Our dog enjoyed his doggie menu while we got to enjoy our delicious brunch! Coffee drinks were great & I loved the cappucino art-paw. There is also a small fenced area by the parking lot, where our dog got to run around after his meal :) cannot wait to be back!View more
Disappointing Return - Poor Service
We came here a couple of months ago & loved the place-great vibe, pet-friendly, & decent food despite the higher price (well within the typical Montréal range). We were very eager to come back with the great first experience we had.
Unfortunately, our return visit was nothing like the first. Despite having a reservation, we were told to wait while our table (already empty but dirty) was prepped. No problem-we waited patiently nearby. But after 15 minutes with no update, I glanced toward the waiter (long light hair), & he responded with a look full of contempt, like a silent'What do you want now?'
Caught off guard, I polity asked what he meant & just for an update. He snapped back in French,'Ben, quoi? Qu'est-ce que tu veux?'-It was rude, & frankly quite shocking. We were politely waiting on the side, & we did not deserve that type of response in any way. When I reminded him he had asked us to wait, he just shrugged it off with no apology. It was disappointing & honestly super disrespectful.
Eventually, another staff member seated us-at the same uncleaned table. We were given a bottle of water but no glasses, & it took another 10 minutes to order. I honestly wanted to leave, but since we were sitting, I did not feel comfortable doing that. My food & coffee were underwhelming (though my partner liked his pancakes), & they forgot our dog's order until we reminded them.
The only bright spot was a new waitress who seemed kind & genuinely tried her best.
I rarely leave reviews like this, especially as someone who's worked in the service industry, but this experience was frustrating & disappointing. We won't be returning. I can very well understand a busy morning or fast paced environment…but basic respect goes a long way. No one should leave a café feeling dismissed or disrespected. Very unfortunate.
Disappointing Return Visit - Poor Service
We visited this café nearly two months ago & absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was charming, perfect for brunch with our dog, & while the food was a bit pricey, it was well within the typical Montréal range.
Unfortunately, today's visit was a completely different experience-& not in a good way.
Despite having a reservation, we were asked by a male waiter (longer, light hair) to wait on the side while our table was being prepared. That was fine. However, the table-though empty-sat uncleaned for 15 minutes while staff attended to other guests. We patiently waited nearby, but there was no acknowledgment or update. Again, we completely understood, & we were just hanging out mingling with other dogs.
I eventually made eye contact with the same waiter… kind of wondering what was happening with the table. The waiter looked at me with a mix of contempt & irritation-like a silent'What do you want now?' It was unprofessional & completely uncalled for' -not the kind of tone or attitude you'd expect in any customer-facing setting. Surprised (& with an uncomfortable smile), I simply said,'Well… we just…?' Not even letting me finish my sentence, he responded sharply,'Ben, quoi? qu'est-ce que tu veux?' It was rude, & frankly quite shocking. We were politely waiting on the side, & we did not deserve that type of response in any way.
I reminded him that he was the one who asked us to wait for our table earlier- he just said ah! OK - still no apology or explanation. It was disappointing & honestly super disrespectful.
Eventually, another staff member showed ya the table-the same still-dirty table. A bottle of water was placed on it, but no glasses. We waited another 10 minutes before anyone took our order.
The food didn't make up for the poor service. My dish & coffee were underwhelming (though my partner did enjoy his pancakes). Our dog's order was also forgotten until we reminded them.
On a positive note, the new waitress who eventually served us was kind & clearly trying her best, which we appreciated.
Sadly, this return visit left us with a bad impression. We won't be coming back. A final note to that waiter: everyone has tough days, as I've worked many years in the restaurant business, I can very well understand a busy morning or fast paced environment…& I never make reviews like this… but this behaviour today got under my skin. Basic respect goes a long way. No one should leave a café feeling dismissed or disrespected. Very unfortunate.View more
I am revoking my past 5-star reviews & praising comments for this business. The management has no care or empathy for their clients. They are money-hungry, rob you, & do not perform services that you pay for. I had a legitimate complaint & misunderstanding which the management did not care for, after using their services, having a gathering there with family & spending a lot of money there. They do not appreciate your business. I do not mind paying expensive fees for services, but I refuse not to provide feedback when the service is not supplied despite me paying for service anyway; they banned me & my family & refused to give future care to our dog due to a justified, legitimate complaint I made in which the owner of the business never contacted me after I requested to deal with the issue. If they cared about their clients & our dogs, they would have seen the potential business & care they could have offered our dog for the future, including a 5-star review I left, which they genuinely do not appreciate due to being banned after a dispute. Despite how awful the services were, they also automatically apply a 15 to 20 % tip without your consent. My dispute was over cake-cutting fees for bringing our cake for a birthday party for our guests, which we cut & paid 40$ for them to cut & serve when we did it ourselves. They also did not care or appreciate my comment about the staff receiving an automatic 20% tip when they did not deserve it; the tip did not match the services provided. We paid for the service & the tips anyhow; instead of leaving a negative review after giving a 5-star review of past good services offered, I verbally mentioned my concerns to management, which resulted in my family & well-behaved Dog being banned. They do not empathize with negative feedback or put themselves in their client's shoes. They also don't care for their staff if they are underpaying them so much that they must ensure a massive tip is charged. They do not deserve our money or our loyalty. I gave the business plenty of chances to work together & apologized to them for a misunderstanding about paying for fees ahead of time, but they refused to work together or see a client eye to eye. Do not let their future reply to this review fool you; I am just advising that they genuinely do not care & think twice before providing any negative comment, feedback, or even a suggestion. I am not saying that thief staff always provide bad services; I empathize with & appreciate them. The daycare & grooming services are indeed outstanding. However, I will not reward the owners who take advantage of clients & their staff. The cafe needs to work on its services. Go there for a meal with your dog or coffee. Still, I do not suggest using this venue as a party gathering as the staff is not equipped or trained to provide dedicated service to family gatherings that cater to your needs. The cafe staff & owners do not realize the investment clients make in their business & place of work by spending their money there.
Such a great spot!!! The food is yummy, it's pet friendly, big & clean space. They have treats & food for pets as well! Our food was delicious. The coffee was a bit small but also great.View more
Upscale restaurant where pet owners can enjoy a meal with their dogs by their side. The atmosphere is warm & inviting, making it a great spot for both humans & their furry companions. We were pleasantly surprised by how clean the place was-despite being dog-friendly, there was no trace of pet hair anywhere, including in our food. The service was a bit on the slower side, but the quality of the meal made up for it. The clientele here definitely isn't on a budget; we felt like the most broke people there with our Toyota parked among the luxury cars. We ordered two plates & one coffee, with a total bill of $57. One thing that did rub me the wrong way was that the only tip option was 18% & more which almost made me want to leave 0%, Still, it's a great spot if you're looking for a clean, pet-friendly place with good food & a bit of luxury.View more
When the mercury hits close to 40c with humidex & thunderstorms, there's no better place to spend the day with your pooch than at a pet friendly indoor café with plentiful air conditioning! You can tell the servers love furry babies of all sizes & ages while serving delicious coffee to their humans. :)View more
This was our first time here & first time at a place where our dog is the main clientele which was amazing! When we made our reservations they even asked what your pets name is. Everything is firstly catered to your dog. They bring gold water bowls for them & there are plenty of tie out clips everywhere. The menu was great so many yummy options to pick from. The sloppy dog was soo good. The espresso machine was not working well when we went but the staff gave me drip coffee on the house! Everyone was very nice. They even have food they make for the dogs in the menu. Our pug Cheech had the loaf & he loved it! the atmosphere is great & I wish we had something like this back at home in Toronto. We Will definitely come back when we visit Montreal again.View more
Very pleasantly surprised! Good food options for humans & their pets. Clean & nice cafe. Definitely recommend for pet owners. We got a bowl & grilled cheese both were tasty. The espresso machine wasn't working & the server brought complimentary drip coffee.View more
Very expensive. Coffee should he included like any other breakfast places.View more
Great, beautiful place to go to with our furry baby. Unfortunately, the waiting time to get the food is very long. It took us 40 mins to get our food & our coffee, even when we asked to get the coffee first & as soon as it was ready. We had an early reservation & we were the fourth table to get occupied. The two waiters came to take our order & to give us out our food. We paid at the cashier. The coffee & the food was delicious. .View more
We loved our experience at Ruby's Café! Great service, delicious food for humans & for your fur babies (of course!), beautiful atmosphere & decor, tasty coffee & drinks, & reasonable prices. We will be back! :)View more
We love it there! Great food, coffee & love all the dogs. Thank you so much for creating such a great place to bring fur babies.
We love coming here. We can take the whole family, baby, dogs & all, out to brunch! & it's not a boring brunch, it's an excellent brunch & top notch coffee, & something fresh & delicious for the pups :)
This time around we got the Ratatouille Poché & & it was a bit disappointing, as the food has always been great before. The Ratatouille Poché was a bit too soft as a plate; maybe the brioche could have been toasted, or maybe the Brussels leaves could have been crispy (both were raw) or maybe there could have been nuts in the dish? I don't think I will order it again, as mentioned above, everything else we've ordered has been amazing.
Thank you for having us!
Always a delight to visit Ruby Cafe. The food, coffee & service are so wonderful that I would frequent even without a dog! :)
Lively place, be prepared for barks & dogs roaming around but if you enjoy taking your pet with you for brunch it makes for a great experience. The menu is creative & fun with some innovative take on brunch classics. Coffee is also good. Overall enjoyable experience with family & dog.
Lovely place. Food was very good. Drinks were good. Great coffee. Oh & lots of puppies, mostly well behaved. What's not to like!
Ruby is the only restaurant that allows dogs in the area & for that, they get an extra star. My waitress was great so the other star is for her. Sweet & did he job. As for the rest... They took soooo long to come see us at the door. It felt like a joke. Their pricing are just way out of line. Coffee was luke warm border on cold. The food is ok but for the price, you feel like the plate is empty. So it is what it is. I wish restaurants would stop making the prices so high. I get it, the pandemic was hard but come on. 21$ for just a sandwich on a plate? How can you explain that? & if you charge this much for food, be good with your service, like amazing.
Didn't asked me for my vaccination passport. Good food & good coffee.
