*THE OWNER SAYS SLAVERY MANY TIMES *
When I saw the video on Instagram, I was honestly shocked & completely at a loss for words.
It's 2026. How are we still casually using the word'slavery' to describe being a tired, overwhelmed mom & entrepreneur?
Being exhausted, overworked, overwhelmed, or struggling to balance motherhood & entrepreneurship is valid. But comparing those experiences to slavery - repeatedly, in a video barely over a minute long - is completely inappropriate. There are countless other words available to express those feelings without trivializing something with such a painful historical meaning.
& whether the owner has Black children, a Black partner, or Black people in her life is irrelevant. This is not about accusing anyone of being racist. It is about understanding that proximity to a community does not make every choice of language acceptable.
It was extremely disappointing &, frankly, shameful to hear. Shameful on so many levels. Businesses need to be mindful of the communities they serve & the language they use publicly. Words have meaning, history, & impact.
We would immediately recognize the problem with casually using deeply stigmatizing language associated with many other communities. The same consideration should apply here.
Normalizing this kind of language is insensitive, hurtful, & unacceptable.
My partner & I had lunch/brunch here. He devoured his nachos au poulet & smoothie banane. I loved my avocat feta dish & smoothie fruits. I ended with the date & oats pastry, & I recommend it as much as all the other food! So glad we stopped in.
My family of 8 had breakfast here during the F1 race in May 2026. 5 stars all around! Atmosphere is out of this world.
Amazing breakfast here. Salad or fruit included with very healthy & high quality tasting sandwiches when you get the combo. Even the filter coffee tasted way better than usual. Very nice atmosphere inside & outside as well.
Malheureusement car ca semblait tellement un bel endroit.'Last time here guys. Sorry'
I stayed in Montreal at a nearby hotel for a week & went to SoLit every morning with coworkers. Amazing casual dining with an easy breakfast menu. They have gluten free baked goods & made each of my hot breakfasts gluten free (with gf bread!) no problem. I learned afterwards that this is a woman owned restaurant so bonus points! Every sign is in French first, as is Montreal law, & there's English translation for the American tourists who don't know French. Love this place & 100% will return on my next business trip!
We were walking around looking for a place for breakfast. While on our way to another place, we came across this place & decided to stop here instead. We all really enjoyed the food & sitting outside was a bonus. Don't know if I will be back in Montreal anytime soon but if I do, I will return.
