Ta Chido Snack-bar mexicain serves authentic Mexican fare that many reviewers rate highly, with standout tacos and tortas such as the pulled pork torta and the torta pierna and al pastor tacos praised for flavor, freshness, and generous portions. The ambience is described as casual, lively, and eclectic with authentic touches and a small patio that enhance the dining experience. Service is mostly friendly and efficient, though a few guests note occasional delays or lapses like slow seating or missteps with glassware. Drinks and cocktails receive solid appreciation and the overall value and consistency of the food keep bringing guests back, with many calling it one of the best Mexican spots in Montreal. The place is regarded as a must-try casual destination for authentic Mexican flavors, even as some reviews mention occasional service hiccups and not every dish shining equally.
There's a display case full of King Kong & assorted vintage gorilla plastic toys. If that doesn't grab you & melt your heart, you're the real monster.
Family friendly, close by, run by total sweethearts, full of charm.
I get a couple of tacos & a boozy drink & I bump into friends & it's easy. My lady gets something different each time, what am I , her boss? She gets what she wants. My kid eats well too, he gets the Azteca Soup which is great.
Went for lunch today with my girlfriend & ordered the al pastor tacos. Best tacos I've had in Montreal so far. I am used to California Mexican food & this place rivals even the best I've had in SF or LA.
Update after 3 years: disappointed on the service tbh, we went inside the restaurant & waited for about 5 min to be greated. I wasn't sure it was open as I didn't see no one but yea some people were seated outside. Once I saw someone I asked if it's open, a hey said sure theirs people in front. No apologies for the wait...then we were brought dirty glasses which were changed. I took the soup Azteca, the soup was not as it used to be...it was cold & tasteless...the taco were tasteless I took the Chicanone with papas...I forced myself to eat. Sadly I won't be going back.
Older review:Good food, authentic Mexican food. Great drinks. Good service I was very pleased I will go back & even bring a friend ☺?
This casual mexican restaurant in mile end has a small patio & a well-decorated interior. Taco for taco the prices aren't great but the general menu prices are alright. The food was pretty good but with the abundance of Mexican restaurants in the city, it didn't particularly shine for me. Service was pretty inattentive as well. Had to wait quite some time for my bill after I finished my food. Could have easily left without paying but that's not something I do.
Delicious & generously portioned authentic Mexican tacos, excellent service, & outstanding drinks. Forget the snow outside-this place will make you feel like you're in the Riviera Maya!
The service was great. Food was good. Some tacos were better than others. The taco portions are small, so if you're hungry, you could easily eat 4 or more. I tried : Al Pastor, De Res, Mole. The mole was my least favorite. Their bathroom is not the most inviting, but it does the job. Besides that all was good.
I like the atmosphere here. The tacos are really good & fill you up. If you like sweet & sour flavour - the molle. When they still have guacamole, then Azteca Taco. The green mole is also fresh.
My friend & I had what might be one of the worst restaurant experiences we've ever had here last night. We're both vegetarian, & were excited about having multiple options for our meal! We decided to each try a vegan chorizo taco & share the tofu al pastor torta. We started with the tacos, which were delicious, but it quickly went downhill from there. I had the suspicion the torta had meat instead of tofu. When I sheepishly brought this up to the server, she said she couldn't tell, but brought it back to the kitchen just in case. After several minutes, (& we were the only two people in the restaurant!) she came back & said they were remaking the dish to be safe. When she brought it back, the new one was obviously tofu- which means we were certainly served meat. I'm a server myself, & would've been horrified at this mistake alone. But mistakes happen, & it's not the end of the world. My problem is that NOT ONCE did the server (or anyone else, for that matter) take accountability for her error or even muster up an apology. I consider this extremely bad service, especially after my friend approached her to express that it was insanely rude for her to have never even said sorry. She then continually lied to my friend, claiming that she apologized & "had no idea" it was meat. It's beyond wild that she simply couldn't own up to an incredibly simple mistake. In the end our bills weren't comped AT ALL. At least the terrible service distracted from the fact that we both ate meat after 8+ years of vegetarianism. (Saturday August 10th, 6 pm).

Great food & cocktails. Lots of menu variety but I keep going back to the same taco & tortilla soup because they are both so good. Service was also good. The place has a unique atmosphere & is a neighbourhood gem.
We went there on a Friday to have tacos, priced at 15$for 3 (available dine in only). It's the second time we've been here. Their tacos are simple but packed with flavors- you'll actually love them. Our personal favorite: al pastor, mole, cubana, & pierna. We ordered the quesadillas from the kid's menu. I would skip this because it tasted bland; my child did not bother having a second bite. They also forgot to give the apple juice that came with it, but that's alright. The service was excellent. We were seated outside & every now & then, the kind servers would check on us, making sure that everything was alright. 💯 Don't forget to drizzle your tacos with their homemade sauce that they give together with your order. :):)
Updated review, June 29th 2024 I had a torta today, the Cubana one, 22 dollars, taxes included. It's sad to see how quality is not top notch anymore. The bread was not fresh & the worst is that maybe in their rush to dispatch me they didn't even heat it up properly. I also noticed they put less stuff inside the torta, sad, because the price is quite high for a torta that poorly garnished. Anyway, today was the last time I visited this restaurant. Adieu, Ta Chido. -------------------------------------- So far the best tortas I have tried in Montréal. They make their own bread. Mole tacos were not that good for my taste, they were overloaded with flavour. Service is very good.
Service was friendly despite me wearing a Blue Jays hat lol. Ordered the steak tortilla & chicken mole taco. Overall both were quite tasty & fresh made to order. The sauces offered were quite hot to add some heat! Went with the non hot chipotle sauce
