Review Summary

Tong Por Resto-Reception comes across as a dependable Cantonese spot with consistently good dim sum and a mix of classic dishes and occasional specialty options like the Eight Treasure Duck that many feel is worth trying, even though it typically needs to be ordered in advance. Diners praise the high quality and variety of dim sum, the presence of carts, and generous portions, with some noting the atmosphere feels timeless and friendly. Parking can be a challenge, especially on weekends, but the service is often described as warm and attentive, even when the pace or communication can vary. The restaurant is roomy and suitable for families and events, and many reviewers say the price-to-portion value is fair; some critique the decor as dated and the space sometimes busy, yet the food tends to carry the experience. Occasional concerns include unclear hours or dim sum service times and occasional service hiccups or tipping discussions, but overall Tong Por remains a reliable destination for comforting, flavorful Cantonese dining and a solid range of dim sum and dinner options.

My family & I went here for my husband's birthday. The restaurant is very spacious. They often hold weddings & other events, but yesterday night was quiet. The waiters were Friendly & attentive. As for the food the portions are a good size considering each plate is about $20. The taste & quality was amazing. You really don't need to go downtown china town for this kind of quality food. I highly recommend you try here.

Large portions & good quality food. I like that they have a wonton soup without pork (only shrimp), I don't eat pork so normally can't order that. Our server was very nice.

Dim Sum can vary, last time was excellent, dinner/ main plates generous but quality of output average, service attentive

Went this past Sat. Place was mobbed. Dim sum was first class. Soumai was moist, full of pork & ground shrimp with a transperant skin, sticky rice & chicken feet were hot & tasty while spareribs were meaty in their black bean sauce.
After the lengthy customer restrictions from the pandemic, it was nice to see the big dining room full & vibrant.

I felt compelled to make an update. Today the dim sum was outstanding. Eating alone my sample had to be a narrow one.
The tripe, liver & turnip was delicious. Moist & chewy, I enjoyed & applauded that the different elements of Now Jap in their serving chariot were separate as opposedto being in one prearranged mixture. The spareribs in black bean sauce were somewhat unique So much meat around each piece, chewy & garlic tasting. The sumai( steamed pork & shrimp) dumplings were as good as I have ever sampled including those eaten in Hong Kong . Light, buttery, virtual no thick, floured skin & brilliant texture, I almost brought a second order home in an act of indulgence. The three items described cost $23 before taxes up 40% from several years ago but in the moment worth every penny according to my satisfaction

I'll rate 4.4/5.0 . It's even better than the ones in downtown Montreal. Dim sum quality is comparable to Toronto Markham / Richmond Hill

Saturday evenings can be particularly crowded, with a bustling dining area filled with eager customers. Parking can be challenging, as the small lot is shared with the nearby C&T Supermarket & other stores, often leaving visitors searching for a spot. Despite this, the quality of food & lively ambiance make it worth the visit.

Did my wedding at Tong Por. Service was incredible, the chosen 10 course-meals were all fantastic, & my guests loved it. I've also been a guest at many weddings held in Tong Por, my experience has always been stellar & the food has always been super tasty & enjoyable. Aside from the wedding events, I've eaten at tong por many times too. They offer a wide variety of meals, & the quality of the food & the service is simply outstanding. Tong Por is a staple in Asian cuisine & Asian-style wedding receptions.

This is my "go to" Dim Sum place.

Sure the parking is a pain & the line up is at times long on the weekends. But that's part of the charm. Sure beats driving around in circles looking for & paying for parking in Chinatown.

The Dim Sum has a fairly good selection & the quality is above average.

There's a huge Chinese market at the other end of the mall that I like to visit after Dim Sum.
