Located on the 8th floor of the William Gray Hotel, Terrasse William Gray is the place to be to soak up the summer season. With a breathtaking view of Place Jacques-Cartier, the St. Lawrence River and Montreal’s Ferris wheel, our terrace offers refreshing summer wines, cocktails, beers and delicious sharing platters. The terrace is heated and equipped with retractable awnings to ensure our guest's comfort during cooler days.

We visited Terrasse William Gray as tourists around 2:00 pm, hoping to enjoy a couple of drinks & the view from their igloos. Upon arrival, we were told that the only option available was a fixed 5-course'experience' priced at $120 per person, & that we would not be seated in the igloos with a view. Instead, the only igloo offered was located at the back of the restaurant, with no view (although it did have a fire pit).
Since we had just finished lunch & didn't feel we would enjoy a full tasting menu, we decided to make a reservation for the evening instead. For dinner, the price increased to $170 per person, before taxes, & required full payment upfront to secure the table - again, for the same igloo without a view. Despite our hesitation, we went ahead & booked it to experience what the restaurant had to offer.
About 30 minutes after leaving the restaurant, we realized we wouldn't make it back in time due to sightseeing in the area & called to cancel. We were informed that the payment was non-refundable, which was disappointing.
When we arrived later that evening, the table was ready, & the staff was genuinely friendly & welcoming. Unfortunately, the experience fell short when it came to the service & food. Our server was unable to answer basic questions about the menu, which made us feel they were not very familiar with it. The food itself was nicely presented but ultimately forgettable - nothing stood out or felt worth the high price.
In the end, we paid around $700 for dinner for four, & it was not an experience we truly enjoyed. While the ambiance & location are beautiful, the pricing, rigid policies, & underwhelming food made this feel more like a tourist trap than a memorable dining experience.

A very nice place for a get together with colleagues, friends & family. We went while it was still warm outside & it was pleasant to have a drink, est & enjoy the rooftop view.
The service was excellent, our server was very efficient & attentive. It was unfortunate that you can only be there for a max of 2 hours, although our server did offer to see if it was possible to move us to a different table.
Everything we ordered was really good & I can recommend without hesitation as we will go back for sure.
Food was hit or miss among the plates. None lower than 3 stars, some were 5 based on everyone's interactions. Fig burrata was definitely good, the fish looked good, cheese plate so so, burger looked ok. Truffle fries were over rated.
They were struggling about with groups & juggling tables but we did get drinks & were direct in getting refills. Waitress did well - not her fault.
We had one issue where it was assumed that the bill would be 1... For 12 people & many had left so the remainders of us got stuck with it. Still had to be paid, but multiple confirmations on 1 bill or several should have been standard operating practice. Again, not to fault the server necessarily.
We stop here on our second day in Montreal - we didn't know where to eat & we decided to give a try at least if the food is not good to have a nice view of the old port.
We arrived without reservation & we got a table with a great view. We needed an extra chair for our staff & the waiter accommodated this request. We get a good selection of meals & at the end we spent 90 excellent minutes with good drinks, good food & a great view . If you have a moment & you want to enjoy food view & drinks give a try & stop by.

We enjoyed an excellent lunch in June 2025. The lobster roll was excellent including the roll itself, & burger was very good. We were excited to return in September. We both ordered the lobster roll. OMG, what a disappointment! The roll itself was hard & tasteless like it was days old & warmed in the oven. The contents, well, the lobster looked it was out through a grinder with one piece of claw meat that was either overcooked & dry or day old. No flavor & I didn't eat the bread roll.
On top of this the server messed up our drink order (which we tolerated...it happens), but the emergency/fire alarm was activated. The alarm ran for several minutes without staff informing us what was happening (the restaurant was full). Did we need to leave??? The dessert was a weird concoction that was either days old or in the refrigerator; it did not resemble the menu description. & then, there was the yellow jacket bees swarming our table, food drinks, & face (we could understand this happening.)
Collectively, all these things added up to a very poor experience. Yes, we were disappointed.
Terrasse William Gray is easily one of the best dining spots in Old Port. The views are spectacular, the food is exceptional, & the service is truly outstanding. We'd been wanting to visit for quite some time, & I couldn't have picked a better day to finally go.
Since weekends are reserved for brunch, we enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken & waffles & a lobster benedict-both prepared perfectly. The drink selection was great as well, but what really stood out was the service.
We were looked after by David, who went above & beyond to make sure our experience was memorable. It's a special place where you feel genuinely welcomed, & I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
Went here for my partners birthday & they truly went above & beyond to surprise him at the end with a cake & the waiter who brought it out even sang him a little part of'happy birthday'. Was so sweet, very reasonably priced, great food & drinks with amazing views! Highly recommend this place!

I took my sister out for a little mid-afternoon brea, just the two of us, catching up over drinks at 3 p.m on a sunny Tuesday. Terrasse William Gray turning out to be the perfect spot.
We both ordered Mimosas which were not too sweet, & felt just right for the time of day. The terrace wasn't too busy yet, so we had a peaceful view over Old Montreal.
Our server, Camille, was such a gem. You could tell she cared about making sure people had a good time.
It was such a simple little outing, but honestly, one of those moments you want to repeat. We're already planning to make it a monthly ritual.
It was our two year anniversary & our first time at this restaurant & as soon as we got off the elevator & we're greeted at the front desk we knew it was going to be an experience.
Staff were very professional & kind which is important at any establishment.
The view... stunning. Montreal old port, the circus, the music, the people i could go on. Our waitress Kayna ! We need to give a special shout out to her!!! Warm, kind & made sure we had everything we needed, not to mention the complimentary drinks to celebrate our special evening, thank you so much we really appreciate you & are wishing you the best.
In terms of food, the presentation was beautiful & full of care. My partner got the tuna & it was delicious! I'm big on burgers & will recommend the William burger with DUCK BACON !...... DUCK BACON !!!

This is a cozy spot with a nice view. Drinks are fairly priced with a good variant. Convenient for both dates or friends get-together ! Service was on point thanks to our server Camille, she answered every demands with a smile.
En arrivant à l'accueil en sortant de l'ascenseur y'avait deux hôtesses, même pas un salut bonjour 😀 c'est nous qui a dit salut en premier, mon amie a dit qu'on a une réservation à 16h pour deux ( c'était mercredi le 9 juillet) l'hôtesse nous regarde comme si c'était pas vrai, elle regarde sur sa tablette comme si elle en trouve aucune & se retourne vers nous en disant c'est quoi le nom de la réservation !!! Mon amie dit le nom après elle dit ah oui veuillez me suivre…
Elle nous accorde une table en nous disant que vous avez que 1h30 pour manger, quand on a dit que c'était pas mentionné lors de la réservation elle a dit oui c'était mentionné ( on a pas vérifié ce genre de détails, par contre quand j'ai vérifié en rentrant chez moi c'était 2h pour les groupes de 6 & moins & pas 1h30!!!), elle nous a dit que vous avez 10 minutes de plus vue qu'on est arrivé 10 minutes à l'avance.
Donc pour commander on avait pas le droit au menu souper car c'était pas 16h . On a commandé de la burata & fritte pour commencer avé des drinks.
La nourriture arrive, le temps de manger c'est 30 minutes à peu près.
Je redemande le menu pour souper pour manger car on a pas vraiment beaucoup de temps, la serveuse a oublié de m'en apportez un, après un eye contact elle vient avec le menu en disant désolée j'ai oublié !
Après en voyant le temps qui nous restait ça valait pas la peine d'en commander, car je veux pas manger en courant pour terminer mon plat & le dessert.
On est sorties pour manger ailleurs , & à la sortie aussi les deux hôtesses même bonne soirée !
Je trouve ça dommage un tel accueil pas chaleureux dans un endroit pareil dans un hôtel au vieux port de Montréal,
La moindre des choses c'est le sourire! & l'accueil c'est la première impression qu'on reçoit si on est la bienvenue ou non!
This is a charming spot with great views but not for all tables. The food was excellent, drinks were okay. If you're in Old Montreal, book this place ahead of time.
