We showed up right at 5PM for their weekday happy hour deal: order any main & get 50% off appetizers & drinks. For real, that kind of deal in Montreal feels like a unicorn. Bonus? It's BYOB! Bring your favorite bottle or try their mocktails-surprisingly bold & worth it.
Mocktail highlights:
🍍 Ginger Pineapple Fusion - Bright, zesty, & just the right kick.
🥭 Mango Virgin Mojito - Sweet, tropical, & super refreshing. Perfect sidekick to all the spicy bites.
What we ate (& loved):
🥟 Chana Samosa - My MVP appetizer. Think crispy samosas loaded with spiced chickpeas, yogurt, & tangy chutneys. Like Indian nachos, but better.
🫓 Keema Naan - Fluffy naan stuffed with spiced ground meat. Tasty, but I'd ask if they could make it spicy next time!
🫓 Cheese Naan - Fluffy naan with cheese inside
🫓 Garlic Naan - Delicious with the butter chicken 🤤
🍗 Chicken Pakoras - Crispy, juicy, would love a little hot sauce with it.
🥗 Paneer, Tomato & Mango Salad - Gorgeous & fresh but a bit mild flavor wise. Wanted a bit of crunch or spice to round it out.
Main dishes = full flavor mode:
🍛 Butter Chicken - Creamy, rich, & total comfort food goals.
🍤 Shrimp Karahi - Light, flavorful, & packed with peppers & onions.
🍖 Lamb Biryani - Fragrant rice, tender lamb, & cozy spice. Everything you want in a biryani.
🔥 Mixed Grill Platter - All the tikka you could want-chicken, lamb, malai, & seekh kababs. Juicy & sizzling. Perfect for sharing (or not).
Sweet ending:
🍮 Cardamom Crème Brûlée - Dreamy custard with a toasty caramel top & that warm cardamom hug.
The vibe? Cozy, colorful, & full of personality. The staff handled our giant order & many questions with patience & smiles. This spot is perfect for date night, squad dinner, or spoiling yourself midweek.
💡 Foxy Tip: Bring a bottle, ask for extra spice if that's your vibe, & don't skip the chana samosa.

Amazing food, great ambiance, & great recommendations & service from Amani! The lamb dishes were particularly good!View more
Randomly searched for the place & it looked really yummy. To add on to everything, the atmosphere & servers were great. Our waitress Florence was so funny, lovely & super attentive. The way she handled tables & helped with our recommended dishes was fantastic. The food was sooo tasty & combined perfectly. Thanks for the amazing food & night AMBER & Florence 💛View more
It's a nice place with ambience & good service. The food however lacked spices & rich flavors. I was surprised given the rave reviews. We tried various appetizers & dishes with lamb, beef, paneer in different sauces. I do love Indian food & have been to great Indian places so maybe my expectations are unfair.View more
A bit disappointed by the food & service here. We were looking for an Indian bring your own wine with good atmosphere for our anniversary. When we made a reservation & said it was our anniversary, they sounded excited to plan something for us. Unfortunately when we got there, there was nothing special done & the food was very average. Many of the dishes lacked flavour & we could have had a much tastier & cheaper meal elsewhere. The Chana masala was not good. We had to chase after our server to get water & then our bill (based on other reviews, I can only assume this is not normal for them & that it could have been their way of giving us our own space on our anniversary). We had fun because we were together but we won't be going back.View more
This is the most white people Indian food I've ever had. I'm talking'Midwestern retired boomer with a house on Florida' white. Absolutely no flavour, no complexity, no spice. Hospital food. The presentation is good, but the pictures for the lunch menu lie to you as they show the main dish being the larger plate, while on delivery it's on the smaller side, way smaller than the rice. So, it's basically a side dish. I'm not complaining about the spiciness levels, I understand why it would be mid being in Canada, I prefer mid personally too. But, Indian food is not about the hotness, but the complex flavours, mixing & elevating each other in the curry. There was none of that. It was like a tomato soup but even that is acidic. I could not taste any of the spices, where was the cardamom, where was the turmeric? I tried two curries, couldn't tell them apart. No depth at all. I feel like getting a COVID test after eating there, just in case it's me. The vegetable side dishes were overall better than the main dish. The naan was fine, but a bit undercooked. Never coming back.View more
The beautifully decorated Indo-Pakistani, BYOW, restaurant is located in the heart of the Plateau, on Rachel. First, the decor is stunning, the choice of colors, the bar, the wall art...everything is well thought out. We were greeted by the lovely owner who served us a feast. They do not serve alcohol but their non-alcoholic drinks will make you forget alcohol! We got the Mango Virgin Mojito, which was absolutely AMAZING, & the Iced Caramel Chaï Latte, which was perfect! We highly recommend their drinks! We also got to try their famous lunch thali (they have veg or non-veg) which is served only from Wednesday to Sunday (11:30 - 16:00). The thali is so complete, with an appetizer, your choice of main curry, 2 veggie curries, rice, naan, & a dessert. Then we got a few dishes; - Paneer Tikka - Chicken Kebab Masala (MY FAVE!) - Haleem Beef - Chicken Vindaloo We finished the meal with a Cardamom Crème Brûlée & an Almond Kulfi. We highly recommend trying out this place! The food is exquisite!View more
This is one of the best in town. I loved all the dishes. The Owner Hafsa is so kind & helpful. All the staff were great & i will definitely visit this place again. The ambience is very fancy & beautiful. Highly recommend this place.. must try :Kulfi , Brownie , veg korma, paneer pakoda, Biryani, garlic Naan, mango majito, mango Lassi, Gobi 65View more
I believe Amber offers the best overall experience for Indian/Pakistani food. The decor is sleek, offering what appears to be a vast dining area. The service on my last 3 visits has been pleasant is all aspects. On my last two visits I ordered the lamb biryani along with the saag paneer & bartha. In my book you can judge the quality of the establishment by it's Biryani, Amber's biryani is delicious. The rice isn't oily, there are just enough nuts & dried fruit along with a well balanced spice mix. The lamb (a generous portion) is succulent The rest of the dishes were also well spiced although I prefer the eggplant to be more present in flavour. The service is great My favourite place & to boot my dining partner will only eat Indian/Pakistani food at Amber.View more
Service, atmosphere & food exceeded expectations. My wife & I are not fans of spicy food ... & Amber's spice level was perfect for us. Tasty yet not over spiced. Many unique dishes & ample portions. We will be back! Thank you for making us a great dinner!View more
Délicieux! You can reliably judge an Indian restaurant just by the quality of its naan bread. & the dishes are just top notch. Refined yet authentic.View more
It's a very cute place, especially during summer if you get to sit at the open window. I've been to this place twice & the food tasted differently between lunch & dinner. Beef, lamb dishes seemed to miss spice both times. Paneer in the spinach souse was delicious. Service during lunch was low level. Even though I was the only person it took me 15 minutes to get the waitress to get me a bill. Service during the evening was much nicer. A different lady (I think Francesca) was extremely helpful in describing dishes & her availability in the room.View more
Don't take the chicken tikka masala, it was really subpar & definitely not worth 18$. The sauce was too liquid, & the chicken was dry on the inside. The rice was mid. Other dishes like the chicken curry seemed ok. This place is trying to appear fancy, & the decoration is good, but the quality of the food is not at the adequate level for the price.View more
The service & the atmosphere was truly amazing. The front staff were friendly & accommodating, & were gladly able to respond to any of our questions. The service was fairly quick, even when their busy. I will recommend trying out the saag paneer with a side of rice, which was creamy & full of flavors. The bengun had bursting flavors, especially the smokey taste since it's made in the tandoor. In the meaty side, my absolute favorite were lamb korma, lamb karahi, saag shrimp & haleem beef. & lastly, our chicken biryani was well cooked, the combination of the spices, meat & the rice were perfectly balanced. I would highly recommend trying out this place. It is very affordable & all the dishes are well priced. My family & I enjoyed it a lot & we will come back again.View more
This is one of my go to restaurants for Pakistani dishes. Each dishes are very well seasoned & so delicious. We usually order 4 to 6 plates that we can share. Service is always good & kind. Prices are very reasonable as well as the portions. It is best to reserve in advance on weekends. Can't wait to go back again.View more
Apart from the Lamb dish which was decent, the four other dishes we ordered were very bland . Also the naan was cold & not fresh. I'm very surprised that they managed to make indian food bland with all the spices involved! Very disappointed in the food but the ambiance & service was good.
Lack of spice & salt in the food. The butter chicken was tasteless as well & the chicken tikka masala. The samosa served was cold inside.
I strongly recommend that you add more spice to all your dishes. My friends are born & raised in montreal & yet found that the food tasted too bland overall.
We also found a huge cockroach at our table....
Tasty flavors in the 3 vegetarian dishes I had & the price was what you would expect for the dish size. The server was also very nice.View more
The food was so bland we could not eat it. The Masala tea tasted like warm milk. We ordered three dishes; one was good & the other two had no taste. We did not eat them & brough them home. I added cardamon, cloves & a pinch of salt to one (the ingredients on the menu) & it was delicious! From this I guess ingredients were left out. The butter sauce was also too bland to eat - like eating unseasoned cream. This we also improved with a pinch of salt, pinch of msg. It seems clear that the chef does not taste what they cook. I would not come back here unless I have my own spices with me.
Absolutely a wonderful experience from A to Z... my niece & her husband invited my girlfriend & me to have dinner at this gem of a restaurant. The food & service was excellent we would like to thank ANJAN our server who took great care of us & was super friendly & attentive to us. The food was a 10 on 10 from the apps to salads to main dishes. The best part also is that it's a bring ur own wine. I recommend this place to everyone. We can't wait to be back . It's best to reserveView more
Located just west of St. Denis street on Rachel, Amber is a pleasant Indian restaurant with a warm ambiance & friendly staff. All the classic dishes are available...for our meal we had Dahl Soup (ok...could have been more flavorful), Chicken Tikka Boti (very good), Shrimp Biryani (very good), Butter Chicken (good...not as seasoned as we are used to), Aloo Gobi (good), Mutter Paneer (also good), Chana Masala (very good) & Garlic Naan (excellent). Overall we had a pleasant experience. Enjoy!
NOTE: This is a BYOB restaurant.View more
Our large group of friends just loved Amber. We ordered a large selection of starters & main dishes, half vegetarian, half with meat. Everything was delicious. The flavouring & sauces were perfect. The naan bread was fresh & hot. The restaurant has a good ambience. Our waitress was excellent. We will definitely come again
Welcoming & spacious ambience, excellent food throughout the meal, a wide range of vegetarian dishes, friendly & correct service. The butter chicken is much less sweet than elsewhere, & all the more flavourful, with dark as well as white meat enriching the dish. Highly recommended!
Excellent resto....Definitely fresh , well priced & delicious dishes...A+
Very good food - just a slightly limited variety of main dishes. All was delicious though
I highly recommend the restaurant because of the friendly staff & the delectable dishes!! The flavours exploded in our mouths!!!
