When I was 21, I moved to downtown Montreal on Saint-Marc Street. Around the corner, I discovered a restaurant that completely changed the way I thought about food. Their General Tao wasn't just delicious-it was unforgettable.
I've eaten thousands of General Tao dishes over the years, & to this day, nothing has ever come close. The sauce is, without question, an 11 out of 10. It's rich, complex, perfectly balanced, & packed with layers of flavor that still amaze me. The crispy coating is flawless, & the chicken is outstanding-the only way it could be even better would be with premium organic chicken.
I loved it so much that I ate there almost every day for nearly a year. I told everyone I knew about it, & even convinced a newspaper to write a story about the restaurant.
More than just becoming my favorite meal, it inspired me to become a better chef. It sparked my obsession with sauces & taught me that a truly extraordinary sauce can turn a great dish into something unforgettable. Long before gourmet sauces became popular, this restaurant had already mastered the art.
After all these years, it remains the greatest General Tao I have ever tasted.
I had a great experience here! The beef & broccoli was perfectly cooked-tender, flavorful, & not overly salty like it can be at some places. The sauce had a really nice balance & coated everything just right.
The General Tao chicken was also a standout-crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, & the sauce had that ideal mix of sweet & slightly spicy without being overwhelming.
The food is absolutely fantastic. The owner of the restaurant is so nice !
Pork & shrimp dumplings no shrimp. Tea weak & luke warm. Mystery meat in cantonese chow mein. This place has gone downhill..
They have Vegetarian & Plant Based (Vegan) options or can modify dishes on request. I have been going there for many years. Sometimes dining in, takeout & delivey. As far as the West Island, this place is great for quick no frills Chinese Food. Food is always good & hot & the price has always been very reasonable. The decore is dated & could use a little freshening up. Table service has always been just average, not great, nothing spectacular, never service with a smile, definitely could use a lot of improvement.
This place is ideal for Takeout & Delivery.
Worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. I ordered Salt & pepper pork chops, Chicken shrimp mayo & salt & pepper tofu. Everything was not fresh at all & the quantity was very questionable for the price!
One of the original Chinese restaurant in Montréal. Been coming here way before covid & the quality had remain consistent. They do make mistakes with order but they do fix it even if it is a take out order. Staff is friendly. The food is great. Will return many more times.
Fast, Easy lunch choice. Nice fresh ingredients, good portion sizes, priced right.
Best place in the west Island for Chinese food. I personally enjoy the little vintage look of the place but I know it's not for everyone !
