Great & friendly service! Thanks for the scone. Will be back for sure.
A hidden gem in the NDG area with everything homemade in-house with a large variety of tea to choose from. Their scone & short bread is really good indeed. Remember to call for reservations in advance.
What a gem! We had such a great experience; fantastic service, wonderful friendly staff, excellent food all prepared fresh. Homemade jams, hot fresh baked scones, exquisitely prepared desserts, we can't say enough about the place! The owner even came out to greet us & was just a pleasure to speak with as she shared her passion for the food & for our common love for musical theatre (as the played show tunes once the afternoon tea was wrapping up! 🥰). We are now officially hooked & look forward to going back soon! ♥️
Loved it! Had the whole tea service, everyone was extra kind & the food was just *chef's kiss*. We didn't feel rush to eat & leave. The scones with the choices of homemade jam is definitely a must. 100% recommend & will visit again
Visited this cozy little nook of a tea room with a couple of friends. I had called ahead to request gluten-free options for a member of our group which they were able to accommodate without any issues (she had her own personal tiered tray of GF options!). The service we received was impeccable & the staff are sweet, friendly, welcoming & hilarious : ) Personal tea faves are the Winter Spice & mint. Scones (with clotted cream) are truly delicious.
Not your usual high-tea spot. This cozy place offer a delicious aromatic variety of teas. Their scones hug your soul along with their heavenly home-made jams, caramel, cream, & more to devour with scones. Their adorable sandwiches & desserts will not only fill your appetite but your heart. I truly appreciated their warm & bubbly service. Please note they only take cash or E-transfer.
Long review ahead, but TLDR; this is a fantastic place for scones, lunch, afternoon tea, a date, a catch-up with friends, or a nice solo-date. Scones 11/10 with the best spreads & mixed teas. Photos ft Afternoon Tea with scones (new jam & plating), English breakfast tea mixed with a berry tea, & afternoon tea with yummy sandwiches & an assortment of desserts! We moved tables after a big group came, but it was fine! Long review: Absolutely LOVE this place. I've been going since 2019 & will always keep coming back. My first impression in 2019 was how warm & homey the place felt. Ciaran, the guy working the floor & the register at the time, was such a lovely presence, & always offered an extra scone after I had excitedly finished my first two haha. BEST SCONES, hands down. After the early years of the pandemic, I stopped seeing Ciaran there, & instead met Kate & Donna! I hope I'm getting the names right. Donna is a star & approached my partner & I when we were speaking, maybe a little too loudly haha, about wanting to recreate their lemon curd at home! She told us all that was in it without sharing secrets, & it was just so lovely. Again, I feel so at home with how friendly & casual the staff is :) Kate is ever lovely & brings an extra spot of brightness! I often overhear her speaking with the elderly customers, calling them by their first names, & really bringing that hospitality & personal touch. Most recently, she handled my booking through Google actually! When we got there, there was a mixup with the booking, with her knowing we had reserved, but we weren't in the system. Despite this, we did some Tetris with the tables, & it all worked out! Should have been stressful, but she made it lovely for my last litte date with my partner before I traveled to Asia for a few months without him! All in all, lovely place. Great food with a limited & rotating menu, great service, super cute interior design, jams & food available to go or for purchase, & an always fun afternoon tea session. Smoked salmon appetizer is fantastic. Mix the sweet cream & caramel, sweet cream & lemon curd, & be sure to ask for more! I preferred the peach whisky jam over the new spiced one, but the new triple berry jam is great! I'll be back when I'm back from Asia, & I'll bring my family 🥰
We reserved the tea room as a large group of ~20 people, & we were blown away with the service, quality & ambience. Firstly, we really appreciated the cozy, laid-back atmosphere. The food was delicious & filling, many of us had to bring home leftovers as we were too stuffed. The quality of the food was great too, the standouts being the freshly baked scones, phyllo cups & the mini-cheesecakes. Above all, the service was excellent. The waitstaff were lovely, congenial & attentive. For many of us, this was our first experience having afternoon tea, & I can confidently say that the Gryphon D'Or set the bar high! Would definitely go back in the future & highly recommend.
Lovely lowkey place, an absolute treasure for the neighborhood. Everything is delicious & homemade. You have to try the scones!
One of my favorite breakfast spots in the city. You must make a reservation because its tiny & usually booked on the weekends. The food is so good, they have great teas, & their high tea is a really nice treat for a special occasion. If youre going for brunch, I highly recommend the half & half (half eggs benedict, half french toast) - I always get the lemon curd & berries french toast because it is delicious. Also the staff are all super nice. They gave us some scones to go at the end of our brunch because they felt bad about another reservation needing out table, it was so kind (& delicious!). I could really gush about this place but its really such a gem of a restaurant.
My friend & I came for lunch on a weekday & loved our sconewitches (pictured) with a side of salad & soup all made fresh & in-house. There were options for both meat eaters & vegetarians, but less so for vegans, as many ingredients contained dairy. For dessert, we had bite-sized shortbread cookies, butter tarts, & carrot cake - all incredibly delicious. Our meal also came with a pot of tea which we were allowed to sample & switch, should we have felt inclined to. Thank you for the wonderful experience, we certainly plan on returning ! Note: They only accept Cash or Interac E-transfer & reservations are required as there is very limited seating.
We came here for the afternoon tea today for my friend's birthday. The service was really wonderful & the cafe is really cozy. I don't understand the few snobby reviews of the afternoon tea service. I wasn't expecting a super high end hotel tea service (though it was my first time having an afternoon tea anywhere), & that was kind of the point. It was really good value for the amount of food we received while still being accessible for our budget. On to the food...the highlights for me were the scones & the desserts. Every bite was phenomenal & we loved the assortment of different toppings for the scones. The brownies were amazing. The sandwiches & salmon & veggie cups were great too. I enjoyed every bite of food I had. They did forget to write a little happy birthday for our friend, but we were enjoying ourselves so much we didn't even notice. The waiter very cleverly asked us which scone toppings we preferred under the guise of curiosity, but they apologized for forgetting the birthday & sent each of us home with an extra scone & cookie & our respective favorite topping. Totally unexpected & unnecessary, but we really appreciated it a lot. I can't wait to come back for a date with my boyfriend (who really enjoyed the food I brought home). Thank you for a really lovely afternoon! My only suggestion would be to list the hours of the tea service online - it would have been useful to have this information beforehand.
Just perfect! Scones délicieux, service impeccable, grande générosité du personnel, atmosphère sympathique.
All I can say is I wish I had discovered this little gem years ago. So cozy & such a friendly & generous staff. As for the food, everything was perfect & so fresh. The scones were served hot with their homemade jams, creams & custards. The assortment of petit fours were absolutely delicious. I can't pick a favourite as they were all so yummy & moist. We almost cleaned out the 3-tier plate, but then were ready to burst. I'm definitely going back & you should go too.
I came here with some friends that were visiting & i truly enjoyed my experience. I like how it's small & intimate. It really gives it that homey feeling. Everything was very fresh $ tasty. Loved the fresh from the oven scones & the toppings, especially their homemade caramel, just hit the spot. Service was also great & the personnel just seems very real & genuine. I had a great first experience, I am already looking forward in coming back lol. Just make sure it's planned in advance with a reservation!!
First time & didn't know what to expect! Food was great especially their fresh baked scones with whiskey marmalade. Shared pictures are 2 portions which cost 60$ (30$ each) total. This included the tea of choice & scones which you can ask for more at no charge I believe but I could be wrong. They do have a brunch menu which is around 15$-20$ from what I saw. Nice selection of tea like the ginger peach & dragon green tea. They also have coffee & hot chocolate. I recommend to call & reserve as the place has only 5 tables from what I saw. Note that they don't have high chairs or boosters for kids. The only thing I find is that the table is small for 4 people but I believe it's because we got the table that was in a very tight spot & I had no arm room so I felt a little uncomfortable. I do want to say that the service was excellent as they took their time to explain & were checking from time to time if everything was okay.
We love this place so much we came back to Montreal just to have high tea there. We are visiting from Florida & staying in Vermont. We came to Montreal for the day & had to go back. We came here in 2018 & loved it so much so we had to come back. Crystal & Donna are so nice & helpful. & our server Murphy was very nice as well. The food is excellent & the different types of tea are so delicious! The scones here are to die for too! I love their Almond Cherry tea & their raspberry jam. Everything was so yummy! The atmosphere is very nice & quaint & beautifully decorated. We will definitely be returning if we come back to Montreal again. We hope to see you at your new garden location. Thanks for everything. Take care.
What a gem!!! An unassuming & unpretentious little place with the friendliest staff & some seriously delicious scones. The homemade condiments were very, very tasty (as in lick the spoon) & the high tea was a nice little mix of sweet & savory. They are on my list of places to visit the next time I'm in town. The lunch combo also looked good & I really appreciated that they had several vegetarian options for guests. Love this place & highly recommend it for its cozy vibes & homemade food.
Had Afternoon High Tea at Gryphon d'or. Felt relaxed & enjoyed every minute.
What a selection of tea - I had the Ginger Marmalade which was perfect. The two warm fluffy scones served with jam, cream, marmalade, caramel, butter, & lemon curd were sooo good! Then smoked salmon pinklets, cucumber & egg heart-shaped two-tone sandwiches followed by dessert - lemon squares, short bread cookies, strawberry shortcake in a shot glass, rich chocolate cheesecake .
I will definitely return to this little gem!
