Amea, located in the former Alcan building on Sherbrooke, is a surprisingly large yet intimate resto-café offering expanded selection of pastries & sandwiches for weekday breakfasts & lunch, as well as an excellent selection of premium coffees. On weekends there is an expanded brunch menu with a variety of hot dishes.
For our meals we chose Mushroom Avocado open face sandwich (very good), the Shakshuka (very good, a little on the runny side but with lots of fresh herbs...a interesting take but still good), & the Avocado Pomodoro open face sandwich (also very good...lots of tomatoes!). The coffee options are extensive & I had an excellent Americano.
Ordering is done at the counter (somewhat like a cafeteria style), after which a table number is provided to you & then you sit at any available table you like. There are a large number of tables as well as several two-person "shelters" (a banquet style table with a roof) to which the meal is brought to you. Overall a nice albeit somewhat busy place to have a brunch or quick meal. Enjoy!
I ordered a Shakshouka dish for $20 + tax, what I received was not Shakshouka at all! It was like a watery tomato paste with soma withered vegetables & soft-boiled eggs in it. Totally dissatisfied. Wanted to talk to manager but have been told that the manager is not available! Was about to give only one star, but the coffee was good though.
Not recommended for brunch.
Stopped to grab a bite & coffee after a walk on Mt-Royal. Super cute, great vibes. The brunch menu looked delicious & reasonably priced with various options. We had an iced latte, an iced blue matcha, & a DELICIOUS pistachio croissant stuffed with strawberries & rhubarb (OMG!!) Coming back to try the other flavours 😋
Been here twice!
The service is a bit slow when it gets crowded.
The coffee is good but I like the ambiance the most!
I had the beef tartare. It was extremely small & the raw egg yolk had a weird hard consistency. You're also expected to leave a 15% tip (prompted automatically on the paying machine), for drinks you have to go get yourself?
Great location for quiet time or a business meeting. Great choice of drinks, pastries, & lunch.
I found the round croissant pastries overrated but their other croissants were soooo good. I would come back for more. The almond & blueberry one is delicious.
Their coffees are also very good.
It is worth to also pass by to spend some time in their beautiful space.
Overall great experience!
