We had an incredible dining experience that brought back so many memories of home. The jackfruit biryani was absolutely mind-blowing-easily the best biryani we've had in Montreal! The coconut curry was bursting with flavor & warmth-it tasted just like something made in a home kitchen, full of love & nostalgia.

A special shout-out to Abhishek, who was an exceptional host. Despite us arriving just 30 minutes before closing, he welcomed us with a big smile & made sure we felt right at home. He suggested the best dishes that could still be freshly prepared, & everything exceeded our expectations.

Highly recommended for anyone craving truly authentic Indian flavors. We're already looking forward to our next visit!View more

I really wanted to rate 1 star just to get the epic replies from the hilarious person behind TULA's Google account, but I'll have to give it an honest 5 stars review. We ordered for the first time tonight (after reading all the 1 star reviews), & although the dishes are pricey on DoorDash, TULA did not cut any corners. The spices are plentiful & the dishes are satisfying; some serious comfort food! The portions are filling, the rice is prepared perfectly. We loved the butter chicken, grandma's coconut curry, tofu bhurjee & tofu koliwada (the 6 pieces were quite large & the breading is nicely spiced). We loved all 4 dishes equally. The accompanying mint & tamarind chutneys were delicious (next time, I would extra chutneys since the tofu koliwada pieces are so generous). We are definitely ordering again.View more

Hi everyone, I'm leaving a review here to encourage you to go explore the sunny dishes of Tula restaurant, a gem of an Indian Vegan restaurant on Saint Laurent right above Fairmount. I didn't know quite what to expect, & was enchanted by all of the depth of flavor, texture & deliciousness of all the dishes we tried.

Definitely try the Koshimbir salad, like a loaded coleslaw with a twist & a medley of tangy flavours & colours; cabbage, carrot, greens, pomegranates, mung beans/lentils, walnuts & a few edible flowers on top. So pretty & surprisingly hearty.

The vegan Tikka Masala with plant based'chicken' was so satisfying in flavor, colour & texture who would've known it was vegan. Just a delight in every bite.

Do not miss Grandma's Special Coconut Curry. It has everything in it to satisfy all of your taste buds, with beautiful fresh bright green peas, potatoes, plant-based protein & a golden yellow colour that warms your soul & leaves it glowing.

The Black Chickpea & Black-Eyed Pea Ghassi had just the right amount of warmth & was so tasty. So happy to have tried this unique dish. The Jeera rice was a perfect balance of cumin seeds & cilantro & the Chapatis were warm, soft & pillowy, so tasty & smelled good.. What is their secret?

Top it off with a tall glass of hibiscus & ginger, & you're good to go. The food was so clean, thoughtful, considered, packed some huge flavours & was wildly satisfying. Special thanks to Priyanka & Brenda for being such lovely hosts & for offering a fun & cohesive service. I can't wait to come back again to try more. Yay Tula!View more

Loved the food & the experience. It was packed on an early evening on a Sunday. Loved the Koshimbir & panna cotta, & I highly recommend it. Pleasantly surprised by the chapati, which was so much better than the roti you get at a general Indian restaurant. Grandma s Curry was flavorful. If you like more heat, ask for the hot sauce which is quite hot.View more

We loved this restaurant so much. Every single item on the menu from mango lassi to vegan chicken to thali was flavorful & fresh. I couldn't believe everything was vegan & tasted so good (as most of the vegan places I've been to in the past have only had a few good items). The masala chai just sealed the deal after I devoured that yummy Thali. My 14 month old also went'mmmhhh' with every bite of the roti & tofu curry. I wish Abhishek (the owner) loads of good luck & success in expansion of his business & remain hopeful that he will consider bringing some of his vegan wisdom over the border to greater Boston area (we were visiting Montreal from here).

He is a very good host & paid attention to each & every one of his customers individually even though the restaurant is busy! He shared stories from his own life & listened to ours & made this experience so memorable that my son wouldn't want to leave his side lol.
Already looking forward to visiting Tula again when we do back to MontrealView more

I don't know how to explain it, but this place feels like home. As soon as we walked in, there is an undeniable sense of peace. The owner is very personable & make us feel so welcomed. The food was delicious & healthy. To drink, we started with the Mango Lassi (SO GOOD! Hard to believe it's vegan) & the Ayurvedic Turmeric latte (turmeric powder is made in house!). To eat, we had the Vegetable Poriyal, Grandma's Curry, & Vegan Chicken Briyani. The dessert was fragrant & light, highly recommend! 10/10 recommend this place!View more

A Hidden Gem in Montreal's Vegan Scene - Bringing the Flavors of Maharashtra & the Konkan Coast In a city as culturally diverse as Montreal, it's no surprise that the food scene is a rich tapestry of global flavors. However, stumbling upon a humble vegan spot that not only caters to plant-based enthusiasts but also brings the authentic taste of India's Maharashtra state & the coastal Konkan region feels like discovering a hidden treasure. This little gem, lovingly curated by its passionate host, Mr. Abhishek, is one such find. Located in a quiet corner, this vegan joint may not boast flashy decor or a high-end setting, but the unassuming nature of the place only adds to its charm. The focus here is entirely on the food, & it's clear from the very first bite that this is where all the love & attention have gone. If you've ever been fortunate enough to explore the rich culinary traditions of Maharashtra, you'll recognize the flavors instantly. For those unfamiliar, you're in for an authentic, flavorful journey that will transport your taste buds directly to the Konkan coast. Maharashtrian cuisine, especially from the Konkan belt, is known for its delicate balance of spices, coconut, tamarind, & fresh, local ingredients. At this vegan spot, Mr. Abhishek has managed to recreate these authentic tastes while staying true to the plant-based ethos. What sets this place apart is its ability to transform simple, traditional ingredients into dishes that are not only delicious but also feel soulful. The care that goes into the preparation is evident, & Mr. Abhishek himself is always on hand to share the stories behind each dish. His passion for the food & his desire to introduce these flavors to the Montreal crowd shine through in every interaction. One of the standout dishes on the menu is the "Vegan Grandma Curry," a hearty & flavorful curry that uses coconut milk as the base, flavored with an array of spices that balance heat with sweetness. It's served with freshly made rice or roti, & each bite is packed with layers of flavor. While the food is a major draw, what truly makes this place special is the atmosphere. There's an undeniable warmth to the space, largely due to Mr. Abhishek's welcoming nature. He takes time to explain the nuances of each dish, often sharing anecdotes from his own experiences growing up in India's coastal regions. It's clear that this isn't just a business for him - it's a labor of love. Whether you're a seasoned vegan or someone curious to explore new flavors, you'll feel like you've been invited into Mr. Abhishek's home for a meal. In a city where vegan restaurants are becoming increasingly popular, this spot stands out for its authenticity & heart. It's not just about providing vegan food - it's about offering a true culinary experience that bridges cultures. The flavors are bold, the ingredients fresh, & the hospitality unmatched. If you're in Montreal & looking to broaden your vegan horizons, this is the place to be. In summary, this vegan joint isn't just a restaurant - it's a celebration of Indian culinary heritage, brought to life by the passion & dedication of Mr. Abhishek. Whether you're craving the bold spices of Maharashtra or simply want to enjoy a wholesome, plant-based meal, this place is a must-visit. You'll leave not only with a satisfied appetite but also with a deeper appreciation for the rich flavors of the Konkan coast.View more

Tula is amazing!! I wish we had a plant base Indian restaurant like Tula in Salt Lake City, Utah. We were in Montreal 6 days & l ate here 3 lunches. It is absolutely delicious & healthy. Finding a restaurant where the owner cares about his patrons is rare. Abhi (I hope i got the owners name right) is so kind & goes out of his way to explain the dishes & makes you feel very welcome. The first day I ordered Lentil Idis with Samba & Chutney. My husband had the Brunch Platter. Everything was amazing & different than any Indian restaurant we had been before. I went back a few days later & had Grandma's Special Coconut Curry with Veggies & the GF Chapati. The curry was loaded with yummy veggies. I enjoyed it so much that I went again 2 days later for Grandma's curry!! You must try this restaurant!!View more

If you want to fall in love with vegan food, this is the spot! The owner is a delight & clearly takes great pride in the guests experience & the food, & it shows. Our table of 5 (vegan & non-vegan alike) had one of our favorite meals of our trip here. Mango lassi, tikka masala, black chickpea curry, grandma's recipe... flavor, presentation, & atmosphere are on POINT. We'll absolutely be back!View more

Folks, the ratings given to this restaurant by the 1100+ reviewers before me are not an exaggeration. This is the spot. I've ordered & been to TULA quite a few times now, & it has become my favourite restaurant in the city. Montreal has so much amazing food, & TULA tops them all. Not only is the food some of the tastiest food you'll eat, but it's also super healthy. When you tell people you're vegan, the assumption is that you eat relatively healthy. But not so much when you eat out. Vegan does not equal healthy. TULA is delicious, vegan, healthy & totally unique. The owner, Abhishek, is also the nicest, most humble chef & host. He is very passionate about what he does & it shows in his food. He's also a strong supporter of other vegan chefs in the city, & his appreciation for those who directly provide for the vegan community was really sweet & refreshing. Rather than see each other as competition, I love that there's support between those chefs. Regarding the food, I've eaten at TULA for dinner mostly, but recently discovered they also served brunch, & both are delicious. For brunch, my partner & I tried the Bombay Sandwich & the Brunch Platter. The sandwich had multiple layers of greatness & texture. The platter had a few items from the brunch menu, all of which are interesting & different. Sambar, black chickpea salad, chutneys but best of all: the sweet potato porridge. I could have eaten buckets of that porridge. As for dinner food, so far I've tried the: - Koshimbir (isn't it so great when a salad isn't treated as an afterthought & menu-filler?) - Grandma's Special Coconut Curry (good lord, amazing, had it with the assorted veggies & vegan chicken) - Dal Tadka (love the flavor) - Jeera Matar Aloo (maybe I love cumin, this was delicious too) - Biryani with jackfruit (the vegan mint raita is glorious) - Tofu Bhurjee (awesome with the chapati) Food from TULA actually has a lot of real estate on my mind, & I absolutely will keep on returning to try food I've yet to have the chance to eat.View more

We've been searching for great Indian spots in Montreal & I think we found the one! & it just happens to be vegan which is a big plus. Abhishek, the owner was so kind & it's clear how much love & thought goes into every element of the restaurant. The dishes are well curated for both who enjoy spice (& I'm Indian) & milder but still yummy flavors. Offering dishes from all around India, Tula has a flavor profile for everyone. If you're Indian: they have a curry that's achar based that's amazing & got spice 🌶️ If you're vegetarian: the fake meat here is so well done (with non GMO soy ingredients) & marinated with flavors (which is hard to get right for fake meats) 🤤 * Note: because it's vegan, coconut based ingredients are often the substitute for dairy! I enjoy it but not everyone is a big fan of coconut so heads up!View more

What an amazing dinner! Every bite burst with loads of flavour & was noticeably lighter than standard Indian fare. Our table of four was a split of vegans & omnivores, & everyone enjoyed the meal equally. The Goan curry was so delicious, & (as a long time vegan), I've never had a tikka masala, & it was wonderful. That & the dal palak was so rich! Service was great - Abishek is a delightful person & has certainly created something very special in Montreal.View more

This restaurant is an absolute gem! My partner & I are Vegan chefs, so it is rare to love every item we order. I can say with confidence that everything was absolutely delicious! We had Grandma's Special Coconut Curry with was very comforting & flavorful, Jackfruit Biryani which was amazing paired with the green sauce & all other curries, the Goan Jackfruit Curry which had the best sauce in my opinion, & lastly the Special Mushroom Poutine. This poutine is the best vegan poutine in the city, we've tried them all! The fries are perfectly crispy outside & soft inside with lots of flavor. The sauce was served on the side so you can decide to to dip & keep your fries crispy, or pour overtop for a classic poutine. That sauce was fantastic, too! The 2 Mango Lassi were perfect, too. The service here was amazing. The owner is extremely kind & passionate about his restaurant & answered all questions with kindness. Brenda was also very kind & helpful. I don't think we could have had a better experience, the full staff went above & beyond even clearing a table by the window so we can have better seats for when the food would come. 10/10 recommend.View more

Tula is without a doubt my favorite restaurant in Montreal. I was in town for three months, & after my first time eating here, Tula became a weekly stop. It's not just the best vegan food I have ever eaten, but the best Indian food as well. Grandma's curry, the biryani, & any one of the three exceptionally creative desserts are especially worth tasting. The variety of flavors & the uniqueness of the dishes even make this a great place to take a non-vegan. The atmosphere is very pleasant & calming, & the service is outstanding: special shout-out to Abhi & Alina for their warm hospitality during my repeated visits. This is a must-stop destination for anyone coming to Montreal, & well worth going out of your way to experience.View more
