was huge! Consumer Price index was over the chart! They must had 13 to 14 pieces of pork chops for under 14 cad. That is really good value! Besides that we ordered garlic stir fried buk choy, & bitter melon with black bean beef which was off the menu. Over all was great dinner with plenty of left over pork chops. I think we had like 7 pieces left. Will be back to this place when we are ever back to Montreal again.

Picture this, you're walking the night streets of Montreal Chinatown wondering what's still open. You come across this door with a staircase that leads upstairs & an Aquarium. You decide, "why not?", lets give this place a try. You walk up & are greeted by the waiter. You ask him why the place is called "Amigo", & he replies "well aren't we friends". & he's right, the moment you walk in, that's how you feel, like friends. Looking at the menu, there's a bunch of hidden little gems to cure your cravings. After having visited my Amigo a few times, I can tell you right now that the two things you guys should try is the Hot Sale (porkchop), & the Chicken Mayo. That stuff is absolutely bussin fr. best spot in chinatown hands town, i won't even let someone debate me on this. if you think i'm wrong you're delusional af thanks!!!!
