I was happy to see another restaurant opened up at my Monk Street neighborhood & had high hopes. I ordered the Kafta plate & was told that it would take up to 20 minutes, which was fine with me. I also ordered a pita sandwich for my friend & asked that it be served first because my friend only had 30 minutes.
After seeing that various sandwiches were done for people that ordered after me, I reminded that the sandwich needed to be served first. My request was totally ignored & in the end the Kafta plate & sandwich were ready & served together. My friend had no time to eat & only ate 1/3. Service & communication is lacking here.
The food - beef pita sandwich was good.
My kafta was a bit too salty & not moist at all, it was very hard.
My other problem was with the plastic forks & knives that they provide. They were such low quality & were so soft that they were quite unusable, it was very difficult to cut into the hard kafta. See my video.
Overall, there are better choices nearby for this kind of cuisine, but I hope they will improve & I may come back.

Finally tried Shawarma Moods on Monk Street & it did not disappoint.

I wrote to them on Instagram right away to tell them how fantastic they really are !

The chicken shawarma is incredibly well seasoned & juicy, with that perfect balance of spices. Everything tasted super fresh the potatoes were crispy, the garlic sauce was amazing, & the pickled turnips added that perfect tangy bite.

You can really tell they care about quality & flavor here. As someone who loves trying new spots around Montreal, this one instantly stood out. I first saw their viral crispy sandwich online & knew I had to try them & now it's officially next on my list.

So happy to have a spot like this in the neighborhood on Monk Street. Highly recommend if you're craving authentic, flavorful shawarma.

Pieces of advice, if you don't want to have to put a lot of meat on your shawarma beef burger try a smaller bun. I was disappointed to discover that the huge burger which costs more than a pita probably has less meat on/in it. The literally put the meat all around the outer edge, but when I opened the burger there were only vegetables & sauce in the middle, no meat. I doubt I even got more than 90g of meat. The taste was ok, but the bun was dry & didn't add anything to the meal. In fact I was going to leave the bun & just eat the filling, which is how I discovered the disingenuous deception. The garlic potatoes were ok taste wise, but soggy mush. The toum to go with the potatoes was fine, but pretty standard, nothing to blow me away. On the upside, they filled a void on Monk boulevard that has struggled to be anything long since Videotron video rentals closed down. Don't believe the slick look, they aren't really a premium version of the bog standard kebab shop. If shawarma or shish taouk is the kind of food you're after, try seeking out a Boustan instead.
