Sabaidee! Welcome to Sep Lai! We serve traditional Laotian food using many local ingredients to create unique and authentic dishes. As is the norm in Laos, all our dishes are made to be shared! Although you may find similarities with other Southeast Asian dishes such as Thai or Vietnamese dishes, Lao cuisine is a distinct cuisine with its own complex and exciting flavors. Full of fresh herbs, raw vegetables, flavorful meats and always accompanied by a basket of sticky rice, we are proud to share this cuisine with everyone, including vegans, vegetarians and those sensitive to gluten! We hope that the dishes of our parents and grandparents will inspire you with the same comfort and joy as they do us, and that you will exclaim: "Sep lai! It was delicious!"
Our Specialties
Spring rolls, Imperial rolls, Khao Poon soup, Papaya salad, Laap, Som Pak, Lao burger & Winter melon noodle soup.
Sep Lai is a charming Laotian spot where sharing plates and aromatic notes of citronella, coriander and ginger set a travel inspired mood, especially on the cozy back terrace. Dishes like khao poon, nem khao, laap and a fragrant coconut curry showcase fresh ingredients, generous portions and good value, with many noting the option to bring your own wine adds to the relaxed vibe. The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, with friendly service that suits dinners, dates and groups alike, and the terrace is a favourite in nicer weather. Occasional comments mention saltier preparations or slower service when busy, but the overall experience is consistently praised for tasty, well balanced flavors and a welcoming neighbourhood feel that invites return.
This became one of my favourite restaurants last night. The tasting menu was fantastic. The staff was really nice, accommodating us with vegetarian options, & explaining the menu thoroughly. It's a beautifully decorated place where you can bring a big party, yet it felt intimate & private.

This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's a real gem! Food was insanely delicious. Everything, & I mean everything, we tried was amazing. Service was friendly & helpful. BYOB as well! Cannot recommend highly enough.
Don't get the Thai tea. It's just mainly condensed milk & it doesn't taste Thai tea. I'm not certain the tasting menu for 47$ each is worth it. We were 4 & the portion does't seem right. I feel like ordering individual dishes might be better. Really cute place, good service. Food is ok, worth to try, but needs work.
Everything was absolutely delicious. Especially outstanding: the fried tofu, Kua Mee, vegetarian meatballs & crème brûlée. Service was outstanding & BYOW to boot?! Wonderful. Will be back ASAP.
An absolute gem of a find. Food was extremely fresh & savoursul, service was friendly & quick & prices were estreemly reasonable! Great experience A-Z!
Good service & good food overall. The place is not very big , but it is nice. Is a BYOW / BYOB ( bring your own wine ) restaurant. Prices are decent as well, not expensive. Dishes are small & can be easily shared. Verdict : give it a try.
Adorable & charming restaurant with delicious food, super friendly service & a lovely atmosphere. Everything is also very reasonably priced. Can't wait to try their terrace in the summer.
Cute bring your own wine restaurant. Service was good. We had a reservation, everything went well, atmosphere is relaxed & it's a good place to talk. The food was not amazing but I would return.
Everything we tried was delicious, especially the tau huu tod & the Sai oua meatballs! Really nice cozy set up with lots of smaller rooms & nice decor. & if the Pandan crème brûlée is on the menu, don't question, just get it & enjoy. An excellent dinner treat!
We went as a group of 6! We were suggested the tasting menu & it was amazing from start to finish. The meatballs & sauce were to die for, the crispy rice also really good, & the surprise dessert was top notch. As a Vietnamese person, this Lao restaurant made me question whether It is better than all Vietnamese restaurants in Montreal. Service was also very amicable & responsive! Def recommended!
We celebrated my friend's 40th birthday at Sep Lai last weekend. They are super great at accommodating big groups. We were 23 people which meant we could reserve two rooms allowing us to walk around & mingle freely. We didn't want to host the type of event where you're stuck sitting in the same place the whole night. We had a lot of fun & the food was great.
J'apprécie l'endroit, le personnel & le style de nourriture malgré un petit désagrément avec les ailes de poulet. La petite attention de leur part à la fin du repas pour rectifier le tir m'a bcp impressionné. Nous y retournerons! Merci.
