The Monkland Taverne is hands down of the all time great restaurants in Montreal, EVERYTIME I dine here I am blown away by the creativity & quality of the dishes Chef Josh & his team (Chris & Misha)produce from their kitchen. Barb marches quality in the front of house with warmth & precision to deliver an always phenomenal dining experience. Special shout out to Sabrina & Tanner for providing top tier service! Can't wait for the next visit!
An institution in NDG! I love this place. Great food & drinks.
I never visit Montreal without visiting this culinary institution. Extraordinary food, staff is A+, & the vibes can't be beat.
Première fois à la taverne monkland mais sûrement pas la dernière ! Nourriture excellente, tout est frais, plein de saveurs, portions généreuses, service aux petits soins, ambiance feutrée & chaleureuse, je recommande !!
The food is tasty, service great, the Walter was able to e plain the whole menu by heart with recommendations however is is over priced for what it is, paid 200$ for three on a main dish only without wine.
This is a must in Montreal! I have never had a bad meal or evening!
The ambiance & atmosphere are what attract people to The Tavern. It is the Monkland staple that Lucillies has to thank for the location being so popular & friendly. The service is on par with any of Montreal's best restaurants. The reason for 5 stars, the consistency of the table d'hote, the specials, the menu & overall food combined with the attentive service... The drinks are superb & unique along with that hard-to-get-a-seat-on terrace in the summer, which adds to an already great vibe.
Try the specials, I promise you they're worth every penny.
Ask the owner for a bottle of wine.
Great service & very good food. Love the cocktails. Miss the focaccia..
Great restaurant in NDG! Classic birthday or event destination. Give their specials a try. Wish they still had their warm cookie on the menu.
Absolutely splendid.
My first visit to Monkland Tavern did not disappoint. Right out the gate the ambiance & the service were spot on. Very professional wait staff that knew their shit.
Had a few oysters to start that were just OK. The beet salad with onion & almond & cabbage was such a great balance of flavors, but I did find the dish portion to be a little small. My main dish, the Ontario walleye was absolutely spectacular. Are you the best fish dish I've had in Montreal ever. My beautiful date got the tagliatelle shrimp pasta & though she wasn't thrilled, it was still quite good lol.
Would definitely go back!
Highly recommend the bavette steak & the dulce de leche cake with chantilly cream. It was absolutely delicious!!
Also tried the Rosemary Spritz mocktail which was very unique & pleasant.
Service exceptionnel. La nourriture était bonne quoi que dispendieux, surtout les entrés.
As newcomers in NDG, this was our first time at Taverne Monkland. Overall this was a mixed bag for us. On the definite positives, the place is beautiful & inviting. We also had fantastic service from our waitress, who explained the day's specials in detail & checked on us many times during our meal. Food wise though, some dishes were good (the tartare special with Calabrese "caviar") or great like the short rib with chasseur sauce, absolutely delicious. But others were bad & felt like they came from a different restaurant. The brassicas Caesar salad was dry & needed more dressing, but the real disappointment was their putanesca dish with freshly made noodles. It was mushy, very bland, tasted mostly like salt & parsley & lacked the punch a putanesca should have. The dessert was also so so (a pain perdu that really isn't a pain perdu). We live nearby so we'll definitely give the restaurant another try in the future & some of their dishes were definitely worth the visit.
I can't even begin to describe how much this restaurant goes above & beyond to make a night truly special. We celebrated my grandmother's 80th birthday here, & Chef Josh created an incredible menu that was both complex & beautifully simple at the same time. He made sure that every product served on the table was thoughtfully & geniusly sourced from somewhere in Quebec or close to home. That local mentality was shared with us through the stories behind each dish, adding so much depth & meaning to the experience. It was a meal that meant so much to me & my family, & the entire staff ensured everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. Thank you for making this celebration unforgettable!
Not a very varied menu. But what they do make is very fresh & tasty. Portions are good as well. The vibe & atmosphere is what makes this place. Extensive drink menu too. Parking is on street & in that neighborhood-good luck.
