About

Rok centers its culinary identity on the intensity of high-heat cooking techniques applied to premium cuts of beef and fresh aquatic catches. The kitchen utilizes specialized searing methods to lock in natural juices while developing deep, caramelized crusts on every selection. Patrons encounter a raw, rugged aesthetic where stone and fire define the core preparation process for each entrée. This establishment maintains a focus on ingredient integrity, prioritizing the bold, smoky profiles inherent to wood-fired grilling. The menu features dry-aged steaks alongside seasonal seafood, creating a cohesive interface between land-based proteins and maritime harvests. Every preparation demonstrates a commitment to precise temperature control, ensuring consistent textures across the diverse protein-heavy lineup. The environment reflects this minimalist, elemental approach to modern preparation, stripping away unnecessary embellishments to emphasize the primary flavors of grilled charcoal-seared ingredients.

Review Summary

Rok offers a unique and memorable dining experience centered around cooking high-quality meats, seafood, and fish on hot volcanic stones, allowing guests to customize their meal to their exact preference. The concept is widely praised for being fun, interactive, and sophisticated, with many diners highlighting the tender, flavorful ingredients and the impressive wine selection. Service is consistently described as professional, friendly, and attentive, contributing to an atmosphere that is both chic and cozy. While some note that the pricing is premium, the overall consensus is that the high quality of food, the engaging cooking method, and the warm, welcoming environment make it a standout destination for a special meal.

First of all if you didn't know, as it isn't mentioned clearly on the resort website, this place is a cook it yourself restaurant. They bring you a hot stone & you have to cook your own food. Because of this, the restaurant atmosphere is terrible. It's very smoky because there is no ventilation for this type of experience. It's very smelly as people all around are cooking their meals non stop. We left smelling so bad of smoke & meat. The experience was not great at all. The service at the restaurant was absolutely awful. The waitress had conversations with other guests while taking our order. Instead of telling the other guest to wait a moment she turned around to talk to him. In the middle of us talking to the her to give her our order she left to get us water whilst we were literally telling her our drink order. When she came back with water, she forgot the drink all together. Then she left to put the water jug away & still did not come back with the drink instead asked us again what we wanted to drink. When the food came by a different waiter, he explained the process well. We didn't see our waitress again for a while & didn't get refills on our water at all. She asked our dessert order & didn't write it down but brought the wrong desserts after making us wait a while for them. Mind you we were just 2 people so it wasn't a complicated order to remember. We then waited over 30 more minutes for the right dessert to come. The crazy stupid part was that the 2 desserts we ordered were ones that were previously prepared. In the sense that they were both cold & previously plated even & you can tell because the decoration on the plate was hardened & cold as well. So there was absolutely no reason to have waited this long for dessert. The food was overall good tasting. We had the octopus appetizer & filet mignon steak. My partner has the manhattan steak & this one wasn't as good. The dessert was very nice tasting. We had the chocolate moose & crème brule, but keep in mind the brulé was not fired on spot of ordered & was hard & cold.

The atmosphere was very nice & the service was great but the food was not, for the price. The plate had no spices to season the meat. No oil or butter allowed on the rock not even pepper. We ordered the share plate of filet mignon, deer, rack of lamb & pork chop which was presented very poorly hard to tell what part of the filet mignon it was. We were told how to cook the meat & we were told to cook the meat in bite sized pieces. We had to cut the raw meat with the same utensils we ate the meat with which is ok I thought for red meat but wasn't sure about the pork. Vegetables were nothing special. My wife had a glass of wine which was great, crab cake was good the octopus was ok but overcooked. So two entrees a glass of wine I had only water & the share plate which was 135$ crème brûler was great but 18$ Total bill with tip 275$ we would never pay that price for that meal again. The rest of our stay & the breakfast was great. The Rok not again.
