WOW!
📍 Rutba, Montreal | The ultimate Indian food craving solved! 🌟
Safe to say this is one of the best Indian dining spots in the city. Here is what you need to order:
🔹 Baingan Bharta: Pure comfort food. Gentle, home-like, but elevates traditional flavors to the next level.
🔹 The Breads: The lachha paratha is beautifully flaky, & the rotis are light & fresh.
🔹 Tandoori Pomfret & Pineapple Starter: Smokey, succulent, & perfectly charred. The tandoor skills here are unmatched.
The ambiance is quite nice especially with the open air concept. The service was really good, the waitress was very patient & helped us out. The food was where is it gets a bit muddy. The portion was quite small in my opinion. We got the butter chicken & the $50 meal for two & the portion size was diabolically small (the $50 plate is left in the photo + naan) There was also barely any chicken in both curries. The chicken tikka masala was fine taste wise. I did enjoy the samosa & butter chicken but everything else was just fine.
The restaurant's ambiance is the best...no literally, the decor & the vibe is the best part of this restaurant. Food, not so much. We ordered some appetizer lasooni murg which was sold out & the server offered a replacement bhatti murg which was great but very flat because it had a lot of cream. We wanted to stay in the medium spice range since there are more flavors other than spice. We did however order the laal maas that was extremely spicy. I asked for it to be medium spicy & it really wasn't. Spiciest thing I ever ate. My stomach hurt for 2 days after. With no reward, all the food lacked salt, tartness & general cohesiveness. The server told us she would make the dish on the house if we didn't like it but proceeded to explain to me how i was wrong about the laal maas & bhatti murg. I asked for lime to cut the spice which seems to have saved the day. I understand when you have huge volumes but it was rather unbusy. However it was end of day & everyone could've been exhausted from a long day but I see no reason to revisit. I really didn't want to write this review since all other reviews from everyone seem to be so great, but this was my one off odd experience!
Update: the server got the order wrong & thats why we had the raita. We ordered the onion salad. We raised it immediately when she brought us the food. Yes the raita was on the house & I forgot to add it. We also asked for plain roti & got butter roti. Also, yes this was my honest experience.
Must try Banarsi Cutlet, mango lassi & dal makhni. The customer service was amazing & you can get food recommendations from them as well. Highly recommended.
