Very popular place for Montreal smoked meat sandwiches! Very small, old deli with big history. Delicious food!
Service is very friendly!View more
Like an old time N.Y. deli, Schwartz's did not disappoint. The smoked beef sandwich is large enough to share.View more
Yikes it smelled terrible as soon as you enter food is below average worse than supermarket deli meats why would some one in this day & age come & dine here? I got swayed by the reviews but pls people stay clear of this place it is really badView more
Smoked meat is the best. Not as salty as a pastrami & you can choose lean or fatty. They serve typical deli fare but of the highest quality. Def worth a quick trip to Montreal if you need a fixView more
BEST SANDWICHES!!!!! These guys have one of the best smoked meat sandwiches I've ever had, definitely worth the trip to go down to Montréal. This place is a deli, & is decorated as such, the tables & seating make the experience very intimate with other people. The sandwiches are worth the money that you spend on it, you get a thick sandwich that's heated up & fills you up.
The server who took my order did speak both English & French, which is great if you speak either language & want to travel here. I did take an Uber to this location, I can't guarantee what the parking situation is like in this area.
This deli also has a separate room that has their products on display that you can purchase to bring home with you! I did end up purchasing a slab of their smoked beef, there are instructions on the package that I can heat up later.
If you're ever in the Montreal area, this needs to be on your bucket list of places to go & eat at! Worth your time to come & check out. Worth your money, too. Highly recommend!View more
It was my first time ever being there & I was not disappointed. I was very impressed & would highly recommend everyone visit Schwartz Deli.View more
Schwartz's Deli is a true Montreal institution & an essential stop for anyone visiting the city. Nestled in the heart of the Plateau, the deli is surrounded by eclectic shops & fashionable boutiques, making it a vibrant part of the neighborhood. Its laid-back, communal vibe has long been a favorite for both locals & visitors, no matter the season, offering a one-of-a-kind experience every time.
The smoked meat sandwich, paired with a pickle & a black cherry soda, is an absolute must-try-it's easily one of the best in town. During our visit, we were lucky to have an excellent server, she was extremely attentive & friendly. Though the place was bustling, there's a welcoming atmosphere where you can easily share a table & strike up conversations with fellow diners.View more
I recently ordered the famous smoked meat sandwich from Schwartz's Deli through UberEats, & I can now understand why there's always a massive line in front of their store! As new residents of the neighborhood, we've passed by countless times & were always curious, but after finally trying it, I can say it was absolutely worth the wait! The smoked meat was tender, flavorful, & perfectly seasoned, with just the right amount of spice. The bread was fresh & held everything together beautifully. Every bite was a delicious experience. It's definitely become a new favorite, & I'll be ordering again soon! Highly recommend it to anyone nearby or visiting. You won't be disappointed!View more
Excellent Smoked Meat. However unseasoned fries & Questionable Poutine. Remember the Deli has 2 lines one for dine in & another for take out. Be sure which line you are standing in.View more
I can't recommend this place, but did not have the heart to tell my server I didn't like the smoked meat sandwich. It's obvious the staff pride themselves in their work, but the sandwich & overall experience just wasn't good. The sandwich was soooo fatty, & not caramelized fatty or rendered fatty. Just gross looking fat. The mustard was just cheap yellow mustard. The poutine was decent & the best part of the meal. The pickles were standard, but I thought it was silly to receive just two pickles for that price. They should just embed the cost in the price of the sandwich so customers have something for "free." There was food underneath our table & the place had a weird smell, so I feel like it's not the cleanest. If you are familiar with other famous delis that sell coveted smoked meat sandwiches, just know that this place doesn't compare at all & will probably disappoint you.View more
Schwartz's in Montreal is the ultimate destination for smoked meat lovers. Their legendary sandwich is a must-try, packed with juicy, flavorful meat & a touch of mustard. Fast service, nostalgic vibes, & unforgettable food make this spot a classic. Full Review: Schwartz's delivers a dining experience that's as rich in history as it is in flavor. The cramped seating, where you might share a table with strangers, adds to the charm of this old-school deli. The walls are lined with photos of famous patrons & newspaper clippings, giving the place a lively & nostalgic atmosphere. The menu keeps it simple, focusing on their iconic Montreal smoked meat. The sandwich is a masterpiece-piled high with tender, flavorful meat & just the right amount of mustard. It pairs perfectly with a pickle, & if you're dining with a companion, sharing an order of fries & coleslaw is more than satisfying. Service is impressively quick, even during peak hours, & the staff are casual & friendly, making you feel right at home. The deli embodies a time when decor took a backseat to exceptional food, & Schwartz's proves that great taste never goes out of style. If you've never been, make Schwartz's your next foodie destination. It's an experience you won't forget.View more
I came here because a friend recommended Schwartz's Deli & their famous smoked meat sandwich. I was lucky to get a seat at the „bar" with a good view on the meat. The guy behind the counter was really friendly, taking the time to introduce all the options they have, & what the famous specialities are. I went for the smoked meat sandwich, with a portion of fries. My meal came really quickly, & I must say: it was sensational! The sandwich was so packed with meat, that it was impossible to eat it with my hands. I went for fork & knife. The delicious meat with mustard & some bread was the perfect combination. Not dry, not super moist, but exactly at the right point. The fries were crispy, & really the cherry on the top. I took a Canada Dry out of the glas bottle with it - perfect really. A glas-bottled Canada Dry. As simple as that. Prices are relatively high if you order all that, but it's worth every penny in my opinion. Outstanding experience, great vibe, sensational food!View more
Far be it from me to bad mouth an institution but here goes: I'm sorry to say it but the Smoked Meat sandwich is too dry. There is the lightest schmear of mustard on it, but the bread absorbs it entirely. The meat IS tender, credit where credit is due. It falls apart in your mouth but it is not what I would call juicy. But the sandwich was small but sufficient. Additionally, I personally, didn't particularly like the pickles, & found them rubbery. Also, the macaroni salad is the pretty standard fare from any deli anywhere (meaning, if you were expecting any novelty on that front, I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you, but prepare to be disappointed). Unfortunately, the overall the experience was lackluster. If there were fixins I could have added to the sandwich ameliorate the dryness, I was unaware. All that said, the service is good & the employees were pleasant. Oh yeah, & the cherry soda is really pretty good. The last thing I'll say (particularly for any New Yorkers reading): comparisons to a certain deli are overstated. Definitely enjoy (or not) this Montreal fixture on its own merits.View more
Amazing stuff, one of the best restaurants I've been to in my life, deli meats are amazingView more
I hesitate to write this review, especially given the restaurant's iconic status, but I owe it to the locals & visitors alike. After giving it a second try to make sure, it's clear this place isn't what it used to be. Once renowned for its craftsmanship, today the sandwiches feel rushed, with inconsistently sliced meat-sometimes too thick, & often too dry. The once-perfect balance of flavor has been replaced by a lean, lackluster bite that disappoints. To add to the frustration, the wait times are long, & the prices are steep. It's hard not to feel that the focus has shifted, prioritizing tourists over loyal locals, leaving the food & experience a shadow of its former self. For those seeking an authentic & satisfying deli experience, I recommend giving Lester's Deli a try-you'll taste the difference.View more
Go by flow....my relatives said this is the famous deli serving the best smoked meat sandwich in Montreal. Yes, it's looks famous after acknowledged by so many old newspapers & posters pasted on the walls. It has two shoplots; one for dine-in & another for takeout or quick-bite at the counter. After 11 am is impossible for us to get a table. An old shop condition, ambient isn't pleasant, very squeezy with crowded of people queuing. Washroom beside the counter is busy too. Omg! first-time to see so much smoked meats piling up with two thinly bread. Really need to praise for their freshie pinky smoked meat. But the price for this sandwich isn't cheap, so as everything here. Anyway, already tourist spot. We also ordered poutine.....it tastes so good & quite filling ( in my opinion, poutine better than smoked meat sandwich. Lots of smoked meat given too ).View more
Old times deli...1928 to be exact. Great service & outstanding sandwichView more
Visited Schwartz Deli holidaying in Montreal for 2 days. This restaurant is one must try & not to be missed. We had juicy, Smoked Meat Sandwich, full of flavour. Most popular sandwich for the first timers. Highly recommend! Coleslaw made with vinegar was tge idel side for the sandwich. We had A&W cold Root Beer.View more
Schwartz' Deli is an iconic Montreal restaurant that is known for its smoked meat. Expect to wait in a line which, in our case, moved quote quickly. All of this is for good reason! The smoked meat is the best I've ever had (& I've had smoked meat in NYC, Atlanta, Nashville, Austin & throughout Florida, too name a few places). People share a table seating 6. I ordered a side of cole slaw ( which is solely vinegar based & very tasty!) The star, the smoked meat, is tender, flavorful & ample in sandwich serving size, if you don't opt for a small plate or a large plate. Be advised that the Cherry Cola is "Cott," not Coca Cola. It is a our now tasty than Cherry Coke. You MUST eat smoked meat at Schwartz' Deli if you are in Montreal & want quality smoked meat!! I will return when next I visit!View more
Classic Montréal deli with excellent smoked meat. It has the kind of atmosphere that other places try to simulate. Plan on an early lunch or late breakfast to avoid long lines. The classic order is the smoked meat sandwich with a cherry cola. Popular sides include sour kosher pickles & Cole slaw. It's one of those classic meals you have to have a least once.View more
Finally got to try this place out, overall not bad. Don't think it lives up to the hype as we had Lester's Deli the day before & that one was much better overall.View more
A local told me Montreal has the best bagels & smoked meats in the world - now as a snobbish New Yorker, I raised an eyebrow. I have to try this classic deli serving smoked meats in order to corroborate. Even in the ungodly heat of this Monday afternoon the line was long - pro tip: go through the takeout counter & save you some time, they have some seating in the back. I tried the poutine Schwartz style - a classic poutine with a heaping serving of smoked meat. The meat was tender, smoky & not salty at all, but still flavorful. You can get your smoked meat fix here for sure, if you're a NYer craving a pastrami sandwich. It won't disappoint. Now, is it better than the delis back home? I plead the 5th.View more
After travelling from New York & trying Katz deli I had to try this place & I was not disappointed. Great service, great price & amazing sandwich. Would definitely recommendView more
Great Jewish deli with delicious smoked meat sandwiches. You will leave feeling full! The lines for the sit-down restaurant can be huge, so if you don't feel like waiting there's a separate take away section with a much faster line. Also, make sure you bring cash!View more
The famed Deli that Celine Dion part owned! We tasted the smoked meat, it is tender & juicy, not too salty which is suitable for Asians like me (Singaporean) & best of all, the price is around CAD14 which is very very reasonable for it's size. One of the places that I will probably come back if I got the chance to do so! Oh, we were lucky that there was no queue when we reached the place around 11am, your mileage may varies.View more
Good smoked meat sandwiches in an old school Hebrew deli setting, with super tight seating. Fun traditional experience with good food. Worth a visit to this very popular place.View more
Long queue to get in, but well worth it! The food was amazing & the atmosphere & service reminded me of a NYC deli. Definitely worth a visit.View more
I'd heard a lot about Schwartz's Deli before visiting & it didn't disappoint. The smoked meat was deliciously melt in the mouth! A top tier sandwich!View more
