Alessandro's Picks
5524, St-Patrick, Montréal, H4E 1A8
Alessandro is enthusiastic about McKiernan in Montreal, a spot created by the team behind Joe Beef, Liverpool House, and Maison Publique. With its view of the canal and cozy atmosphere, it's the perfect place for any occasion, from birthdays to casual gatherings with friends. The food is comforting and delicious, with standout dishes like roasted chicken and Brussels sprouts. Their pasta dishes never disappoint, and don't miss their schnitzel sandwich and homemade donuts. A true gem of the city!
230 Rue Jarry E, Montréal, H2P 1T5
Located in Villeray, Chez Josie has quickly become a go-to spot for Alessandro for birthday celebrations and casual nights out with friends. The atmosphere is lively, complemented by good music. The menu, perfect for sharing, offers standout dishes like truffle arancini, beef tartare, burrata with fattouche, and paccheri bolognese, ensuring a memorable evening.
222 Avenue Laurier O, Montréal, H2T 2N8
Oncle Lee, a recent addition to the Montreal scene, is led by Chef Andersen Lee and the team behind acclaimed restaurants such as Bouillon Bilk, Cadet, and Place Carmin. As an Outremont native, Alessandro is always eager to support new spots in his neighborhood. He predicts a bright future for this place, impressed by standout dishes like crispy seafood chow mein and five-spice duck. A new must-visit spot in Mile End, promising and welcoming!
52 Rue St-Viateur O, Montréal, H2T 2X2
Bishop & Bagg, located in Mile End, is a favorite of Alessandro's for its pub atmosphere offering seasonal pub fare and a wide selection of imported beers. He loves spending his summer evenings on the terrace, enjoying the famous Bagg burger with aioli potatoes, or jerk chicken with a side of mac and cheese. What's more, the pub organizes karaoke nights every Tuesday and quiz nights every Sunday!
Michael's Picks
7495 Rue Saint-Denis, Montréal, H2R 2E5
Located in the heart of Villeray, Restaurant Moccione stands out among Montreal's Italian establishments. For Michael, this restaurant is not only warm and inviting, but it offers seasonal Italian dishes that never fail to impress. He highly recommends the grilled calamari arrabbiata, perfect to start and enjoy with homemade focaccia ... don't hesitate to savor it with "scarpetta."* The arancini and beef carpaccio also deserve a special mention. For mains, he recommends sharing several pasta dishes with friends for a complete experience.
*In Italy, scarpetta means soaking up all the sauce left on the plate (or in the pot) with bread...
1199 Avenue Van Horne, Montréal, H2V 1K1
Bloomfield, located in Outremont, Montreal, is the perfect spot for a Mediterranean brunch, combining freshness and flavors without breaking the bank. Michael is particularly fond of their original French toast and the Jerusalem platter for two. He emphasizes that fresh and healthy ingredients are the key to a culinary experience offering excellent value for money.
5985 Rue St-Hubert, Montréal, H2S 2L8
Pichai, created by the Pumpui grocery team, is a must for northeastern Thai cuisine in Montreal, located in the Rosemont-Petite Patrie neighborhood. Perfect for small groups with its shareable menu, this discreet spot is ideal for a relaxed outing. Michael is particularly taken with the oysters, the Pla Rad Prik (Arctic char), fried fish balls, and chickpea tofu.
1228 Rue Sherbrooke O, Montréal, H3G 1H6
For fancy evenings or special occasions, Michael favors Maison Boulud, located in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. This restaurant offers a culinary experience from start to finish and also serves a delicious brunch for those who prefer lunch over dinner. Led by Chef Daniel Boulud, the French-inspired menu will transport you directly to France. A distinctive feature of Maison Boulud is the frequent offering of collaborative menus with various chefs, ensuring a unique experience with each visit.
A Shared Favorite for the Mangiabene Boys
6127 Avenue Monkland, Montréal, H4A 1H5
Michael and Alessandro are regulars at Bistro Amerigo, where each visit is a renewed pleasure. This year, they met Steve Marcone, the owner, and Chef Alex di Prima, who invited them to a typical Italian lunch that lasted all day! They were charmed by the variety of pasta dishes, grilled octopus with fregula, and homemade tiramisu served directly from its baking dish, highlighting the authenticity and quality of the dishes offered.
