Service was great, friendly & attentive. Food was great & it's BYOW! We brought our 90-year old mother & she loved it. She had never eaten Indian food Before. I would highly recommend this restaurant!View more
Absolutely exceptional Indian cuisine. The prices already include the tip which is a nice bonus (& kudos to the owners on that move). Not only is the food fantastic but the ambience of the place is both welcoming & higher end without feeling snobby. Just a fabulous experience all around.
We've ordered butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, naan bread, samosas, kanda baji, & a chickpea salad. Every dish was better than the last & we had enough leftovers to last another 2 meals.View more
We showed up right at 5PM for their weekday happy hour deal: order any main & get 50% off appetizers & drinks. For real, that kind of deal in Montreal feels like a unicorn. Bonus? It's BYOB! Bring your favorite bottle or try their mocktails-surprisingly bold & worth it.
Mocktail highlights:
🍍 Ginger Pineapple Fusion - Bright, zesty, & just the right kick.
🥭 Mango Virgin Mojito - Sweet, tropical, & super refreshing. Perfect sidekick to all the spicy bites.
What we ate (& loved):
🥟 Chana Samosa - My MVP appetizer. Think crispy samosas loaded with spiced chickpeas, yogurt, & tangy chutneys. Like Indian nachos, but better.
🫓 Keema Naan - Fluffy naan stuffed with spiced ground meat. Tasty, but I'd ask if they could make it spicy next time!
🫓 Cheese Naan - Fluffy naan with cheese inside
🫓 Garlic Naan - Delicious with the butter chicken 🤤
🍗 Chicken Pakoras - Crispy, juicy, would love a little hot sauce with it.
🥗 Paneer, Tomato & Mango Salad - Gorgeous & fresh but a bit mild flavor wise. Wanted a bit of crunch or spice to round it out.
Main dishes = full flavor mode:
🍛 Butter Chicken - Creamy, rich, & total comfort food goals.
🍤 Shrimp Karahi - Light, flavorful, & packed with peppers & onions.
🍖 Lamb Biryani - Fragrant rice, tender lamb, & cozy spice. Everything you want in a biryani.
🔥 Mixed Grill Platter - All the tikka you could want-chicken, lamb, malai, & seekh kababs. Juicy & sizzling. Perfect for sharing (or not).
Sweet ending:
🍮 Cardamom Crème Brûlée - Dreamy custard with a toasty caramel top & that warm cardamom hug.
The vibe? Cozy, colorful, & full of personality. The staff handled our giant order & many questions with patience & smiles. This spot is perfect for date night, squad dinner, or spoiling yourself midweek.
💡 Foxy Tip: Bring a bottle, ask for extra spice if that's your vibe, & don't skip the chana samosa.

Visited as part of a social media collaboration. This review reflects my honest experience.View more
Overall, a very good restaurant! I don't know of another indian/pakistani restaurant that has a nice decor & trendy vibe, is solid in food, & is a BYOB. Service was slightly shaky as they had a big night with two large (& very loud) groups to serve, but I will return for sure & I recommend it.View more
I recently visited Amber Restaurant & had an amazing experience. The chicken tikka masala was rich & flavorful, with just the right level of spice that didn't overpower the dish. The naan was soft & perfectly paired with the curry. The staff was attentive, & they made great recommendations when I wasn't sure what to order. The atmosphere was lively, with traditional Indian music setting a cozy vibe. I found the prices to be reasonable for the quality & portion sizes. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves authentic Indian cuisine.View more
This BYOW spot is a real hidden gem. The prices are fair, the food is always great, & the service is super friendly. The lunch special is a must-try-an Indian naan sandwich with fries & a drink. It's filling, & even with tip included, it's still really cheap!View more
We're from Afghanistan, but today we decided to try an Indian restaurant, & we chose Amber for dinner. It was amazing! I tried the shrimp biryani, butter chicken, beef kebab masala, & garlic naan - everything was delicious. Wallah, it was fantastic! The owner, Hafsa, was so sweet & provided excellent service. Highly recommendView more
It's a nice place with ambience & good service. The food however lacked spices & rich flavors. I was surprised given the rave reviews. We tried various appetizers & dishes with lamb, beef, paneer in different sauces. I do love Indian food & have been to great Indian places so maybe my expectations are unfair.View more
Great place to chill with friends & have your own wine. Food was good but not authentic Indian or Pakistani. But must try once. Server where nice & friendly.View more
A bit disappointed by the food & service here. We were looking for an Indian bring your own wine with good atmosphere for our anniversary. When we made a reservation & said it was our anniversary, they sounded excited to plan something for us. Unfortunately when we got there, there was nothing special done & the food was very average. Many of the dishes lacked flavour & we could have had a much tastier & cheaper meal elsewhere. The Chana masala was not good. We had to chase after our server to get water & then our bill (based on other reviews, I can only assume this is not normal for them & that it could have been their way of giving us our own space on our anniversary). We had fun because we were together but we won't be going back.View more
This is the most white people Indian food I've ever had. I'm talking'Midwestern retired boomer with a house on Florida' white. Absolutely no flavour, no complexity, no spice. Hospital food. The presentation is good, but the pictures for the lunch menu lie to you as they show the main dish being the larger plate, while on delivery it's on the smaller side, way smaller than the rice. So, it's basically a side dish. I'm not complaining about the spiciness levels, I understand why it would be mid being in Canada, I prefer mid personally too. But, Indian food is not about the hotness, but the complex flavours, mixing & elevating each other in the curry. There was none of that. It was like a tomato soup but even that is acidic. I could not taste any of the spices, where was the cardamom, where was the turmeric? I tried two curries, couldn't tell them apart. No depth at all. I feel like getting a COVID test after eating there, just in case it's me. The vegetable side dishes were overall better than the main dish. The naan was fine, but a bit undercooked. Never coming back.View more
UPDATE: It has been many years & many more visits to Amber since I wrote my original review (below)... & still I feel compelled to add that Amber is more than a spectacular Indian/Pakistani restaurant. It is more than its fantastic food. Amber is... well... a (& yes, I know how silly this sounds... *smile*) a happiness experience! The staff, the decor, the insanely perfect food... Again we left the restaurant so content &... happy! ❣️ ORIGINAL: We "tried" to walk by this restaurant on our way home last week, but the food, the spicey smells, forced me back to the open window. We made a reservation for last Saturday night &... wow... Perfection. There are a lot of Indian restaurants in this area, but the quality & flavours &... everything here excelled. The one other bonus? The staff. They too were the best! Thanks to you Amber for a really great evening! See you again soon! *************************************** Seven months later, &... OMG!!! We have been traveling, &... We finally went again!! For the umpteenth time!! *smile* This time? Still amazing! I was a volunteer in Himachal Pradesh, & had the amazingly good fortune to (literally) live on Auntiji's incredible cooking. So, needless to say, I am incredibly spoiled... But Amber? It absolutely blew me away again... AGAIN! This is fabulous Indian cuisine. Seriously fabulous. The ONLY thing to come close to rivaling the food is the service. The staff are so wonder-full... I've been so fortunate as to have travelled in India a few times, & still... Amber is a "how do I stop myself from going there again?" restaurant. Seriously check it out. You will not be sorry! *smile*View more
Great Indian restaurant with big portions. They have bring your own wine concept, it's a great restaurant for celebrations as well. Ask a smiley waitress for suggestions of the food. :)View more
Ate there recently, the food is amazing, as a big fan of Indian food, this place didn't disappoint at all. I got the chicken tikka masala, with rice & got naan as well, while my family took the menu, with a whole lot of different kinds of food & we all loved it.View more
Everything here deserves 5 stars-food, service, & ambiance! The food was incredibly fresh, with impeccable taste, & the presentation was flawless. The servers were some of the kindest & most attentive I've ever encountered. The atmosphere is cozy yet intriguing, with a thoughtful interior design that adds to the overall experience. This has quickly become one of my favorite Pakistani/Indian restaurants in Montreal. I'll definitely be returning!View more
We are from Mississauga Ontario. A wonderful excellent Pakistani/Indian restaurant serves delicious food. We had chicken karahi, beef karahi, & chicken tikka boti. Meat was tender & exotic to the taste. Portions were generous. Salad & raita were very tasty. Anyone goes to Montreal must visit Amber Restaurant.View more
BUT WOOOOOWWWW, the food is just incredible, the taste, the freshness, the temperature, everything was delicious & impeccable! congratulations for your business!! 100% recommended if you like Indian/Pakistani foodView more
I believe Amber offers the best overall experience for Indian/Pakistani food. The decor is sleek, offering what appears to be a vast dining area. The service on my last 3 visits has been pleasant is all aspects. On my last two visits I ordered the lamb biryani along with the saag paneer & bartha. In my book you can judge the quality of the establishment by it's Biryani, Amber's biryani is delicious. The rice isn't oily, there are just enough nuts & dried fruit along with a well balanced spice mix. The lamb (a generous portion) is succulent The rest of the dishes were also well spiced although I prefer the eggplant to be more present in flavour. The service is great My favourite place & to boot my dining partner will only eat Indian/Pakistani food at Amber.View more
Délicieux! You can reliably judge an Indian restaurant just by the quality of its naan bread. & the dishes are just top notch. Refined yet authentic.View more
The restaurant itself is pretty, but the butter chicken is absolutely bland. Perhaps one of the worse Indian food experienced we had. In addition, the waitresses are not too friendly, feels like you're bothering them when you're asking questions. You're much better off finding an actual authentic Indian restaurant on Jean Talon & save your money 😌View more
Really Dissapointing. :( Lamb Korma was just okay-ish, Chicken Tikka Masala was simply tasteless, & Naan was burnt... They are much better Indian restaurants in Montreal, don't waste your money here.View more
Are you looking for a restaurant with a good atmosphere, with Indian food & apportez votre vin? is this place!!!!!!!!!!!View more
Apart from the Lamb dish which was decent, the four other dishes we ordered were very bland . Also the naan was cold & not fresh. I'm very surprised that they managed to make indian food bland with all the spices involved! Very disappointed in the food but the ambiance & service was good.
The food was cold including th tea that we ordered. Waitresses seemed very tired as well. The overal quality of food was not good. The was no sauce for the salad. & as Indian food, we expected flavours & spices, but the food did not taste Indian.
I went there for the second time only to be positively surprised by their lunch menu. I was able to taste many different Indian flavors in one sitting. Can't go wrong with that! I was especially delighted by the dessert: Gulab Jamun. It was a sponge-like-texture ball that was soaked with this mildly sweet (I believe there was rose water to flavour) simple syrup that felt like the best way to end a meal! All bowls are a small hand size so it's a very good portion. I had the Lamb korma which is slightly sweet as it's made with coconut milk. I'll definitely keep going back. It's a great place, with delicious food & affordable prices.View more
Great experience overall, food was tasty, good value & service was friendly & efficient. A very good choice for Indian cuisine on the Plateau. We will surely be back.
It was my wife's birthday supper, & I surprised her by taking her to & Indian restaurant. I ordered the grillade land it's was over cooked , I had one piece & a half of the lamb & when we told the waitress she had the response , well you ate some !!!!! How am I suppose to taste it !!! & during the whole we were there not once did our glasses of water filled
Thought it was going to be a great evening was finally a real disappointment 🙁
Located just west of St. Denis street on Rachel, Amber is a pleasant Indian restaurant with a warm ambiance & friendly staff. All the classic dishes are available...for our meal we had Dahl Soup (ok...could have been more flavorful), Chicken Tikka Boti (very good), Shrimp Biryani (very good), Butter Chicken (good...not as seasoned as we are used to), Aloo Gobi (good), Mutter Paneer (also good), Chana Masala (very good) & Garlic Naan (excellent). Overall we had a pleasant experience. Enjoy!
NOTE: This is a BYOB restaurant.View more
