Review Summary

Améa Café is widely celebrated for its stunning architectural design, spacious atmosphere, and vibrant, cozy energy that makes it a popular destination for working, studying, or socializing. While the overall ambiance and visual presentation of the Mediterranean-inspired menu receive high praise, experiences with food and service quality can be inconsistent. Many visitors rave about the delicious pastries, unique desserts, and flavorful brunch items like the shakshouka, though some have noted concerns regarding portion sizes, pricing, and occasional service delays or communication issues during busy periods. Despite being a bustling hotspot that can get quite noisy, most customers consider it a must-visit location in downtown Montreal and appreciate the variety of fresh food and beverage options available throughout the day.

Cute but spacious coffee shop with a nice atmosphere overall. I originally ordered the smoked salmon & eggs on sourdough, but after a while I was informed that they had run out of salmon, so I had to choose another dish. I ended up ordering the mushrooms & eggs, which turned out to be very tasty & enjoyable. Despite the change in my order, I had a pleasant experience.

I definitely not recommend you to come to this coffe. Mc do have a better service than this place.
I will never come back with any family or clients.
The manager & chefs are good & really nice but the coffee station act like they are working at Prada'mean girls', definitely not Comming back for them. They asked me twice why I wanted to change my coffe for a cup to go, because I don't finish it ? Why I need to explain a simple thing like this? & when I asked for no caffein tea, they offered me something that they don't even have in the menu, why ? They make me change the drink because they don't have it. You need to know your menu & your stock.

The dessert & ambiance is the best. But the food during lunch is really not that good.
But then again, the place itself makes up for the food.

Have a coffee & a croissant stuffed with strawberries jam & you'll be hooked :)

I cannot believe it hit the mark on all counts: the desserts, coffee, ambiance, service.

Truly a luxury experience.

Updated review: I retuned & ordered a pesto brie-chicken sandwich with a side of salad.
I cannot believe how bad it is.
The chicken was pre-cooked. I would not expect a $17 sandwich to have pre-cooked chicken. I expected to be grilled upon order. This is cutting corners - & customers catch on.

The chicken was as a bland as can be & was like leather. The combination of pungent Brie & bland chicken does not work & the texture of the melted Brie is gross & slimy. I have never seen melted Brie anywhere else.

Even the pesto was super bland. I don't know how it's possible to get the pesto wrong. Pesto is supposed be full of flavour.

The focaccia is equally like leather. & the sandwich was not even warm.
The salad is so stale & the vinaigrette is super bland.

Overall, way too greasy & utterly flavourless & lukewarm & chewing on leather.

It's insulting that they should serve this to anyone. Do they eat their own food?

Good food & a great vibe. The only downside is the coffee.

If you order from the brunch menu, be aware that they serve the coffee immediately after you order, but the food arrives much later, which means your coffee gets cold before you can enjoy it with your meal.

mea Café is one of those polished, design-forward café-restaurants that leans more toward a'high-end cafeteria' than a traditional coffee shop. Located inside the historic Maison Alcan, the space is a standout: large, bright, with high ceilings & a refined, almost architectural feel.

The food is Mediterranean-inspired, with a menu that goes beyond pastries-Roman-style pizzas, salads, vegetable dishes, & brunch plates. Execution is generally strong, with good ingredient quality & clean presentation. Pastries & desserts are a highlight, although consistency can vary depending on the item.

Service is casual (order at the counter, food brought to table), & the place is clearly optimized for a mix of use cases: quick lunch, informal meetings, or working sessions.

My go-to place for coffee & relaxation time in Montréal. J'adore la variété de l'endroit. You can make it looks like a new place every time by sitting in a different area 🥰🧡
