Souvlaki Bar Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Restaurant: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
GreekMediterraneanGrillResto-Bar

Review Summary

Reviews of Souvlaki Bar describe a lively Greek dining spot with a warm atmosphere, nice decor, and a European feel that makes guests feel transported; the atmosphere, large tables, and good music are repeatedly highlighted, and the food is generally described as delicious with generous portions and strong value for money. Dishes such as grilled octopus, roasted peppers, salads, fries, and warm pita receive praise for freshness and flavor, though some items are noted as not being the best pita, feta lacking authenticity, and a few dishes being overly salty or fatty. Service is consistently praised for being friendly, fast, and accommodating, especially during large groups or special occasions, with quick resolution of any hiccups. Overall the consensus is that Souvlaki Bar delivers a solid Greek dining experience with flavorful food, high energy ambiance, and generous portions that encourage sharing, and many reviews note a desire to return for another meal despite a few quibbles with specific components.

We ordered the chicken souvlaki platter. I was looking forward to a good ´ol souvlaki with tzatziki & a nice Greek salad on the side. We ordered 2 chicken souvlakis in pita, looking to share the rest. The waitress told us there would be a $3 surcharge because we would each get our own dish with potatoes, etc. I was ok with that.

What was delivered was 1 dish with 2 empty plates. The meat insides was not chicken souvlaki from a skewer but shawarma carvings. The waitress was nice & offered to change it, but I learned to never return a dish. I figured it would be a few dollars cheaper.

The sauce was ok, but not the delicious tzatziki that I love. Potatoes were very good. The most disappointing was the salad. It was not Greek at all - it was iceberg lettuce with a tiny piece of feta & a few slim slice sof tomato with a lousy dressing (& way too much dressing). We picked at it but left most of the salad untouched. I was hoping for an authentic Greek salad of tomatoes, onion, feta, olives,…

When we were ready to leave, it was taking a while before we saw our waitress, so we went indoors to the cash register. I stood there for a while watching our waitress come & go. She never noticed that we left our table & never noticed me standing there for a while. Eventually another employee noticed, addressed me & told our waitress we were waiting to pay.

The last disappointment was with the bill - turns out the gyros chicken carvings were the same price as chicken skewers (brochettes). How disappointing.

It seems that every Greek restaurant I try these days is a disappointing Americanized version of Greek. I’ll continue to search for a restaurant that serves authentic Greek.
