Generous pickle order & great fries. We went during the off hours, & weren't rushed.View more
Worth the visit! Food is really good, I've tried the sandwich & the poutine, delicious! There's a long queue outside the restaurant anytime but it's worth it. Definitely a must go place when you visit Montreal. The environment is too crowded tho, it ruin the experience a bit, hopefully can arrange better seat in the future.View more
Got the regular smoked meat sandwich with Mustard for about $13.00. One of the best meat cuts I've ever had & one of the greatest use of Mustard complimenting meat in taste. Attendant at cash register was a little difficult to communicate with not properly paying attention to me. She crumpled up almost threw my receipt in the garbage despite me telling her not to.View more
I only order the fatty sandwich but enjoy it once a yeaView more
This was hands down one of the best Montreal-style sandwiches & poutines I've ever had! The flavours were incredible, with the sandwich perfectly stacked with tender, flavourful meat, & the poutine had just the right balance of crispy fries, rich gravy, & gooey cheese curds. The place was worth the wait in line, as the vibrant, bustling atmosphere added to the experience. While the prices were slightly higher, the quality & taste made it worth it. It's a spot I'd gladly return to for a memorable meal.View more
I would recommend it only if you've never had a smoked meat sandwich before. We came to try one of Montreal's signature dishes, & while the smoked meat was flavorful, the combination with the toast didn't feel all that special to me. Maybe it is one of the best options for smoked meat sandwiches, but if I had other choices, I wouldn't go back. That said, it's worth trying at least once if you haven't had it before.View more
I can't recommend this place, but did not have the heart to tell my server I didn't like the smoked meat sandwich. It's obvious the staff pride themselves in their work, but the sandwich & overall experience just wasn't good. The sandwich was soooo fatty, & not caramelized fatty or rendered fatty. Just gross looking fat. The mustard was just cheap yellow mustard. The poutine was decent & the best part of the meal. The pickles were standard, but I thought it was silly to receive just two pickles for that price. They should just embed the cost in the price of the sandwich so customers have something for "free." There was food underneath our table & the place had a weird smell, so I feel like it's not the cleanest. If you are familiar with other famous delis that sell coveted smoked meat sandwiches, just know that this place doesn't compare at all & will probably disappoint you.View more
The smoked meat isn't too salty, & the sandwich is pretty good. The biggest surprise was the poutine-unexpectedly delicious! Highly recommend!View more
Schwartz's in Montreal is the ultimate destination for smoked meat lovers. Their legendary sandwich is a must-try, packed with juicy, flavorful meat & a touch of mustard. Fast service, nostalgic vibes, & unforgettable food make this spot a classic. Full Review: Schwartz's delivers a dining experience that's as rich in history as it is in flavor. The cramped seating, where you might share a table with strangers, adds to the charm of this old-school deli. The walls are lined with photos of famous patrons & newspaper clippings, giving the place a lively & nostalgic atmosphere. The menu keeps it simple, focusing on their iconic Montreal smoked meat. The sandwich is a masterpiece-piled high with tender, flavorful meat & just the right amount of mustard. It pairs perfectly with a pickle, & if you're dining with a companion, sharing an order of fries & coleslaw is more than satisfying. Service is impressively quick, even during peak hours, & the staff are casual & friendly, making you feel right at home. The deli embodies a time when decor took a backseat to exceptional food, & Schwartz's proves that great taste never goes out of style. If you've never been, make Schwartz's your next foodie destination. It's an experience you won't forget.View more
A must eat in Montreal! I come back to Montreal just for this 🤩 Their smoked meat sandwich & dill pickles are so good.View more
We arrived at this place seeing a long line up of people but don't fret! There's another side to this establishment that serves customers who only wish for food to go. This was incredibly convenient for us since we were just aiming for the sandwiches. The takout line moved like a conveyor belt thanks to the speed & accuracy of the cooks! They pile your sandwich with a ridiculous amount of meat (in terms of meat to bread ratio) so make sure you hold on to this vessel of juicy flavor. Meat that falls apart at the first bite & a nice mustard to cut into the richness. Would come back again to Montreal just for this place. Loved it!View more
I came here because a friend recommended Schwartz's Deli & their famous smoked meat sandwich. I was lucky to get a seat at the „bar" with a good view on the meat. The guy behind the counter was really friendly, taking the time to introduce all the options they have, & what the famous specialities are. I went for the smoked meat sandwich, with a portion of fries. My meal came really quickly, & I must say: it was sensational! The sandwich was so packed with meat, that it was impossible to eat it with my hands. I went for fork & knife. The delicious meat with mustard & some bread was the perfect combination. Not dry, not super moist, but exactly at the right point. The fries were crispy, & really the cherry on the top. I took a Canada Dry out of the glas bottle with it - perfect really. A glas-bottled Canada Dry. As simple as that. Prices are relatively high if you order all that, but it's worth every penny in my opinion. Outstanding experience, great vibe, sensational food!View more
Smoked meat sandwich is to die for, & you are served within seconds of ordering. Will be back.View more
Far be it from me to bad mouth an institution but here goes: I'm sorry to say it but the Smoked Meat sandwich is too dry. There is the lightest schmear of mustard on it, but the bread absorbs it entirely. The meat IS tender, credit where credit is due. It falls apart in your mouth but it is not what I would call juicy. But the sandwich was small but sufficient. Additionally, I personally, didn't particularly like the pickles, & found them rubbery. Also, the macaroni salad is the pretty standard fare from any deli anywhere (meaning, if you were expecting any novelty on that front, I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you, but prepare to be disappointed). Unfortunately, the overall the experience was lackluster. If there were fixins I could have added to the sandwich ameliorate the dryness, I was unaware. All that said, the service is good & the employees were pleasant. Oh yeah, & the cherry soda is really pretty good. The last thing I'll say (particularly for any New Yorkers reading): comparisons to a certain deli are overstated. Definitely enjoy (or not) this Montreal fixture on its own merits.View more
Came here around 12 PM & waiting 10 mins to be seated. Place inside was crowded, very little space to move around after being seated. Service was quick & attentive. We ordered the smoked sandwich (most famous item) & the meat was good though it lacked some flavor. We also ordered the steak (too salty) & chicken (too bland) combo. The poutine was good.View more
Go by flow....my relatives said this is the famous deli serving the best smoked meat sandwich in Montreal. Yes, it's looks famous after acknowledged by so many old newspapers & posters pasted on the walls. It has two shoplots; one for dine-in & another for takeout or quick-bite at the counter. After 11 am is impossible for us to get a table. An old shop condition, ambient isn't pleasant, very squeezy with crowded of people queuing. Washroom beside the counter is busy too. Omg! first-time to see so much smoked meats piling up with two thinly bread. Really need to praise for their freshie pinky smoked meat. But the price for this sandwich isn't cheap, so as everything here. Anyway, already tourist spot. We also ordered poutine.....it tastes so good & quite filling ( in my opinion, poutine better than smoked meat sandwich. Lots of smoked meat given too ).View more

La viande est tendre mais je m'attendais à tellement mieux avec un goût plus original & authentique, un peu sur côté & & cher (55$ pour 1 poutine 1 sandwich & 1 canette)View more

The ubiquitous smoke meat sandwich is a core food group to any Montreal'er. At least that's how I view it. It's one of those dishes I miss from my hometown. It's a dish that never goes out of style. Schwartz' has been around a long time & as you can see it's popular. Savor the tender smoked brisket done the Montreal way, I doubt you'll regret it.View more
For those confused about this place, I'll shed some light. First, why it's popular & second the quality of the food, & why people get these quite different things mixed up. Popularity: The smoked meat sandwich is a big deal because it's a LOT of meat, which makes the price of 14.50 + tax "good, not great" in my books. This, along with the long line (which can be bypassed for takeout) & "no frills" atmosphere make it different & fun. It's an institution, it's original, it has character, & the line of tourists (notably, not many locals) draw attention & adds to the hype. There is value in hype, I respect that. But.. The meat: Usually, when good meat is slow cooked, the connective tissue softens ending in a "melt in your mouth" effect. Schwartz is not that unfortunately. They are clearly aware, as they try to compensate for the dry texture by including a bit of extra fat. It gets about half way there. The sandwich: A good sandwich is about balance. The mustard has a decent sweet tang, & the bread (seemed slightly stale) offsets the tough meat somewhat. A pickle would go a really long way though, or any kind of acidity really. My stomach is struggling hours later due to the tough lean protein... be warned! Conclusion: If you want a lot of meat that looks cool & is an experience, do it. If you just want a good, tasty & balanced sandwich & aren't impressed by the hype & the vibe...eh. There's a place on Mt Royal that is far superior, cheaper & bakes their own sandwich rolls fresh. Forget the name, but it's on the Jeanne Mance side & that line is 100% about the food. Edit: It's called Kahwa Cafe & is rightfully rated better than Schwartz. Granted it's different, but I'd wage 9/10 people would be better off going there.View more
shoutout George! he's a real one, made the experience 10x better. The smoked meat sandwich was unforgettable, lovely experience! Had to buy a Schwartz's t-shirt on the way out!View more
