🍽? Food:
⭐ Rating (1-5): 5
Notes (flavor, freshness, temperature, presentation):
The food was exceptional & easily the highlight of the evening. The tofu practically melted in your mouth & was some of the best I've had in years. The Hed Nam Tok (mushroom salad) was beautifully presented, packed with flavor, & is an absolute must-order. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, & the flavors really stood out. They also have an extensive wine selection with something for every palate.
👤 Service:
⭐ Rating (1-5): 4
Notes (speed, friendliness, accuracy):
We had reservations but did have to wait a little longer than expected to be seated. While we waited, we enjoyed a drink outside, which made the extra wait much more enjoyable. Once we were seated, the food arrived promptly after we ordered. During the meal, a bottle of wine was accidentally spilled while our plates were being set down. The staff handled it professionally by immediately replacing the plate & even brought us another wine to try, which was a thoughtful touch. Everyone we interacted with was warm, friendly, attentive, & made us feel well taken care of throughout the evening.
🌿 Atmosphere:
⭐ Rating (1-5): 4
Notes (cleanliness, decor, noise level, comfort):
The restaurant is tucked into a charming location with a cozy, intimate feel. The space is fairly compact, so you'll be seated close to neighboring tables. While it may feel a bit tight, it also adds to the restaurant's charm. It was clean, the lighting was warm & moody, & the noise level was moderate, making it easy to carry on a conversation throughout dinner.
⭐ Overall Rating:
⭐ 4/5
Final Thoughts:
Would I return? What dish stood out?
Absolutely. The standout dishes were the tofu & the Hed Nam Tok mushroom salad. As someone who eats tofu regularly, I can confidently say it was one of the best I've had in over a decade. The shareable plates made for a wonderful meal with friends, & the excellent wine selection was an added bonus. Overall, Pichai Thai delivers outstanding food in a cozy, intimate setting, & it's a restaurant I'd happily recommend for a date night or dinner with friends.
Excellent creative Thai inspired (but not purely Thai) food. One of the best bang for the buck in a tasting menu in Montreal ($70 pp). Great, original wine list. Highly recommended. Many tastes you have not tasted before unless you are a seasoned world traveler. You will love it. Atmosphere is more'cool' than upscale, & the service is excellent. Highly recommended, can't wait to go back.
Food & service were amazing. The staff were very helpful & accommodating of a walk-in of 6 for my husband's birthday. Huge vibes, excellent wine list, a gem, can't wait to return. Thank you!
Great food as always. So many flavours. We took the tasting menu, I wasn't impressed by the amount of food for 140$, we got 5 small plates to share only. Wine is expensive too $21 (plus tax & tip), for half a glass. But the service was great & food & ambience excellent as always. Price was the 280$ for two people with one (half) glass of wine each.
Incredible Thai street food style restaurant in Montreal. Came here on the recommendation of a friend - it's a bit out of the way if you are staying in old town or downtown - but easy to get to with the metro & worth the journey.
Had a variety of dishes - Laab Ped (duck ) was a surprising favorite. Amazing natural wine list with a great by the glass selection.
Ambiance is a bit hectic but fun - definitely a bit of a hidden gem for a tourist but highly recommended!
Whenever I have anyone in town & want to impress I bring them here! This place is like if a very chic bottle of funky wine had a sabbatical year in Thailand. All the dishes are bursting with flavour, snd the atmosphere is intimate & cozy. The servers are also ++ pleasant & a fun time. I've spent my last two birthdays here with no regrets. Get the fermented pork belly & whatever else they have on special, you won't regret it!
Hands down best restaurant in Montreal. Wine list can't be beat. Service is warm & knowledgeable every time. An absolute must in Montreal.
Amazing wine list. Almost unbelievable it's that big. Food is stunning. Every dish
We had a wonderful experience here. The food was absolutely delicious, & the wine selection was great. Our waiter was incredibly helpful & guided us to a fantastic bottle of wine & perfectly chosen dishes. Excellent service & atmosphere - we will definitely recommend this place & come back again.
Everything about this restaurant was exceptional, from the food to the vibes to the service. We had:
- Beef tartare (seasoned perfectly & served with sticky rice & endives to make little wraps)
- Papaya salad (so fresh & exactly what you would expect)
- Tom Yum soup, which was one of the specials (high quality, imported seafood all cooked to tender perfection in a savoury broth that warmed us to the core)
- Tiramisu (the Thai tea flavour really shone through & it was delicious, but a tad on the sweet side. Loved the addition of coconut chips on top which added texture).
My only minor issue was the quantity of cilantro on everything, though I know this is a personal preference. The soup was also served in a vessel that was very cool (central flame to keep it warm), but felt a bit impractical for serving the soup since the ladle barely fit inside it.
There was a lovely selection of natural wines to complement the meal.
Overall, really nice ambiance & great flavours, you can tell a lot of love goes into these dishes. Would definitely return!
