In Old Montreal, just south of the Financial District, sits The Farsides. Brought to you by John Edward Gumbley (Bord’Elle) and the Jegantic team, the Farsides is an edgy new take on the restaurant and bar scene. Our blend of culinary styling sets the exotic far eastern flavours of Thailand’s shores crashing into the far Western Beaches of Hawaiian cuisine. The result of this fusion is something we like to call Thaiwaiian. A sumptuous combination of authentic Thai and Hawaiian delicacies, merging familiar flavours with elevated function.
Not only do we consider the Farsides to be a unique take on cuisine, we also aim to please with a brand new re-imagining of the Tiki bar concept. Our mixology program features no less than a dozen modern interpretations of classic cocktails you would normally only expect to find on the Islands.
Stepping into the Farsides will be like walking into our version of an alleyway in Brooklyn circa 1992. Complete with brick walls as high as the eye can see, fire escapes, graffiti laced facades and believe it or not our very own hand painted basketball court. Add a touch of the exotic with jungle like overgrowth set to the beat of 80’s & 90’s hip pop and nostalgic memorabilia from the golden age of rap and what you’ll find is The Farsides. Montreal you might not know us but we know you very well.

⭐ 2/5 - I REALLY wanted to like it… but it missed the mark. (BIG TIME!)
As a foodie, millennial hip-hop lover, & mom entrepreneur with Lao/Thai roots, I walked in excited for a night off from cooking & some good vibes - but sadly, it just didn't live up to the hype.
For our first visit - & a date night - we were seated all the way upstairs in a poorly lit corner, despite the place being FAR from full for a saturday night. The upstairs vibe felt flat & disconnected, which was a major bummer for a place known for its energy & ambiance.
The decor & our server were both nice, & the food came out relatively quickly after we finally placed our order - which took nearly 30 minutes.
But the real letdown? The drinks. We waited nearly AN HOUR for a cocktail, which didn't arrive until during our meal. We were parched... My'Painkilla' was overly sweet, barely had a hint of alcohol, & was overpriced for what it was.
As for the food: our pad thai was OVERLY salty, borderline inedible. When I told the young waitress the food was'just okay', there was no attempt to make it right or elevate the experience.
Also worth noting: my husband is lactose intolerant & not a fan of Thai kaffir lime or curry, so the menu didn't offer much for him either.
NOTE : This is not authentic Thai cuisine. Don't get it twisted. Want the real deal? Go to Thammada instead!
Overall, it's a beautiful space & the branding is very well done (I'll give them that! ) - but the service, food, & timing were disappointing. I walked in excited & left feeling let down. I really wanted to love this place... but it just wasn't good... I can't recommend it.View more
First time visit The Farsides, We are ordering group menu $65 pp. The restaurant is nice decor, live music with dJ , staffs are friendly but foods service is too slow & foods taste just ok . Not satisfied.View more
La cuisine était fermée donc il est impossible de noter cet aspect mais l'ambiance, le decor & le Mai Tai étaient excellents!View more
Great place to grab a drink & a bite with friends. The decor, ambiance, & music are straight vibes. Excellent service from Sadya & the team.View more
Great spot to go grab a bite & hang out with friends & colleagues, the vibe is super chill & the decor is incredible, amazing service from Sadya & her staffView more
Was referred by a colleague at work who loves old school hip hop as much as I do & had high hopes for this place…
Sadly, didn't live up to expectations…
Drinks? Beer? What beer? Only had 3 choices, given craft beers' popularity it's very disappointing. At least Painkiller cocktail was delicious!
Food was ordinary & not good value for money, & we tried lots: fresh coast ceviche with 4-5 half slices of shrimp, imperial rolls tiny, mango salad, pineapple Tao chicken mostly batter not chicken, only good value was Pad Thai.
Atmosphere & decor are nice but cannot make up for food & beer!View more
One of the greatest restaurants in the entirety of Montreal. They have a unique cuisine that can satisfy anyone. I recommend trying the entire menu. The decor is also one of the strengths of Farsides. I can honestly say that I would come just to look around without eating anything. This is the place to bring everyone you know.View more
Went here on a snowy day. Didn't have a reservation but we got into eat easily enough. The place had a nice vibe, cool decor & friendly staff. The pad Thai was very salty & the pork dish as well. The pad Thai portion was big. The food was well presented & when we mentioned the saltiness they gave us a lovely mango cheesecake to take away. The cheesecake was delicious. Service was great & the music created a chilled ambience. Didn't have any drinks here.View more
The atmosphere of the place, the decor is great, unfortunately food & service is really average. They have a max 2 hours per table, so it's not really a place to hang out with friends.View more
All Talk, No Game. The Farsides boast a fun & funky atmosphere, with cool decor & upbeat attitude. Their menu & staff are bilingual so there are no communication issues if you are from out of town. Service was very helpful & eager to make our experience as delightful as possible... from explaining the menu in detail, offering up options & even coming to the rescue to fix our wobbly table. The two stars comes from the sheer disappointment of the food menu. Although it all reads very well (such as combinations that would be great together) ...that's where it ends. We ordered three items to share between the two of us. The "Signature" Crispy Wings, Bangkok Street Skewers & the Pad Thai. Let's start with the Signature Crispy Wings. In pictures they look fantastic, it's actually what brought us into the restaurant in the first place, but they were overly "battered" creating this very thick crust that was hard to bite through. Not only that but the sauce they were tossed in was bland & boring... Coupled with a coconut ranch sauce that was an attempt at being creative, but the combination of thick crust & watery "coconut only" flavour sauce was rough. Throw in a side of coleslaw that also seemed to be tossed in the same watery coconut sauce & it was literally a recipe for disaster. Incredibly difficult to finish. The Bangkok Street Skewers weren't anything to write home about, overcooked, chewy, bland & boring. Lastly the Pad Thai. Three strikes & you are out. Again, heavily lacking in flavour, super greasy, with incredibly overcooked chicken & shrimp. (My jaw shouldn't hurt after eating) It was made with cashews instead of the traditional peanuts (which in comparison cashews heavily lack in flavour). I understand if you want to avoid allergens, but the flavour in the rest of the dish needs to compensate for it. Unfortunately this dish relied on that missing ingredient & fell flat. All in all I would not recommend eating at this establishment. I can tell the entire menu needs a complete revamp just with the three dishes we had. Either that or whoever is running the kitchen needs to make a swift exit. I feel the passion within this restaurant...you feel it in the energy when you enter, you feel it in the staff, you see it splattered on the walls. It's hard to deny that the creator made such an extraordinary space, but it did not translate to the food. Someone needs to get out of that kitchen, & someone equally as passionate about food needs to be put in it. Act fast Farsides, or soon you'll see your profits turn to deficits.View more
Great spot to have drinks with your friends, drinks come out fairly quicker than other spots. Overall good vibes with the ambiance & decor if you're into hiphop & rap.View more
The atmosphere was very cool. I enjoyed the music & the decor. It was unfortunate that despite making a reservation for two, over a week ago, they somehow didn't have a table for us. Annoying but whatever the bar was fine. The service was mid. It took a while to be acknowledged after we sat. The drink I ordered, a Mai Thai was not like any other Mai Thai I've ever had, & not in a good way. It was very carbonated & light. Mai Thais are a traditional drink, & they totally missed the mark on it. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't $18CAD. I made the mistake of ordering the Thai Basil Rib Eye for $59CAD. It was extremely fatty, & the plate had 1000 flavors going on, but none of them were Thai basil. The fries were good but very salty. This was supposed to be our big fun dinner out for our weekend in Montreal, & it was extremely disappointing. If you enjoy Thai food, don't be deceived cause this isn't it. If you want to look cool on Instagram & leave hungry, check it out.View more
For the money, the food here is not worth it in my opinion. I can appreciate the atmosphere, however. Definitely a unique restaurant with a fun decor. The DJ in the front was a nice touch as well. As for the food, generally speaking, everything just seemed overpriced & underwhelming. Specifically the burger, fries, & the pineapple chicken appetizer. All left something to be desired in terms of flavor & texture. The drinks are also quite expensive for not much content.View more
The Farsides... What can I say - this place has a special spot in my heart as we are planning something special here next year. From the minute we walked in the door, we were treated like royalty by both the staff & management. Everyone was SO friendly, kind, & amazing to have coming by our table. The drinks & food were to die for (honestly can't wait to eat here again STAT) & perfect for sharing across the table. My father-in-law can be particular with tastes & even he enjoyed the food - I don't think he put the burger down for a second because he was enjoying it so thoroughly. I can't say enough good things! There is so much to enjoy & explore here - your eyes will always find something new in the decor & the ambiance is so cool. We are so looking forward to wowing our friends in your space next year & will be back before that for sure. 15/10 recommend!View more
Visited a Sunday night, so can't comment too much on ambiance or vibes as it was very calm. But decor was very cool, looks like a fun place. The food was good. Shared ceviche, skewers, chicken wings & a pad thai. I LOVED the chicken wings, whereas my partner adored the lemongrass pork skewer. The ceviche was good, but served on a tostada, which was not easily consumed. Pad Thai was good, but I don't know if it merited the price. Chicken, shrimp & tofu, but the tofu was the most prominent protein. The nuts were toasted which is a nice feature. Service was fine, not as attentive as I'd expect given that the restaurant was not that busy. Had wine, did not try their cocktails which are $20 each.View more
The service was great but 28$ for a glass of white wine. SERIOUSLY!. The presentation of the food was basic & the food was passable. Great decor!View more
Great food, pad thai was delicious, loved the decor, only the music was waay too loud to hear ourselves talk, but the music choice was greatView more
The Farside is a super club located at the edge of Old Montreal. You go there to eat, & as the night sets, the music gets louder, transforming into a club. If you plan on having conversations, try to avoid making late reservations as it will be closer to a club ambiance rather than a restaurant. The food is great, & the service is okay, but the interior design is absolutely amazing. The vibrant atmosphere & stylish decor make it a unique spot for both dining & nightlife.View more
Looking for a great time, looking for nostalgia? Then you found the right place, awesome decor & atmosphere, will bring you back to your kid hood if you grew up in 80-90s!View more
Really good food, good service, food arrived quickly too. The drinks were delicious too. Original & tasty. The look & decor is awesome. The only thing I can say against is that the music is way too loud for me. But everything else is over the top.View more
Really a great experience. The decor is great, service was spot on by both waitress & bus boys (unfortunately didnt grab our waitress's name). Their cocktails are creative & delicious. The food was wow! Cannot forget to mention the great music being played!View more
I rarely make my way out to Farsides as we have so many other dining options in Montreal, but if you're looking for a cool vibey place this is definitely the one. The decor & music are super fun. My favourite thing are their specialty drinks! Definitely sets them apart. Make sure to ask for Sadya, she's the best waitress out there! Always caters perfectly to your needs & goes above & beyond. I would definitely come back more often just for her! (I also have a lot of allergies/restrictions) It's nice to have an attentive waitress that actually cares & makes it her priority unlike other places I've visited. :)View more
What an amazing place! If you love the 90s 00s this is THE place! Music, decor & yummy drinks! Isabella was amazing & recommended the best choices on the menu.View more
I like the 90s hip hop groove & the nerdy decor I always go there for a drink or 2View more
Must go restaurant in Montreal! Drinks are amazing, definitely recommend trying the Thaiwaiian Gin & Tonic. Food was great, amazing service & staff was really attentive to our needs! Great ambiance, 90s hiphop playing all night long, great decor for photos!View more
Great cocktails, food is amazing, try the kalbifornia love you won't regret it. Staff is super friendly, I was amazed by the beautiful decor !
Nothing good to say about this place - food was overpriced & inedible. The papaya salad & pad Thai was slathered in this horrible sauce I think may have been ketchup which has no place in those dishes? Montreal has so many amazing Thai/asian fusion places but this place was an insult to asian cuisine & the culinary world in general 🤢
The decor is tacky & cringy - like l'avenue but with tasteless sprinkling of hip hop icons which have nothing to do with the cuisine & just seems so try-hard? Honestly Aaliyah deserves better than to have her face splattered on a table at this god awful restaurant.
Service was a nightmare as well- servers are inexperienced & awkward & kept touching the edge of our glasses with their dirty hands during covid - but then again, no self respecting experienced server should want to work at this atrocious establishment :-)
Overall 0/10 wouldn't send my worst enemy here!
Acceuil courtois
Service impecabble
