This is a great neighbourhood restaurant. It's a place where you feel at home & comforted by the friendly staff & the great food. It's not fancy but you feel like you're in your grandmother's house or the neighbourhood trattoria.
We had 2 apetizers: meatballs & fried calamari, both excellent. We then had spaghetti carbonara, penne ritrovo & a steak sub. All were excellent, nice portions & fresh. I was tempted by the daily menu which also looked great. We will try it on our next visit.
Where has this place been all my life? Exactly where it is now, but somehow I only just found it. Il Ritrovo is not only a gem but an oasis. Everything was better than perfect. You'll feel at home, & the staff will anticipate what you need before you ask. You'll enjoy genuine Italian food in a city where other affordable restaurants are generally a disappointment. Have I mentioned the staff? They're worth a second shoutout.
Maybe they might serve good pizza at Restaurant IL Ritrovo but their customer service is extremely poor. Make sure when you go to their restaurant you spend lots of money or order at least a five course meal because otherwise you will not be a good enough client for them, they will be rude & disrespectful & they might even kick you out in front of a crowd of people while your still having a drink at your table...that is exactly what happened to me. It was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. I will never go there again or recommend this place to anyone regardless of how good their food might be. Good restaurant business is not just about great food but equally important is great customer service!!! There are plenty of other great restaurants here in Montreal where you are valued as a customer regardless of what you order & where both food & service are excellent & Restaurant IL Ritrovo is certainly not one of them!!!
