Thali is one of my favorite Indian places for a quick meal. The food is always ready, all you have to do is choose what you want. This is a family owned restaurant, the flavours are authentic & feel like it was home made. The only issue is the consistency, the food can taste slightly different from time to time depends on who is the chef on that day.
It is very cheap compared to other places in Montreal, for 15$ you can get a big plate with rice, lentil soup, naan, & 3 curries of your choice. My go to are the butter chicken & the palak paneer.View more
Amazing! I would rate it 6 stars if I could. My friend & I both got platters of about 2 kinds of meats, rice, naan, a veggie dish & a lentil dish + samosas, & it was incredibly delicious!View more
The place itself is not the greatest looking but the food is really good. We did order a thali & we could choose four options from the buffet. All the vegetarian ones were flavorful, good amount of spicyness, basically everything you want. The fresh garlic Naan was delicious as well as the fresh Mango Lassy. I will definitely come back when I am around.View more
So, we've now sampled the entire menu over a few weeks.
& the verdict is out: it is very meh. But thankfully they aren't the only brown spot in the area anymore.
The naan is somehow burnt & raw. Like thawed uncooked chapati.
Rice is nothing to write home about, but edible.
The veggies & legumes are all just fine.
The desserts…. a-ok.
The beef tastes like bark.
The lamb is ordinary.
The chicken is very good.
But the butter chicken? I suspect their sauce's secret is Kraft Dinner powder.
It used to be very good (many years ago). Not sure what happened! We would order often in the past & were never dissatisfied, what a shame.
Only thing worth something is the samosas! For 1.75$, they are actually very good & filling. Ideal for broke students!
I'm giving an extra star for the very clever comment replies that the management leaves! Pure snotty gold! But seriously, don't go there. We have so many alternatives now.View more
View more
Thali is my go-to for Indian street food. I always get the non-vegetarian thali with butter chicken, palak paneer, & lamb curry-but the vegetarian options are just as good! I also love their garlic naan & samosas, & the staff is always super friendly.View more
Très bon goût & le pain naan est excellent. Le français est absent malheureusementView more
Best Indian food in Montreal! I know the place since over 15 years, it's legendary! Amazing tasty food, generous portions, low prices, spicy just perfect, all their dishes are delicious, my favorites are the butter chicken, palak paneer, lamb curry, their naan & rice, gulab jamun, & tandoori chicken! But really, everything is excellent! I love how the taste of dishes is constant & always great, that you can count that it is always good, also not oily. The family is so nice, polite, & makes it a great experience! I like how it's not a service at the table, more like a buffet that they serve you, nothing fancy & friendly ambiance! A must if you visit downtown Montreal! Don't miss it!View more
Very good food service was great fresh amazing naan breadView more
The most authentic Indian restaurant I've seen in Montréal. Everything is superb. Finger lickin good in every sense of the word. Melt in the mouth naan, mildly spicy almost oil free curries. Loved it!View more
My opinion, The thali is not really value for quantity of food & only serves three curry. The taste was good, especially the naan.View more
Very delicious but also veeery spicy. Many vegetarian & vegan options. I couldn't eat naan (gluten allergy) in my dish so they gave me extra rice instead. Prices are pretty affordable. People working here are super nice & patient. The restaurant was very clean & cozy, not many seats but we found a place. I will be coming back.View more
Veg thali with pakodi kadhi, palak paneer, aloo baingan, rice & naan. Hot, tasty, homely food. Absolutely worth the money. Reasonably priced. Lovely people. Hole in the wall seating.View more
