This used to be my favorite place! They have very good pastries, the sandwiches were amazing. They had daily fresh bread, salads & fine european products of all sorts. The place was looking more & more run down in the past years & now it is closed. Hopefully they do the renovations this place deserves to reinstate it's original grandeur!

Swiss Vienna was once a Neat Place for Good Pasteries & European Foods...But Lately things haven't been the same as it was 30 yrs ago or more...Since the Covid scam..The Patisserie had slowed down with the Dell & European goods ..& things just didn't seem good...Especially with the owner..Harry was a Gentle Man he tried To bring in the Nice Things for Christmas..But on a lower level...& it just didn't get going well enough...Also he had to Contend with the Language Laws of our Province of Quebec & Make the Signs mostly in French...& also their were complaints about the Store being dirty & Seeing of Mice..& I'll leave it as that...But the many years... It was a Popular place to go...Now GONE FOREVER...& it's NOT TEMPORARY..

Unfortunately, I can't recommend. I was going to pick up some pickled herring from a fridge only to discover that there was a malfunction & everything was hot in the fridge. I reported to the owner... two weeks later...I checked again only to discover exactly same thing. Last year they paid 13k in fines for dirty equipment, bugs & rodents. Not safe.

Service was great. Bought 6 pastries & they were good. Not great because a couple of them seemed a little dry. Monday is not the ideal day to go because it's most likely leftovers from the weekend. I would give it another try but on a Saturday.

Unfortunately their regular baker didn't make my cake. This is the second time that the cake hasn't been like how it used to be. Whoever your new baker is, they don't do it right. Tastes nothing like how it used to be. The past couple of years it has been hit or miss. Sadly, I think I need to find another place.

Old review:
I have been enjoying Swiss Vienna buttercream birthday cakes my whole life. This place is the absolute best. No other buttercream birthday cake can compare. Please don't ever close. & keep Chef Pascal, because apparently he makes the cake the way it should be.

All served with a multilingual culture a pleasure for all. Take the time to speak with the staff & learn the history of the shop...This is always on my visit thru Montreal.
