Sumo Ramen is a warm and cozy restaurant located in the heart of Chinatown on Boulevard St. Laurent. This restaurant's specialties are the authentic Japanese soups with the choice of fresh home made ramen noodle or thick udon noodle. If desiring something other than soups try out their stir fried noodles as well as their generously served rice plates. Many Sumo Ramen lovers would indulge themselves in ordering the delicious Japanese pan-fried dumplings.
Craving a light snack in the midst of an afternoon? Just go up to enjoy a bubble tea and pick something from the large choices of mouth-watering appetizers! Having a sweet tooth after the main course? Pig out and order the fried bananas or the fried ice cream! All these healthy and yummy dishes present you with the real Japanese Cuisine.
Sumo Ramen offers a nice and appropriate atmosphere for families with children, group of friends and couples on dates. Be ready to be welcomed by their courteous staff ensuring you a wonderful culinary experience! Bon appetite!
Sumo Ramen is widely praised for flavorful broths, generous portions, and a diverse menu that includes both classic and inventive ramens plus vegetarian options, with homemade kimchi and chili crisp singled out as house specialties. Reviewers consistently commend friendly, attentive service and a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere that blends traditional Japanese and modern design, with several noting the bright, recently renovated space on the lower floor. The restaurant's Chinatown Montreal location is described as lively and convenient, offering fast service and good value for money, and many diners say the dishes hit the spot on cold days or after a long day of sightseeing. Standout orders include miso or tonkotsu based ramens, spicy beef variants, and well-executed sides like karaage, gyoza, and appetizers; some note that the price can feel high for the size, while others remark that the broth, noodles, and toppings are consistently satisfying and customizable. Overall, Sumo Ramen emerges as a reliable, popular choice in Montreal's ramen scene, though a few visits mention inconsistent taste or service after changes in location.
Ramen restaurant in the heart of Montreal's chinatown. The ramen broth was ok, the soup was not as thick as what I'm used to. The noodles were like instant noodles texture. However, the beef was delicious! It wasn't the typical ramen meat but more of a Chinese style. The place felt a bit cramped, also there was no AC.

EDIT: Since I'm dumb - the owners were kind enough to tell me that the'expiry date' on the Soju is a sale date from SAQ, rather than an expiration date. So I've deleted that section - thank you!
Yeah .. this one didn't do it for me. Not worth the trek up the stairs.
Right from the start our server was super unfriendly. She barely looked or spoke to us the whole time.
I could typically overlook the crumby service, but the Sumo ramen was ok at best. It was all noodles, no toppings. It desperately needed more seaweed, bean sprouts, anything aside from more noodles. It even could use more broth. The broth itself was fine. The noodles were fine. It was all just OK.
I would try somewhere else. There was nothing special here, unfortunately.
This place is an absolute gem! The staff is incredibly friendly they took the time to explain all the different ramen options & toppings, which made the experience even better. But most importantly, the ramen itself was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this spot & will definitely be coming back very soon!
I had the pleasure of dining here while on at a convention in May/June 2025.
The broth(I had chicken based Sezhuan (sp?) broth) & YES!!!! It tasted like homemade broth! The noodles were fresh made & tasty. Very good value for the price. I went there twice.
Feels like a hole in the wall but it's delicious! got the mushroom ramen & my partner got the beef ramen. Loved that the broth & noodles could be customized. They thoughtfully ensured my meal was vegetarian with all ingredients which I appreciated. Absolutely delicious!
I tried the ramen goberge. The broth was good & ingredients but I do find the ramen lacked flavour dept. I know some customers enjoy the taste & finds it flavourful enough, so it is a good ramen spot for someone who likes the taste. The service was impeccable same for atmosphere

I had the grilled chicken ramen bowl & the broth was mind blowing. The chicken had the perfect char & had that smoky flavour. 10/10. The tempura was excellent. Katsu curry was also decent.
Sumo Ramen Located in a hart of Chineese District close to Old Montreal.
A very busy location with fast friendly service.
Ramen can fill you up & warm you in cold wintery days.
Very tasty spicy beef Ramen...
But if they say spicy...it's REALLY spicy!.
Very nice experience
The appetizer items (takoyaki, gyoza & fried shrimp dumplings) we're excellent, the soup was pretty good but overall basic. The ramen egg was a bit overdone. It was still a good place to eat, I would try it again. The service was amazing & very attentive!
