Restaurant Makoto Montreal Restaurant: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
JapaneseKoreanBBQAsianFusionSushiBrunch
Le Makoto is a restaurant that offers variety. The menu has a little of everything, traditional Korean and Japanese favorites. The food is tasty and affordable!

Start with an original cocktail, they are really fun! You can then order the most delicious and comforting spicy pork soup and an amazing fish tempura. The Deung Gal bi is unforgettable, easily the most tender and juicy that you have ever tried. They use quality ingredients that are full of unique flavors. A very clean place with a good atmosphere and friendly service that is also very fast. Honestly one of the best Korean and Japanese restaurants in Montreal!

Review Summary

Makoto draws praise for its welcoming staff, quick service and cozy ambiance, with favorites like bibimbap, kimchi jjigae, tofu dishes and teokkochi earning frequent compliments. The food is often described as flavorful with generous portions and reasonable prices, and miso soup and a simple salad come with meals. Several reviewers express disappointment with menu changes, missing items such as sundubu jjigae, beef seafood udon, fried chicken udon and the salad with ginger vinaigrette, hoping for their return. Some diners find the new side dishes less appealing and the chicken breading crumbly. A number of guests hope the restaurant will reintroduce elements of the old menu while still offering new options. Delivery experiences have shown that old versions can be accessed through the restaurant's ordering options, which helps bridge dine in and takeout. Overall Makoto is seen as a reliable, affordable option with tasty dishes and friendly service, though menu revisions have divided opinion and left regulars hoping for a balance between nostalgia and new ideas.

We were excited to return to Makoto after its closure during the holidays, but we were disappointed with the menu changes as well as the presentation. We ordered the Katsu chicken & noticed that the new side dish (potatoes, Green beans, mushrooms) as well as the rice were served cold. We preferred the previous side, which consisted of a salad with a variety of vegetables & the delicious dressing that paired so well with the dumplings & rice. We also noticed that the chicken's breading was more crumbly. Overall, our experience was less satisfying than usual. We hope that the restaurant will consider bringing back elements of the previous menu, which we greatly enjoyed.

My wife & I used to be a regular customer here. We were waiting for the restaurant to be reopen. However it was total disappointment when the menu kind of changed. My go-to usual was the Fried Chicken Udon Noodles & Karaag. Both were unavailable on the new menu & Chicken katsu seem to be new style as well which didn't like. Flavor lacks & we really prefer the old menu & flavor combinations. Hope the owner takes this seriously because we would love to come back again.

This spot is amazing. Great new find. I'm not sure how other rate it lower than 4-5 stars. The portions are big, & you get a miso soup with a salad for below average price, that's unbeatable at this day & age.

The food came really fast. There's only one waiter yet he managed to serve us politely & pack the food for the other tables & take other orders or pay bill. He's very efficient.

More detail on the food: (if you're willing to read)

I haven't had a good pancake like that in awhile. Not too much better & just the right amount of crispy with veggies. It wasn't too overcooked like some place & oily.

The Katsu had more batter but still very crispy. But this is my preference bc I don't like batter & carbs, I can go protein all day.

The karage has good amount of meat. A bit on the firmer side than the juicy soft but maybe it's the chicken breast rather than other parts of the chicken.

The salad entré has great flavor with olives, tomatoes & greens. The miso was also great. I usually don't like the grainy dense texture but it didn't bother me & wasn't salty like some places.

This is my first time trying the Okonomiyaki & it was amazing. It was filling. I wished it had more protein but again this is just me. There's good amount of sauce & full of veggies. Can't go wrong! I loved it, I was so full after that even though I shouldn't be eating like that on my cut.

Sorry for not taking picture before devouring it! 😅

Seafood pancake was tasty & a generous portion but was mostly vegetables with not as much keeping it together. Takoyaki were nice & soft. Bibimpab was typical. My friend enjoyed her Katsu chicken.

Delicious food that proves there is love in cooking. Fresh chicken, shrimp, & beef. I loved the softness of the rice, & the crispy mess of each of the dishes. Definitely order katsu when you come here!

From the moment we stepped into Restaurant Makoto, we were greeted by the warm ambiance that promised a memorable dining experience. The starters set the stage for the culinary delights that followed. The Pajeon was a crispy, savory pancake that was a perfect blend of flavors & textures, while the Takoyaki was a delightful treat, with its tender octopus filling encased in a light & fluffy batter. The main course was a generous display of the restaurant's commitment to both quality & quantity. The Chicken Katsu was a standout, with its perfectly crispy exterior & succulent interior, accompanied by a hearty portion of steamed rice, fresh vegetables, & two delectable gyozas. But the star of the evening was undoubtedly the Chicken Okonomiyaki. This Japanese savory pancake was not only huge in size but also in flavor. Each bite was a mix of tender chicken & a rich, complex array of seasonings that made it extremely flavorful. In conclusion, Restaurant Makoto in Montreal is a gem that offers an authentic taste of Japanese cuisine. The dishes we tried were not only delicious but also presented with care, making our dining experience truly exceptional. We left with our appetites fully satisfied & our taste buds tantalized, eagerly anticipating our next visit.
