Review Summary

Zama is described as a vibrant spot that blends dining with a club vibe, offering stylish decor, a warm atmosphere, and generally strong service, with many praising the delicious fusion dishes, sushi, cocktails, and the lively music that makes it a great night out. The overall impression is highly positive when the kitchen and staff run smoothly, but some visits note slower service, crowded spaces during events, and occasional policy missteps such as unclear jacket or fee rules that can dampen the experience. Taken together, Zama stands out for its energy, flavor, and hospitality, while reminding guests that timing, crowds and event details can affect the dining and after hours experience.

The food was good, my tuna tartare sushi was delicious & beautifully presented. The service itself was slow, but the servers were friendly & attentive, checking in often to make sure we had everything we needed. The interior is charming but small, & once events begin or dinner services overlap, the space becomes crowded & a bit chaotic.

Despite the good food, I personally wouldn't return because of how poorly the jacket situation was handled. When I went to pick up my jacket, I handed the woman my tiny paper slip with the number on it. She immediately asked if I had'a ticket for the event', which confused me since it was my first time there & I thought the slip was the ticket. When I said no, she told me I had to pay $25. It caught me off guard, but at that point I just wanted to pay the fee & leave. However, the way she spoke to me was unnecessarily rude.

When I tried to pay by card, she quickly snapped that they only accept cash. I couldn't even call my friends down to help because she said they wouldn't be allowed upstairs again. I understand it might partly be our mistake for not knowing about the $25 fee or the cash requirement, but we weren't there for the event. They seated us before the event even started. We were simply there for our dinner reservation. If we had been told that staying past a certain time would trigger an event fee, we absolutely would have left earlier. None of this was mentionned anywhere, certainly not from the servers either.

It would be so much better if the restaurant made these policies clear when people book reservations. That entire incident with the the White lady in the jacket station completely spoiled our night. Overall, the food & ambiance were great, but the rude handling of the event fee was enough to ruin the experience for me.
